I've been going through my closet space and decided that I wanted to get rid of my old roleplaying books, so I've begun the tedious process of gathering them up and catalouging them. I had a pretty huge collection and so far have 17 books together, all 3.0 or 3.5 edition D&D books, with a few old Star Wars roleplaying game (pre-Saga edition) thrown in. Anyone know the best way to sell them (I've never sold stuff online before, so I'm not sure where I'll get the best prices/assurance that I won't get cheated) or know anyone who would be interested in buying part of a pretty substantial collection?

Well there is always EBay. Or the Amazon Marketplace.

Those are the first two things I can think of. You may also want to try on D&D or general roleplaying forums (like RPG.net for example) to see if anyone wants them. Though going with a more established selling site might provide you with appropriate protections, so that might be the better idea. Plus, on sites like Amazon or EBay, you can see if others are selling the same books, and what prices they are selling their copies for, which can allow you go gauge what price you should sell for.

This. E-bay. You can set a minimum, and if it isn't met, you don't sell.

I'd offer to make a bid for them, but I think the bulk of my D&D days are behind me :shy:

Prices are what prices are...you probably won't get more than 25% of the original sticker price of the books. Even 25% is quite optimistic. On the issue of cheating, on an established book selling site such as Amazon you as the seller will always get paid in full before you ship out the book, so it's impossible for you as the seller to get cheated out of payment. It is the buyer who is at risk for non-shipment of the product, but that pretty much never happens...internet transacters tend to be very, very faithful. I often use Half.com to buy/sell used books...I've bought and sold probably 200 books on that site with no problems at all.

I wouldn't call those old D&D books. 2nd edition and older is old, and worth something. 3rd edition and later is common, and hence not worth much. Unless I'm mistaken and people are silly enough to pay high prices for them.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the lurkiest of them all?
I might actually be interested in some of the 3.5 books. Do you have a list?

Just about every board game / P&P game store that I've been in only offers 4e stuff. There might be a collection of used stuff from older releases, but that's usually 90% 3.5, 5% 3e, with the other 5% being a smattering of everything else.

If they're in decent condition, try going to a comic book shop with them if you know they buy back old editions. There's always a collector.

That said, I'd love to get my hands on all the 2nd edition stuff sometime. I have the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master's Guide, and a mostly intact Monstrous Compendium Volume 1. More or less, I have everything needed for an AD&D game; I'd just need to find my dice. Good luck finding anyone to play it though.

I still have my paladin's stats memorized... :P
