Thorton and Von Falkenhayn moved from their position and around the corner, hoping to take some of the men by surprised and get their hands on a package before the last group left the docks. This did not happen however, as they were simply too late and the last truck was loaded.

"We're going to have to tail them" said Thorton, "I'll go get a car."

Von Falkenhayn waited and watched as the last of the men loaded up in their vehicles an began driving off. Thorton soon came around in a small car, the headlights off. "Where'd you find this heap?" asked Von Falkenhayn as he jumped into the passenger seat. Heavily rusty and sounding as if it might been on its last leg, it was the best Thorton could find on such short notice. "It'll get us where we need to go" he said with a smile.

Speeding off to catch up with the last truck that left the docks they tailed it through the streets, keeping a good distance so as not to raise suspicion. Thorton had tailed individuals before naturally, so it wasn't his first time to the rodeo so to speak. That being said, it was taking a good time for the guys to make it to their destination and he was beginning to worry, as he suspected Von Falkenhayn was as well, that the guys they were tailing might have spotted them. Eventually the small truck made their last turn and entered the parking deck of the Nixon Memorial Hospital. Thorton drove passed the parking deck and then rounded the corner to hit the back of the hospital.

"What do you think?" asked Thorton.

"I think we need to get in and follow that package" said Von Falkenhayn.

Thorton scanned the area and then noticed two orderlies near the back of the hospital, obviously taking a smoke break. "Follow my lead" said Thorton who got out the car. Coming up the alley towards the two Orderlies, Thorton called out to them in his heavy Russian accent.

"Comrades we seem to be lost, I wonder could you tell me where 4th street is? My friend seems to think we're just a few blocks off but its getting late and I certainly don't want to keep walking around in the dark lost."

At first the two orderlies looked at each other with an expression that read "who the fuck are these wise guys?" The bigger of the two men finally answer Thorton. "Yeah you're not far...." he said as he began to explain to Thorton and Von Falkenhayn on how to get to t4th street. By this time Thorton was next to the man and Von Falkenhayn had moved up towards the other one. With a look Von Falkenhayn recognized as soon as Thorton gave it, the two men attack the orderlies and quickly subdued them. Taking their badges and their clothes, they tied and gauge them, hiding their still unconscious bodies behind a dumpster. Suited up, Thorton used his badge to open to back door of the hospital and he an Von Falkenhayn walked in.

"Ok" said Thorton, "I got us in so where do you think these guys are storing those packages?"

"Damned if I know..." Von Falkenhayn replied, trying to adjust the arm length of the uniform he had taken. The uniform was slightly smaller than his frame comfortably allowed and Von Falkenhayn was afraid that any sudden motions with his arms or shoulders would cause the seams to break.

"Let's move. Maybe we'll get lucky and run into them." Thorton responded, taking the lead.

The two men crossed through the hospital, ever watchful for visual clues, and took care to appear as normal as possible. They greeted nurses and doctors and especially other security guards. Arriving near one end of the hospital, Thorton and Von Falkenhayn were caught off guard by sudden yelling.

Approaching the source of the noise, the two agents rounded a corner to find a security guard bleeding profusely but trying to crawl to a wall to support himself. Behind him, a man tore through the hallway and was nearly out of reach. Thorton took to the injured security guard while Von Falkenhayn went after the man. Rounding a couple of more corners, Von Falkenhayn was encouraged when he saw that he was slowly gaining, not withstanding his greater age.

The man threw down a pair of nurses who were unfortunate enough to cross his path and took a final turn in order to exit the building from the rear. Von Falkenhayn saw the man disappear out the door just as he was arriving to it and took out his pistol as a precaution. Opening the door, Von Falkenhayn paused a moment and saw the reflection of light off of a gun that was turning to shoot him from his left. Skillfully pushing the man's hand away, Von Falkenhayn quickly put three bullets in the man's chest - his blood giving his dark skin a glow under the lights that lit the rear of the hospital.

Moving the body away from sight, Von Falkenhayn estimated that he and Thorton had only a small amount of time to work before the probing of the police and security guards would uncover their fake identities. He returned inside and eventually found Thorton in one of the hallways from before.

"There has been a disturbance sir," an aide told Cassio, "Lower floors at Nixon Memorial Hospital."

"Anything we need to worry about?" Cassio asked,

"We don't know yet. Still looking into it," the aide said, "but you did say to inform you-"

"Not to worry," Cassio assured, smiling, "I'm glad you are on top of it. Keep me posted."

"Sir!"

The Battle of Tabora was like a sponge. The battlefield had now expanded to include the entire province, and the forces involved on both sides were growing. It was becoming quite the spectacle. It was also starting to gain the attention of the DCA Information Ministry, who let out a statement lauding the rebels for taking their life into their own hands.

-----------------

In Zanzibar, the ZPF government was finished forming and was soon to broadcast that the anarchic nation of Zanzibar had finally formed a national government. With no history of violence or bad feelings toward its neighbors, ZPF hoped people would recognize its independence and leave it alone. The SCORPION operatives advising them hoped differently, but would play along so long as the ZPF remained friendly to Vallisburg.

Declaration of the Zanzibar Republic

We, the Zanzibar Patriotic Front, after working tirelessly to bring warlords to justice and form institutions necessary to forming a state, courtesy of the great assistance from the Democratic Confederacy of Africa, declare the islands of Zanzibar to be a sovereign republic, and we ask the international community and Africa especially to recognize this change in status.

Zanzibar Press Statement

Zanzibar has recieved nothing but help in construction and funding, as President of Zanzibar, I am insulted for proclaiming us a proxy. We merely thanked the kind people of the DCA for their assistance. Accusing us of corruption when we haven't even been a nation for a fortnight seems to be a deliberate attempt to use US as a pawn with whatever disagreements you had with the DCA. You provided us no help or assistance when we were struggling and we are not asking you for it now, but to dare accuse us of corruption? We are now seeing why the Democratic Confederacy of Africa despises you so. You only wish to keep the Africans down! If still you will not recognize us, fine. We did fine without you up until now and we shall continue to do so, but if the international community declines because of pressure from you, then we will consider you an enemy. Either recognize us or don't get in the way of the community. Do not try us.

-Mohammed Barghash,
Interrim President of Zanzibar

Democratic Confederacy of Africa Press Statement

You have meddled in the liberation efforts of Waarland, and now you blame us when you suffer the consequences of not heeding your own people? You Europeanist swine continue to sicken us as your mind and money control over this continent continues to wane and your grip is removed by the power of the African people. The DCA has nothing to do with your insurrection, nor have you even bothered to try to provide evidence to the contrary. Believe us, if we were not busy securing Waarland and obliging the aspirations of our people and their needs, we would intervene. And we'd make no secret of it like you are accusing us of here.

"Well if they're storing the packages here, they're going to need room" said Thorton as the two agents walked swiftly through the halls and soon disappearing into an empty nurses station. Asking Von Falkenhayn to stay on the look out, Thorton began fumbling through the filing cabinets and then hacked into the computer. It took hims several minutes until at last he tapped Von Falkenhayn on the shoulder and the two men were on the move again.

"There are some storage areas in the basement level and a few on the top floor of the hospital" said Thorton. "I'd suggest we split up but I don't think we have that kind of time. More than likely the local authorities have been contacted which means we'll have cops snooping around in no time. We've got to get to the basement, check it out, and then head to the top floor. Lets just hope that the police are slow to react and won't be on the campus until after we've had time to make it upstairs."

Taking the options of the stairs so that they wouldn't get stuck on an elevator with anyone who'd be willing to ask questions, the two agents walked the two flights from the ground level to the basement area. Opening the door, Thorton remarked to his partner that the area looked like the setting of ever terrible horror flick he'd ever seen before. A bit humid from the furness that was used to destroy hazardous bio-material, a leaking pipe in the distance gave the echoing sounds of water dripping. A bit of a walk down a narrow corridor a ways from the stairs Thorton and Von Falkenhayn approached two double-door with, as Von Falkenhayn translated, had "storage" written across them. Not sure what they'd fine on the other side of the two doors, the agents drew their weapons as Thorton slowly turned the knob of one of the doors.

Slowly opening the door, Von Falkenhayn leaped in with his weapon ready. Quickly scanning the room he cleared it and Thorton moved in. with a small overhead light in the middle of the room, the two agents could see the various crates in the room. "Well, no one seems to be around" said Thorton. "Lets see what's in these crates" said Von Falkenhayn. The two agents walked over to some crates and began prying them open. Looking from crate to crate, the agents came across various medical supplies but nothing out of the ordinary. Finally, after satisfying both their curiosities, the agents figured this storage area was a dead end. Walking towards the door Thorton heard footsteps down the hallway. "Someone is coming" he said to Von Falkenhayn as both men moved out of the way of the doorway. "Think guys with our uniforms are suppose to be down here?" Thorton asked Von Falkenhayn. "Hell if I know" said Von Falkenhayn. "Stay here" Said Thorton as he put his weapon under his shirt and walked out of the storage area.

Coming out of the room and into the hallway, Thorton was met by another security guard, a rather larger man in stature that Thorton himself. "Hey what are you doing down here" said the guy to Thorton. "Needed some extra syringe in the O.R." Thorton replied with a smile as he began walked passed the man. The guard grabbed his arm as he passed him "Why did you come down here though" the man said, "why didn't a nurse?" Thorton had momentarily forgotten he was wearing the uniform of an orderly and not that of a nurse. "You know how those women are" he said finally with a smith, "too spooky down here or so they say." Sadly, the guard was apparently not buying the store and having had the time to really look at Thorton's face he could tell he'd never seen him before. "I don't think I've ever seen you before, what department are you fro..." Luckily for Thorton, Von Falkenhayn had found a rather large and blunt object from the storage room, which he used the knock the guard out. Both agents drugged the man into the room, took his pistol, radio, and handcuffs. Closing the doors, they used the handcuffs to lock the doors so that the guard couldn't get out if he ever woke up. Turning the radio down to a low volume they'd keep it close so hopefully they'd stay a step ahead of the security and any locals officials that came into the building.

The two agents moved back into the stiarway and began moving upward. "Shouldn't build hospitals so damn high" Von Falkenhayn grumbled. Thorton smiled but completely agreed, he was an elevator man himself as well. With a hike ahead of them the two agents were on their way towards the top-floor storage area of the hospital and what they hoped was their way towards the mysterious packages and more information.

Official Federation Statement

The Federation of East African Nations has monitored the situation in Tanganorium with a great deal of concern. The violence which has created instability in the region is disturbing, especially if it is indeed the result of terrorist organizations such as the Euroveraminius Union suggest. While we do not have enough information on the situation ourselves, we do offer to mediate diplomacy between the island of Zanzibar and that of the E.U. Peace must be found and fostered at all cost if Africa is to prosper.

Official C.S.A Statement

The Confederate States of America wishes to express our support of our allies in Porcu and the Euroveraminius Union. Furthermore, we support their claims against the Democratic Confederacy of Africa. A Dominion holdout state, the DCA is a threat to any peace and prosperity sought by the African people. Should the E.U require any further assistance against terrorism in Tanganorium, the C.S.A will stand by its allies to ensure their military success.

The CSA would do well to keep itself out of the affairs of the African Continent. You have enough of your own issues with the rightful people of the Americas, without inducing a war with Africa as well. Certainly with your love of slaves from Africa, we have many reasons to do so. Do not force our hand.

Statement to the EU

As you do not care to recognize the sovereign status of the Zanzibar nation, we hereby close our borders, airspace and sea lanes. As you know, without these sea lanes, Avaricum is cut off from shipping, and without our airspace, you will have to go the long way around to reach. This is your punishment for declaring us a puppet of anyone. Nothing short of recognizing out status in full, regardless of who has helped us achieve such things, will suffice in reopening them.

Tensions have escalated far more quickly than I had initially anticipated. The Democratic Confederacy of Afrika has remained relatively silent thus far, but Zanzibar's recent provocations complicate matters for EU efforts in the region. Politics here in Stockholm has become quite frustrating, beyond what the press is lead to believe, but I am confident of obtaining full support for the Wehrmacht and the EU Expeditionary Force.

I would like to speak with you in person to assess the Confederacy's disposition to supporting Porcuian and EU efforts, especially those related to military operations.

- Ulganian assistance will not be forgotten. The EU member state of Quinaranum [North-West Afrika] currently acts as the base of operations and will continue to have a major military presence, but Ulganian facilities and installations will used. Aircraft carriers of the Kriegsmarine are moving into position off of Zanzibar and will doubly act as a defense front against possible Zanzibarian aggression and an offensive base for carrier-based fighters and bombers.

We also ask that international pressure is heightened and maintained against the DCA. A conference at ICON in Toledo may be scheduled soon between the EU and the Confederate States of America, to discuss the possibility of a full war with the DCA. Ulgania will be invited to participate, once a date has been established with the Confederacy.

...

Von Falkenhayn opened the door from the stairs and exited, Thorton right behind him. Taking a moment to catch his breath, Von Falkenhayn checked the volume on his hand-held radio, allowing him and Thorton to keep an ear on the happenings throughout the hospital as reported by other security guards, before following Thorton into the main storage area of the hospital. The two agents entered slowly and carefully, making sure they weren't being followed or noticed, and began to hunt around the area.

"Do you have any idea what those packages could have contained?" Von Falkenhayn asked Thorton.

"Only a slight idea, but..." Thorton said with a pause. "I really hope it isn't what I think."

Even after half-an-hour, neither were able to find anything even remotely close to what they had seen before. Grumbling to himself, Von Falkenhayn sat down on a metal storage box and tried to think of the basics: possible motives or reasons for transporting something to a hospital. It did not take him too long to come to an uncomfortable conclusion. Just as he was about to speak, a series of shouts and cries blasted from the radio attached to his belt.

"Oh, my god! What is this?! All personnel report! We've got an outbreak of something!"

In between heavy fits of coughing and the screams of women, whom Von Falkenhayn took to be some of the nurses, the possibilities of what could have been contained in those packages were quickly narrowed down by both agents. Von Falkenhayn lowered the volume of his radio down to zero, in order to think straight and speak and listen to Thorton comfortably.

"You don't suppose that..." Von Falkenhayn whispered.

"Unfortunately, I do." Thorton said. "It's the best fit, considering what we heard those guys at the docks talking about."

"If that's the case, we need to get out of here, and fast!"

"Right. Judging by those cries over the radio, it doesn't appear that waltzing out the front doors is an option."

Von Falkenhayn stood back up and paced, eventually nearing a small window that gaze a rather good view of the city. Being eleven floors about the ground did not leave many options for the two agents. Taking note of how truly serious the situation was now, Von Falkenhayn hoped that this was the most TIM had been able to get done.

"Maybe we can figure out something by heading to the roof. In any case, we certainly can't just stand here." Thorton said.

"I've got no problem with that." Von Falkenhayn said, taking the lead by walking past Thorton and taking the stairs one more floor up.

The horror of the hospital outbreak, which both agents only had a innocently superficial idea of, was nothing compared to what they would witness soon enough when the god-forsaken red blanket of death swept through Avaricum's public transportation system. For now, both agents were only thinking to survive.

--------------------------------------------------

Coming to the roof of the building, Von Falkenhayn and Thorton exited the stairwell slowly and began scanning the roof-line. First thing both agents noticed was the emergency helicopter parked on the pad. Looking at each other, their exit strategy was agreed on without saying a word as the two agents moved slowly towards the helicopter, scanning the est of the roof making sure that the two of them were alone. Moving around the chopper, the agents inspected the aircraft to see if it was unlocked. Naturally, the aircraft was lock and after looking around one more time, Thorton took out a small tool kit and began working on the lock of the aircraft.

After picking the lock both Thorton and Von Falkenhayn hopped into the cockpit, Thorton taking the controls. "Ever flown one of these things?" Von Falkenhayn asked as he was strapping himself in. "Yeah once or twice" said Thorton with a smirk. Flipping some switches, lights began to come on across the board and the hum of the engines could be heard. With the rotor blades coming to life and the chopper ready for lift off the doors from the stairs swung open and a few security personnel and police officers came out.

"Shit" said Thorton.

"I see them" said Von Falkenhayn grabbing his gun, "lets get out of here now."

Pulling back on the control stick the helicopter began lifting off. The officers went for their weapons and began firing at the chopper as it began pulling up and off the roof. Opening his side window, Von Falkenhayn pulled his weapon out and began firing back until at last the chopper was off the roof and was pulling away from the building. Now in the sky, both agents were scanning the skyline of the city looking for a place to put down the chopper quickly given that they needed to disappear in a hurry. The red light was flashing right in Thortons face.

"Damn, must have hit the fuel line" said Thorton over the radio to Von Falkenhayn, "We're leaking bad."

Von Falkenhayn went to scanning the area again and soon pointed out a park. Thorton spotted it also and stirred the chopper into the park's location. Descending fairly quickly Thorton finally brought the chopper down, a bit harder than he'd have liked. Unstrapping themselves, both agents hopped out of the helicopter and quickly moved away from the aircraft before anyone came around and spotted them.

"Think those officer saw our faces" asked Thorton

"Its a possibility" said Von Falkenhayn, "but if that was an outbreak, being spotted may be the least of our worries."

"If they've moved to biological weapons" said Thorton, "then our job just became that much more difficult."

"Agreed" said Von Falkenhayn, "but it doesn't change the object only the time-frame. We need to get to the bottom of this yesterday."

"We need to see if this attack on the hospital have made the news yet" said Thorton as the two men walked along a sidewalk. "Not saying the media will know much, but we need to at least see if the Hospital was the only target."

Von Falkenhayn agreed and the two men soon came up to one of the main roadways that came along the park the agents were in. Hailing a taxi, the two agents hoped in and got the driver to take them to the nearest cafe. Driving only a few blocks away the two agents were dropped off at a small tea house. Ordering two drinks the agents took a seat near one of the televisions in the cafe and asked that it be turned up when a special report was coming in.

OOC: I've set up the conference here. I'll also wait to post actual military deployments or movements until the end of the conference, but you can assume that air strikes are already being made against TIM positions, Kas.

IC:

As Von Falkenhayn removed his security guard jacket and rolled up the sleeves to his white button up shirt, he politely asked for the volume of the television to be turned up slightly.

"...Reports are coming in about a possible biohazard outbreak. Details are still missing, but much of the attention seems to be around the Nixon Memorial Hospital. We'll take you there live now...

*Screen displays logo of local news station momentarily until a young woman is displayed on the screen*

"Good evening, I'm currently standing about 600 meter away from the entrance of the Nixon Memorial Hospital where numerous telephone calls were made to the police about a possible outbreak of some kind. As you can see behind me, the police have already begun to close off access to the building and I've been told that additional emergency medical personnel are en route."

"Has there been any update on what exactly this is or what is going on inside?" a newsreader from their central station asked the reporter.

"No, not at all. I've been told to keep this distance as a safety precaution, but the police are not wearing any special protective equipment. I believe they're waiting for those experts and other professionals to arrive before making any definitive statements."

*Camera suddenly departs from the young reporter in front of the hospital and brings the viewer back to the news station*

"We have some breaking news, more reports related to the events that occurred just a little bit ago at Nixon Memorial Hospital. It now appears that the public transit is affected, sections of the network reporting similar things as those individuals in the hospital. There has been no word from the police or any government agency, but the situation appears to be serious and therefore we advise all our viewers to be cautious..."

"Well this is just great..." Von Falkenhayn said, sipping on his tea. "The whole city will be a biohazard zone in no time."

"We've got to get out. Without really knowing what the hell is going on or what this really is we can't stay." Thorton replied.

"No, you're right. We've definitely got to get out of the city as fast as possible."

"Do you think we have time to run back to the hotel?"

"Eh..." Von Falkenhayn groaned. "Certainly not both of us. If you can find us a way out I can move quickly and get our necessities."

"They'll probably close down any air travel first."

"Yeah, our best bet is to get out by boat." Von Falkenhayn said, downing the rest of his tea and leaving a small tip, even though it was not necessary. "When I get back to the hotel room, I'll contact the Abwehr and update them. Hopefully, they have some place for us to crash for a bit while they get this shit taken care of."

"Isn't this the Typhoon plague though and didn't the Ulganians come up with a cure for it?" Thorton asked, following Von Falkenhayn out of the tea house.

"Uh..." Von Falkenhayn grunted. "Hopefully not too many people are wiped out before they can be helped. OK, so I'll head back for our things. I'll meet you at the southern docks. It's mostly occupied by fishermen so there shouldn't be too much trouble in commandeering a boat. I'll be there in a hour. If anything changes, I have my cellphone."

With that, Von Falkenhayn took off down the street and didn't stop running until he reached the hotel. Wiping his brow with relief when he found his hotel room key card, Von Falkenhayn hoped that Thorton wouldn't run into too much trouble down at the docks.

The walk to the docks wasn't as brief as the run towards the hotel that Von Falkenhayn had, that said Thorton made good timing getting there. On the walk over Thorton didn't see much panic in the streets although he did see an increase of officials on the streets as cars were constantly zooming down the streets, presumably in the direction of both the station and the hospital. Luckily for Thorton, he wasn't heading in either of those directions.

Finally at the docks, Thorton surveyed the area and it appear just as Von Falkenhayn believed it would be. Fishermen of every age were busying themselves on the docks, presumably just having returned from a day hopefully worthy of the costs. There was nothing that Thorton could see in the way of security aside from a small shack near one of the entrances to the docks. Naturally, Thorton found another more reasonable entrance into the docks and quickly began looking over the various boats without trying to standout like a sore thumb. A few fishermen stopped Thorton and asked who he was and Thorton simply replied in his Russian accent that he was a reporter, doing a piece of fishing industry in Africa. Not entirely sure they bought it, it really didn't matter as they soon enough left him alone and allowed him to get back to looking for a boat.

Not particularly picky on the size, color, or age of the boat, Thorton just wanted something that he could take easily and get out of the country in a hurry. Looking around he finally spotted what he believed would be an easy ticket out. Situated a bit off from the rest of the boats on the docks, in the northern area of the docks and was just perfect. Moving closer to the boat, Thorton noticed what he felt was the only person on the boat. The gentlemen looked about in his 40s, probably been in the business for years and looked like he'd just come back from a fishing trip. Moving up to the boat the man spotted Thorton as he approached and naturally looked suspicious of Thorton. Standing on the dock, Thorton greeted the man as warmly as he could with his Russian accent.

"Good evening comrade" said Thorton, "I was wondering if I could have a minute or two of your time. You see I'm writing a piece on for my Russian journal on the fishing industry here in Africa. I was wondering if I could have a moment of your time?"

The man looked Thorton over inquisitively. "Have any identification on you?" he asked finally, in his best but broken English.

"But of course comrade" said Thoton, pulling out his wallet and showing the man his ID, he was welcomed aboard his ship.

"So what is it you want to know" said the man.

"Well, how long have you been in the business?" asked Thorton as he pulled out a small notepad and pencil.

The man proceeded to go on about how his father actually was the first to get into the business. While appearing to look at the man and then down at his notepad while he spoke, Thorton looked over the man's shoulder and at the area they were in. He needed to find an opportunity to get rid of the man and while that didn't necessarily mean killing him Thorton would do what he needed to. After the man finished, Thorton smiled and continued with the questioning. Eventually, he asked about the operation of the ship itself and by his time the man had warmed up enough to Thorton that he took him to the helm of the ship and began explaining the controls.

It was a this moment that Thorton decided to act and he found the perfect opportunity to do so. He notice a wrench on a table just to the side of them and as the man's back was turned, Thorton took up the wrench and hit the man, knocking him out. Checking his pulse, he was still alive and would probably just end up waking with a terrible headache and nothing seriously wrong. Looking around, he appeared to be alone in this area of the dock and quietly carried the man's body off the boat and placed him behind some crates. Getting back on the boat, Thorton fired the engines, took up the lines, and casted off from the dock. After coming out of the docks, Thorton proceeded towards the southern end of the docks itself.

"Ok Von Falkenhayn" Thorton said to himself, "You better get here soon..."

OOC- Falkenhayn NRE. :P

IC-

By now the government outside of Avaricum was relegated to the coast of Lake Victoria and the city of Dodoma, the second largest after Avaricum. The TIM had taken over the rest. This would cause further problems to the logistics of the Wehrmacht coming in...that is if they got through the anti-Porcu blockade caused by their seperate conflict with Zanzibar.

"Work is the curse of the drinking classes."

Making his way to their shared hotel room, Von Falkenhayn quickly went around the room and gathered only the most important and expensive equipment he and Thorton and brought along with them. Shifting through various suitcases and bags of one kind or another, Von Falkenhayn soon was able to secure everything he wanted to inside two medium-sized suitcases. Fortunately, they were still small enough to be somewhat discrete when carried around. Turning on his direct connection with the Abwehr in Stockholm, Von Falkenhayn relayed all that he and Thorton had seen.

"Dear god...Are you sure?" came the reply from Chief of the Abwehr Colonel General Maxinius Decius Merinius.

"Mostly. Thorton and I are leaving though. With the situation unfolding as it is here, there's no way that we'd stay."

"That's understandable. I assume the police have begun to shut down all the usual avenues of transportation?"

"We should have a boat secured here soon; however, we have no rendezvous point."

The General, Von Falkenhayn and Thorton's only direct contact in the Abwehr and the one who personally wrote the updates and notifications that the President would read, thought for a moment. He mentioned that two aircarriers were already en route and expected to rest offshore sometime in the next few hours.

"Can you order a receptive welcome for us?" Von Falkenhayn asked with a smile.

"I'll make sure that they're on the lookout for you two."

With that, Von Falkenhayn turned off and packed up the last of his equipment, looking around the room once more to make sure he did not forget anything. Suddenly, there came a noise from just outside the room - someone was trying to force their way inside by manipulating the door lock!

Von Falkenhayn opened the window in their room and peered out, taking note of his room's position relative to the rest of the hotel and, especially, the ground. Just as he noticed a set of metallic stairs located beside the room directly to his left that nearly descended to the ground, the door to his room was forced open and a series of cries in Arabic could be heard. Von Falkenhayn whipped around and drew his trusty firearm, falling to one knee and unloading on the men who were pushing their way inside.

With incredible skill, Von Falkenhayn killed the two men holding assault rifles and then focused his attention on the one other unlucky soul who had burst into his room uninvited. He had no doubt that it was TIM and with three of his attackers down, there was an unsettling moment of silence. He estimated that there were another two or three men just outside his room, taking refuge behind the walls. Without wasting another moment, Von Falkenhayn turned and grabbed the two suitcases and quickly tossed them onto the staircase that was attached to back face of the hotel through the window of his room. The sound of the two suitcases crashing onto the staircase was overcome by the sound of the terrorists unloading their weapons at Von Falkenhayn.

The Porcuian agent was grazed by a couple of bullets and took one in the arm, specifically on the lateral part of his upper bicep. That was the most his enemies could manage and he expertly silenced each one but for the last, having emptied his magazine a second before. The TIM insurgent, out of ammunition as well, takes out a long knife and charges forward. Von Falkenhayn stands and makes a split-second judgment before dodging the sharp blade of the knife and landing a powerful punch on the insurgent's jaw. Dropping the knife, the terrorist drops to the floor and shifts slowly, the blow having jolted him quite a bit. Von Falkenhayn grabs the knife the terrorist dropped and promptly slits his throat. Turning to the window once more, Von Falkenhayn assesses his injuries for a moment before carefully stepping out onto the windowsill and jumping over to the metallic staircase. He coolly collects the two suitcases and descends as far as he can, jumping the last bit of the way into the street. From there he quickly disappears into an alley and proceeds to join up with Thorton.

...

Von Falkenhayn checks his watch and curses his luck. If those damn TIM fighters had not shown up, he wouldn't have had to take time to fight them off and subsequently wouldn't have had to stay on the backstreets in order to avoid a potential confrontation. His blood-stained shirt did give him away a bit, after all. He had kept Thorton waiting for the better part of thirty minutes and finally noticed him at the far end of one of the docks. He took out his cellphone and dialed his comrade.

"Yeah, it's me. Apologies, but I ran into a few old friends...I'm coming, just stay where you are."

Von Falkenhayn hung up the phone and picked up the two suitcases, moving as nonchalantly as possible out from behind a shed and onto the main strip that ran alongside the length of the dock. He managed to get two-thirds of the way before his gut wrenched in his stomach and a terrible feeling ran along his spine. Von Falkenhayn was only able to take a few more steps before he collapsed.

...

"It seems like the disease hasn't full turned on yet..." a naval medical officer said with a slight hint of optimism. "He's showing only a few symptoms, but I don't think that will last long."

"What are his options?" Thorton replied from behind a closed room, his voice being transmitted by a small intercom. "What are my options?"

"Fortunately, you haven't shown any sign of having caught it, but you must understand that we have to keep you isolated until we are sure. As for Major Von Falkenhayn, he will require some sort of treatment soon, but we do not have anything for him on board. The Kriegsmarine has, however, sent notifications to Ulgania. Hopefully, there is something they can do for him."

"Sir, the hospital was infiltrated!" an aide yelped as soon as he got the message. Cassio turned his head toward him,

"Did it affect the operation?" he asked, thoughtfully.

"We had to move up the timetable, and we've lost a few men...we also lost the intruders," the aide said. Cassio shook his head,

"As long as we didn't fail our mission, anything can be tolerated. The train station op was successful in the meantime, just as planned," Cassio replied, "The city will now feel the wrath of the plague. And soon Avaricum will be dead and Dar-es-Salaam shall be born anew."

"What do we do now?"

"Tell the Hospital team to leave and head back to the docks. There is word out that the enemy is calling for reinforcements. We do not know how much or what time precisely, but we do know that it is soon. We must be ready to cause a ruckus on the docks," Cassio ordered. The aide saluted in compliance.

"And tell the train station team split up and take their positions throughout the city. It is almost time," he added. The aide saluted again.

----------------

The newly organized Zanzibar Navy, a detachment of the DCA's fleet that had been handed over to Zanzibar as part of the lend-lease program, continued their blockade, but they knew that soon the enemy would try to do more than just run the line. They prepared for the worst.

----------------

TIM positions were being bombed all over Tanganorium, halting the advance and leaving the government still in control of Dodoma, the lake coast, and Avaricum. With control of the air, they could keep the rebels at bay so long as they didn't get any significant anti-air ability or an air force of their own.

SCORPION units imbedded among the TIM were beginning to realise this too.

The first of the Wehrmacht reinforcements, predictably ignoring the unrecognized state of Zanzibar's claims over the sea (and thus virtual blockade of Avaricum's sea lanes) and warnings to stay away, began to approach the port of Avaricum. It was a convoy of some ten troop ships with about five escorts vessels to protect it. Enough to dissuade any pirates, but not the sort of battle group one sent against a navy. It would be a mistake that would prove costly.

The lead ship in the convoy, a destroyer which led the escorts and guided the troop ships trailing behind, recieved a transmission.

"This is Zanzibar Naval Command. You are in violation of our waters and declared Exclusive Economic Zone. You are ordered to turn back at once. Failure to comply will result in dire consequences."

The lead ship's captain had been told to expect something of the sort, but was informed that Zanzibar had no real navy to speak of apart from a few repurposed yachts and salvaged cruisers from the navy of the old Sultanate, all of which were outmoded even in their heyday.

"This is the command ship of the Porcuian Navy troop convoy. Do not interfere with our mission. You are an unrecognized entity and we will treat your vessels as pirates. Stay back."

The response was almost immediate, with the voice at the other end agitated to the point of yelling,

"We have already been recognized by other states and we WILL excercise our right to protect our waters. You will cease and desist!"

"We acknowledge that a transmission has been made. We do not heed," the Porcuian captain replied bluntly, "This is a military channel. You will cease your broadcast before we seize your ship and have you and your crew brought before an international tribunal."

By now the voice on the other end was not even trying to hide his frustration and the Porcuians could hear the man arguing in Arabic to one of the aides near him. Finally,

"This is your final warning! You will turn around now and you will go back now! Zanzibar's waters are closed to foreign traffic! This is your final warning! Comply or we will be forced to destroy you!"

The Porcuian captain didn't even bother replying. He and his crew were too busy laughing at the choice of words being used.

"'Destroyed?'" he repeated to his crew to great effect. Once the laughter had subsided, the captain spoke again, "Nevermind them lads, we'll be-"

He never got to finish his sentence however as suddenly the collision alarm, radar alert siren, and the electronic alert siren had gone off all at once.

"What?" he said to himself in confusion, "What is going on?"

The radar officer yelled at the captain to get to his station,

"We have incoming from all sides!" he exclaimed. The captain, keeping his cool, began demanding information,

"What are we dealing with?"

"No idea! They seem to be missiles, but I can't tell where they came from!"

The captain turned to the sonar officer sitting beside the radar officer,

"What is setting off the collision alarm?"

"We have an unknown submarine in the area sir," he said as he listened intently and tried to drown out his neighbor's panic, "We might have trouble."

"And what has us locked?-"

This time he was interrupted by the ship shuddering. The salvo of rockets that had been detected earlier had hit not only the lead ship, but all the other ships of the convoy as well. There must have been over a thousand rockets in the air to get that kind of spread, the captain thought. The damage by the rockets was mild to the destroyer and somewhat more damaging to the upper works of the nearest troopship. The captain couldn't yet tell how the damage was on the rest of the convoy.

"BATTLESTATIONS!" he managed to yell before heading back to the radar officer,

"Where the hell are they coming from?!" the captain barked, "And why haven't we shot back?!"

"I can't triangulate the pos-"

Again the ship shuddered, this time, the captain could tell, from something below. The submarine had also made its move.

When the captain got up again, he instinctively turned to look at the rest of the convoy from the window. His mouth dropped.

The nearest troop ship was now broken in half, with the broken ends disappeared under the surface and the bow and aft up in the air at the same time, slowly sinking. Men were suddenly in the water, screaming for help. They had good reason: These waters were shark-infested...

Looking around, he saw another escort, a frigate, lying lazily to its side, heavily damaged but still in the fight. A second troop ship was floating perfeclty, but whose top deck was now aflame. From his vantage point, the captain could not see the other vessels quite yet.

"They're sending another salvo!" the radar officer yelped.

"RELEASE COUNTERMEASURES!" The captain screamed, "Helmsman! There are men in the water! Turn this vessel around and go into rescue mode!"

"We can't move sir!" the Helmsman replied in a panic, "I just got word from engineering that the torpedo attack or whatever it was that it us below has wiped out the crankshaft! We have no thrust!"

"I want a status report on our defenses! No nonsense! Can we still fight?!" the captain called out to the First Officer.

"We've lost propulsion, torpedo systems, steering is at 75%, weapons systems above water are at 85%, hull damage is at 65%. We've lost three troop ships and another three are heavily damaged. Of our escort fleet, we've lost one outright to the torpedo attack, another is out of commission. Overall, I say we have enough to withstand one more attack, but after that we're totally sitting ducks."

"Send transmission to Stockholm. Tell them the intelligence is wrong! If this is Zanzibar's doing, then its cerainly not from a group of yachts!"

"Yes sir!"

But then, as though on cue, the radar officer stated that a third salvo was being launched and that they didn't have enough countermeasures to stop it. Before the captain could order his crew with the new information in mind however, there was another great shudder as torpedos slammed into the warship. Then another shudder, much more powerful, occured even before the first had finished...the enemy had hit the magazines, which was now cooking off all its ammunition at once. The captain didn't even have to ask for a damage report...a successful hit to the magazines was effectively code for "the ship is finished." Still, he did it anyway,

"DAMAGE REPORT?!"

"No steering, no propulsion or auxillaries! Armor damage is extensive, and we've lost weapon systems up top."

"Can we still float?"

"At the moment sir."

"The other ships?"

"Of the two remaining troop ships that had been undamaged from the first wave, one is now listing to the side and the other has made the decision to flee and send for help. We lost another escort."

"At this rate, we'll cease to be a fighting force before we even reach Avaricum!"

"What do you want to do?"

"Send an SOS, then call for the others to abandon ship.

The battle continued like this for another hour. An SOS had been sent, but before any of the ships in the convoy could bother rescuing their fallen bretheren in the water or actually make an escape, another salvo, this time consisting of large caliber shells rather than the rockets of before, slammed into the midsection of the destroyer below the line.

They were sinking.

Three hours later, there were only bodies and debris that remained of the escort fleet.

OOC- Been awhile since I've detailed a naval battle. Hope y'all liked it.

Oh and bump. :P

OOC: I apologize if there's any confusion, but I'm going to be making a slight change in nomenclature. The big difference is that I'll be switching to English in referring to my military (though IC-wise it'll have changed to Latin). To match with my news reports, I'll be changing the name to "The Porcu Self-Defense Forces." The name 'Wehrmacht' already refers to 'Defense Forces', so there won't be much change there. In short, Wehrmacht = PSDF or SDF for short. In specifically referring to a particular branch, 'Ground Force', 'Airforce', and 'Navy' will be used. More here. Again, sorry for any confusion.

IC:

Despite there being no intelligence as to the true nature or perpetrator of the assault against the naval convoy, all available aircraft on two aircraft carriers some distance away were scrambled and instructed to destroy any naval elements belonging to Zanzibar. Flying to the very edges of their possible ranges, the carrier-borne aircraft gave the small number of units hell more out of anger and fits of rage than out of calculated responses. What managed to get caught within their range was completely destroyed, though it did little to even out the damage that was sustained by the Porcuian Navy.

Intelligence was scrambling back in Stockholm, but nothing came up. The nature of the attack simply did not fit with the capabilities of Zanzibar. It did not take long for the opinion to catch on that it was not Zanzibar who was behind the attack, but the DCA. Rather than discard all the intelligence the Abwehr had obtained on the small nation to Tanganorium's east, SDF Supreme Command decided to credit the Democratic Confederacy of Africa with the attack. However, it that were actually true, the SDF would not be enough to properly counter the threat.

Until the Abwehr's top intelligence team was back on the ground in Tanganorium and until President Viriminus had wrapped up his meeting with the Confederates and Ulgania, the Supreme Command could do very little beyond withdrawing all units beyond the line Zanzibar had drawn. The only units that stayed relatively near were the two aircraft carriers and a number of supporting vessels.

...

"How are you feeling today?" one of the ship's medical officers asked Thorton.

"Alright, I guess."

"Any pain or discomfort?"

"No. How's Von Falkenhayn?"

"He's stable for the time being, but there's no telling how long things will continue that way."

Cautiously, the medical officers had been working to establish a proper clean environment and quarantine area for the Abwehr agent. He was weak, but conscious and could only manage to keep a little bit of food down. He was disheartened each time he was visited by a doctor in an elaborate space-like suit, but he would feel even worse if the disease spread around the ship because of him. Therefore, he complied with every request and did whatever he could to assist the medical officers.

From the small bits of news the doctors would pass onto him from the television, it seemed that Avaricum had descended into a true hell, with people dying left and right. He hoped the same fate did not await.
