OOC: I've been meaning to ask, is the Court open to permanent diplomats? Russia would love to send an official representative to the High Kings court as a permanent liaison between the Irish King and the Russian Tsar. |

OOC: Most definitely. I suppose that should be more the point of the court. It gives everyone the chance to have a direct line to the High King without the need to necessarily make a new thread. |

I, Impire Aodh Mór Ó Néill, do give permission to the Russian Emperor to send whomever he wishes to my court, and indeed I will gladly welcome Count Nikolai Ottovich von Essen as the Russian Empire's permanent representative to Ireland so long as it be his will. -Aodh Mór Ó Néill, Impire na hÉireann |

Lord Thomas Damascene-Dalassenos, Duke of Petra, arrived at the Court of the High King. He sought to speak with the Irish monarch on the Basileus' behalf. The subject matter was the current trouble in the northern seas. |

Aodh Mór Ó Néill received the Duke of Petra immediately as there were no other appointments at the time. When the Duke entered the great hall, Aodh Mór Ó Néill got up from his throne to shake his hand. "Greetings, Lord Thomas! How are you this day? I don't believe I have yet had the honor of having a Roman guest in my court!" |

"I am splendid, Your Majesty," Thomas answered, "My Lord the Emperor sends his greetings. He is filled with regret that he has not yet made this journey himself, but he is currently consumed with preparations for the Prince of Antioch's wedding. I am pleased to be here, for your island is beautiful, and I too am sorry that I have not visited your court sooner." |

Aodh smiled, "Ah, well that is all well and good. So, what have you come to discuss? The problems my Ireland is having with the AGM no doubt?" |

"Indeed," Lord Damascene-Dalassenos replied, "You discern well, Your Majesty. My master is concerned about the consequences of another outbreak of European hostilities. While I have no intention of telling you how to do your job, would you be willing to tell us how this war is supposed to fit into Ireland's long term interests?" |

"It shows the world that the Irish Empire is not willing to tolerate upstarts challenging its authority. It also keep this from becoming a potentially larger conflict. By Ireland striking directly against the AGM, they will be crippled before serious effort can be built against the Confederacy. I, for one, do not want to see another large war started over something so trivial. Condemning slavery is one thing, but if we let this situation run awry, we shall see new power blocs form, one on the side of the Confederacy, and one on the side of the AGM. Unless they destroy each other, this is not to our benefit. "Please take my word on this, I will end this war before it goes out of control. Ireland will suffer a little that the world may be spared an even greater suffering." |

"Very well," Lord Damascene-Dalassenos responded, "But recall that there are already power blocs in the world. The Confederacy is at the center of one, alongside its perennial associate, the Pyraneean Union. I need not remind you that the Unionists are no friends of your nor of my master's. It was the emperor's hope that the reckless Moffs might, by isolating the Confederacy, indirectly weaken the Union." |

Count Nikolai Ottovich von Essen had heard that a representative from Constantinople had come to Ireland. A permanent representative to the Irish court from Moscow, the Count could guess why the Emperor had sent a diplomat to Ireland but was still nevertheless curious when he heard the news. Having come to the court to see for himself, Count Essen stopped an aid. "Tell me, is the court closed or can all representative enter to sit in on the current meeting?" |

The aid responded, "The court is open to all representatives and the Irish nobility, as well as commoners if there is space. I believe you have a reserved seat in the court, Count Nikolai. You are welcome to enter, and even request to be heard on the issue." ----- Aodh responded, "Ah... I hope I have not displeased the Emperor with my actions." Aodh paused, considering what to say. "It is my thinking that if we should make peace with our enemies, and instead befriend them, then perhaps we should establish a more lasting peace. Was it the Emperor's thinking that we should wait out this war, and strike when our enemies were weakened? Should we really consider inflicting such a lasting war on the Earth?" |

"Your Majesty," Thomas replied, "The Emperor's thinking was only that it is better to have weaker enemies than stronger ones and these 'Moffs' were furthering our cause by isolating the Confederacy. But we know not what connections these 'Moffs' have in international politics. Does Your Majesty see them as a threat to be contained?" With due deference to the Irish monarch, Lord Damascene-Dalassenos also took the time to greet the Russian representative, and to brief him on the current discussion. Entering the hall the Count took his time to greet the Duke of Petra. "His humbleness the Tsar expresses his well-wishes to your master, his imperial majesty, the King of King, the Emperor of the Roman Empire" said Count Essen as he shook Lord Damascene-Dalassenos hand. "He has expressed to his own court that the day should come soon when he can travel to Constantinople and speak with his glorious imperial majesty on matters most important to both nations." The two men paused only slightly as the Duke of Petra informed the Count on his reasons for being sent by Constantinople to Ireland. It was as the Count guessed and he personally could understand why the Emperor would be so concerned. Taking his seat within the court, Count Essen expressed his apologies to the Irish High King for his interruptions. "Your majesty, please accept my apologies for interrupting. If I may so add, Russia quite recently extended an olive-branch of sorts to the Moffs. A representative of Moscow remains in their care and it was our intent to see where they truly stood. Certainly even Constantinople must worry that these Moffs are little more the Dominion pretenders to the throne. His majesty the Tsar, is certainly troubled over this New Order politics that the Moffs speak of but don't feel its a derivative of Dominionism. They are totalitarians at best, which Moscow's yet to decide whether or not that's a bad thing." Continuing before either of the other two could speak, Count Essen wanted to make sure he expressed Moscow's immediate concerns with a war so close to home. "While I assure you Moscow will defend its ally of Ireland, I must express his majesty's concern at the proximity of the Moff's territory to that of the Teutonic Knights. Bane of the Irish if memory serves, we fear that the Genesisian scourge could use Irish military movements in the Baltic as a reason for war. This would be quite unfortunate as they presumably not only threat Ireland again but also Russia." |

"Put simply, it is my opinion that these Moffs are trouble. It would be wise to investigate their workings as deeply as possible. You could say I am testing them. But my main concern is thus: While I detest slavery, what kind of fools denounce a major world power and everyone that possibly trades with it? I'm telling you, there is something more to this than a simple wish to rid the world of slavery. The Moffs have an agenda. It would be best if our empires work together to find out this agenda. I can assure you, however, that this is not a total war that Ireland wages. We do not wage such wars. The Irish Imperial Navy will put the Authority in its place and end this war in a timely manner." |
