Accord reached between rebel groups in Kenya Leaders of the Zolon Defense League and the Kenyan Socialist Liberation Front sign peace agreement, unite against government. On the third anniversary of the start of the Kenyan Civil War, General Benjamin Kelda of the ZDl and General Joma Kibeki of the KSLF, met in ZDL-controlled Nairobi to discuss an end to the conflict between the two factions. The accord recognizes the Zolon people, who mostly settled in Kenya a generation ago, in the aftermath of the Dominion War, as a fundamental yet distinct part of the Kenyan nation. Kenya has been locked in civil war since the uprising of Zolon nationalist forces in the south in response to the shooting of respected scholar and leader Uri Kelta by government forces. The combined ZDL and KSLF forces, which are estimated to represent about two hundred thousand soldiers, will act under a common banner, that of the newly formed Kenyan-Zolon African Revolutionary Front. Experts speculate that this may be the beginning of the end for the current government, composed mostly of the former colonial authorities of the defunct Menhadian (Scottish) Empire. “President McCormac simply does not have the resources to continue fighting a war against a united foe,” says Professor Jarl Württemberg of the University of Shanghai. “The Republic of Kenya military is overstretched and poorly-trained. A rebel march on Mombasa may be imminent.” |

Rebels in Kenya Victorious Over Government Mombassa Taken After Hours of Fierce Battle; Dylan McCormac Has Fled the Country After entering the city early this morning, the Kenyan-Zolon African Revolutionary Front has taken control of the last major government stronghold, Mombassa, our sources report. Casualties so far are unknown, though one witness of the battle has reported that, "You can't walk down the street without seeing corpses just strewn around...this is the worst bloodshed in this country since the Dominion War." President McCormac announced his resignation at approximately 12 noon. He ordered the surrender of all Republic of Kenya forces, and formally handed control of the country over to the Kenyan-Zolon African Revolutionary Front. Sources close to him have reported that he has fled the country, but his current location and destination are unknown. Fears of a massacre of surrendering pro-government forces have been somewhat assuaged by rebel General Joma Kibeki, who has decreed that the killing of prisoners of wars will be punished with summary execution. The Kenyan-Zolon African Revolutionary Front is expected to make an announcement sometime later today or tomorrow as to the composition of the transitional government. |
