BOOM! It was done. Terrorists had destroyed a major Brotherhood Chapter House in the city of Edessa. It was night when it happened. Hundreds dead, many of them Knight Brothers. The Brotherhood response was fast. Within minutes of the bombing, Grandmaster Siadhal authorized a declaration. Knights would now hunt down terrorists around the globe. But they had to start with Edessa. Brotherhood Intelligence had failed. Terrorism had not generally been a problem in Edessa, but it only takes one extremist group to surface, and if unmonitored, do terrible damage. Brotherhood Intelligence immediately went to work to make up for its failure. |

Several would-be bombers were captured and interrogated in Edessa among other cities, and the Brotherhood found itself in more than a few firefights while out investigating towns in the country. Within a week the Brotherhood had found one of the terrorist organization's compounds, and in a quick and brutal operation managed to capture or kill all within. This was quickly avenged, however, as the group had now fully mobilized behind their leader Khaatamul Anbiya al-Ghauth, and as a force began to take ground. The Brotherhood now found itself in a guerrilla war with an organized Islamic fundamentalist group. Such are the troubles in the County of Edessa. |

Gargar, Comitatus Edessanus A dark hooded figure entered a cantina brimming with men and women of all creeds of Edessa engaged in unbridled licentiousness. Sickening, he thought for a moment before thinking, but am I any different? He was here neither for the debauchery nor to stop it. He was here merely to wait. He went to the bar and spoke with a heavy Greek accent, "I'll have a White Russian," and after putting one gold florin on the bar he said, "and keep them coming." A woman took notice of him. She had dark hair and skin, and was dressed in the manner of an Armenian Christian. "So where are you from, Stranger?" The dark figure responded, "Everywhere. Nowhere. Mainly from Syria." "Ah, I used to live in Syria myself. What part?" "Damascus... it was a long time ago." "Well tell me, I have the time." "Look, I'd rather not. I'm not here for that." His White Russian came. "How about you have this instead?" He pushed the White Russian over to the comely woman and then yelled at the bartender, "Another, please!" The woman took the drink, "Thank you, Stranger. My, so your the mysterious type I've been looking for?" "Not interested." "But why?" She showed some leg. "Don't you find me pleasing?" She reached for his chest only for her wrist to be grabbed. "I'm. Not. Interested." He quickly let her go, and she stomped off, "Asshole!" He then was finally able to begin enjoying his White Russian, which he sipped through a straw. Then another woman came. Goddamnit he thought. But this one had a serious look in her eyes. "A man wishes to speak with you in the back." "Tell him I'm busy." "He insists that you come now." She put a Colt 1911 to his back. He chuckled. "Alright. Alright, I'll oblige his request." He was led to the back room, where a man swaddled in black clothes was sitting on the floor drinking coffee, with a black cloth covering his face and head. "Why do you come here, Knight?" "To get some answers." "Brotherhood are not welcome in this establishment." "I'm not Brotherhood." "Then what are you?" The Stranger paused before adopted a tone that would strike dread into many steadfast men, "You worst nightmare..." Immediately revolvers seemed to appear in his hands, and immediately the two guards and woman behind him seemed to drop to the floor dead, all with holes through the eyes. And as quickly as he had killed them, he had drawn a longsword and put it to the Arab's throat. "Information. Now." "B-b-but, I don't know what you want!!!" "Yes you do. Give me what I want, or your head gets used for polo." "NO! NOT THAT! ANYTHING BUT THAT!" "One." "Please sir, I beg you!" "Two." "I have wives and children!" "Three." The Arabs head left his shoulders in a split-second. More guards came too late, finding only his headless body and no trace of the Stranger. ----- On a completely unrelated note, several men were witnessed playing polo with an unidentified man's head later that day. ----- The Brotherhood released a public statement denying any involvement in the incident in Gargar. The blamed the actions on a yet to be named vigilante. Many, however, believed him to be a rogue knight. None knew the truth of the matter. |

Edessan Brotherhood Headquarters "Report." "Terrorism has decreased significantly in the region, Grand Marshal. It is mostly do to our efforts in finding caches and tightening security; however, there have been several disappearances of suspected terrorist leaders. Many have later turned up dead. The others have not been seen again. We suspect this is the work of the vigilante. Many are calling him the Stranger. Others, the Black Knight." "Any reliable sightings?" "Yes, Grand Marshal. None have seen his face, however, he is known to travel in a black hooded robe. Some report seeing a helmet and armor under this robe, as well as Brotherhood technology." "Find him. Question him. Find out who he is. The Brotherhood is not mocked." "Of course, Grand Marshal." ----- Turbussel, Comitatus Edessanus The Stranger was walking through the street when something caught his eye. It was that Armenian woman again. He immediately turned around to walk the other way, but it was too late. She had already spotted him. "You!" She ran after him. Goddamnit, he thought. "You! I know you! You were in Gargar!" He continued walking, ignoring her, but she simply kept pace with him. "I heard shots, and feared the worst, but... the man you killed. He was Ramad Abdul al-Kassar. He was an evil man." The Stranger kept walking. "He has been responsible for so many deaths, especially among my own. My father..." "Your father was killed by him, in the Massacre of the Forty. I remember." "It was terrible. My sisters and I hid under tables when the shots came. Berjouri died beside me as my father tried to hold them off..." The Stranger stopped. "Wait, your father was Armen Dadekian? The Hero of Bira?" "Yes..." she gasped, "How do you know these things?" "It's a long story." "Well, I would like to hear it from the man who avenged the deaths of my kin." "I am sorry for your troubles," he said, and then he continued to walk, "but I do not have the time." "But I can help you!" He stopped and turned to face her. "What is your name?" "Siran." "I will remember you. But for now you must be patient. When the time comes, I will find you." "But..." "Goodbye Siran." The Stranger rushed off. Siran whispered, "But I never got your name." She jumped aside in horror as several Brotherhood Knights nearly trampled her. They were in hot pursuit of the Stranger. Realizing the gravity of the situation, she ran after them with all haste, hoping to help the Stranger in some way. Rounding the corner, she saw the citizens clearing the street with the Knights cornering the Stranger. She was breathless. Here was her hero, cornered by those who were supposed to protect the citizenry, but instead they themselves seemed as terrorists cornering a true guardian. The Stranger spoke, "What is your purpose?" "You are under arrest for endangering the citizens of the County of Edessa." "Endangering? Ha! I'm doing a better job alone protecting them than you lot." "Surrender yourself or pay the penalty." "I have a better idea. Let me on my way, or you yourselves will... 'pay the penalty', as you say." "Take him!" The knights moved in on the Stranger, speeding towards him on their steeds. He threw off his robes to reveal a full suit of armor and a variety of weapons, drawing a claymore from his back. He swept it under two of the horses and let out their intestines, causing their riders to be thrown, then bringing it to his back he block the attack of another knight. He came about slicing the neck of that rider open, pushing him off and taking the horse. As he looked for an exit from the melee he spotted the Armenian rushing in with a dagger in hand. He galloped toward her and lifted her up over his saddle before she could be harmed. A chase ensued, but the Stranger was able to break away, abandoning the horse and taking off into the streets with the woman over his shoulder, now unconscious... |

Siran awoke in a daze. She saw a hooded figure at a desk not far from her. The Stranger. She was in a comfortable bed, though the room itself was rather barren and dimly lit. "Stranger?" she said. The Stanger paused his actions and looked over his shoulder, "You're awake. Good." "Where am I?" "A safe place." "You're not going to... you know?" "No, of course not." "I'd be fine if you did..." "Hon, you don't even know what I look like. What's with all the come ons?" "There's more to a man than looks." "And there's more to life than sex. Look, this conversation is pointless, I've got work to do." "What kind of work?" "Nothing you should know." "Oh? Then why am I here?" "For your own protection." "Protection?" "The Brotherhood, they know who you are. They know what you were going to do. You go back out and you're a dead woman." He turned toward her, "Best you stay put until I've straightened things out." "You? Against the entire Brotherhood? Are you mad?!" "Nope. Just aware of my abilities and the problems that exist. No sense in wasting talent." "Yes, you are mad..." Sivan started screaming, "Help! Help! I've been captured by a madman! The Stranger!" The Stranger laughed. "No use. No one can hear you." She looked at the stranger with anger in her eyes. "I'm leaving." "I'm afraid I can't allow that." "Like hell you can't!" She started towards the door, but in a second she felt a prick on the back of her neck and she was out. |

Brotherhood Headquarters, Edessa "Perimeter breached! I repeat! Perimeter breached!" The Grand Marshal responded to the emergency call, "What has breached the perimeter, sergeant?" "The Black Knight, sir! He's come here! We can't stop him!" The Grand Marshal got on the base's intercom, "Everyone, this is your Grand Marshal speaking. The Stranger has come here. He has come alone. Your orders are to capture him, but kill him if you must. He must not be allowed inside the citadel!" Knights and sergeants scrambled to defenses about the fortress, but the Stranger was swift, avoiding gun emplacements, rendering trooper after trooper unconscious. The occasional knight would offer him sufficient enough resistance that he had no choice but to end a life, but it was something he deemed necessary. Should he fail, there would be no hope left... |

The Grand Marshal watched in horror as the Stranger burst into his office. The citadel's defenses were not able to stop him. "Who the hell are you and what do you want?" the Grand Marshal yelled. The Stranger spoke, "I am he who will set things right again. I am he who will end the corruption and lies. I am he who will end your life." "Well that doesn't really answer my question..." A bullet from the Stranger's revolver went through the Grand Marshal's right eye as he reached for his blade. The Stranger looked down at the corpse of his victim, "One down. Two to go." He then got on the intercom, "Brothers, I have an important message for all of you..." |
