OOC: This is an idea I've actually wanted to do for a while now just never found the right time to do it. Basically, I've wanted to re-engineer Russia's military, specifically its policies regarding military technology. Porcu wants to have the best air force, Venice wants the mightiest navy, and I'm sure someone will come along an build the best army. I don't want that, instead I'm going to build a Russian Military based on the concept of quantity vs. quality. Basically instead of building the most advance tanks, artillery, aricraft, and ships...we'll focus on building the most easily mass-produced. Thus in comparing a Russian tank to say the most state of the art, the Russian tank will be inferrior of course but at the same time, Russia will be able to field more of our tanks and replace more of our tanks than the nation with the most advance tank. The idea first came to mind when me and ED teamed up for an RP where Russia and Elytheria co-developed the FS-1 Superiority fighter which was state-of-the-art at the time for this very reason, because it was built to be easily mass-produced and easily repairable. Thinking about the ole T-34 also helped inspire me. Anywho, Russia will be moving to create Tanks, Aircraft, and Ships that will cutt-edge in the fact that they will be more easily repairable than most as well as more easily produced then most. Thus on a scale from 1-5, with 5 being superior/sophisticate military technology and 1 being inferior technology, Russian technology will come in at a 3 or basically somewhere in the middle. Thus the point of this RP will be to try out different designs, think of weapons that may or may not be developed, and have a good time. I'm going to open the RP up to anyone who would want to get in on such a development process with the Russian companies. If you're interested PM me. Furthermore I'm going to leave this RP open for anyone who wants to spy on Russia's weapons development program. Right now Russia doesn't have any clearly defined enemies and a spy tale could help create antagonism that can be grown and used for creating more stories. I really have no set-in-stone story for this RP other than the end result being the development of new weapons. So I'm completely open to any spy tale or otherwise you might be interest in. So in short PM me and we'll get something worked out. Otherwise I suppose just sit back and enjoy.. IC: The Kremlin, Moscow... "So this was the project you were telling me about Prince Orlov" said Alexei as the two men walked down the marble floor hallway of the Grand Kremlin palace. In Alexei's hands was a brown folder labeled classified from the outside. Inside was a rather large about of paperwork that covered everything from statistical data to blueprints. Alexei looked over each piece of paper carefully before moving on to the next. "Yes your majesty" said Orlov who had for some time now been very eager to present his work to the Tsar. "This is Project: LEGION and it is my expressed opinion that it will lead Russia to military greatness." "It is certainly a bold move Prince Orlov" said Alexei. "It seems that you thought it through quite thoroughly as well. You have everything from budget lists to completion schedules but are you sure this is the right direction for the Empire?" "Oh yes your majesty and we could not begin this project at a better time. We exhausted a great deal of our military hardware during the Dominion Wars and while we still remained well stockpiled, we are certainly no where near our pre-war levels. Why continue to produce yesterday's technology when we could just as well invest that budget allocation into the development of tomorrow's weapons. Besides, as you can see from my projections near the end of the file, the Empire will be saving millions in the long run from following this new policy." "Hmmmm" said Alexei as he continued to review the data already gathered. It was certainly an impressive presentation of data and charts. The policy was something that had been talked about in military circles for sometime, especially after the development of the SF-1. Certainly if Russia could pull it off it would put them in a interesting good position military compared to other European nations. "Ok Prince Orlov" Alexei said finally, "I shall give this project the Empire's full military attention. You may begin the process at once however, understand that given our invested the Empire will be in this multi-leveled project, I will require a great level of oversight to ensure money and manpower is spent wisely. Needless to say, I will be watching this project very, very closely." "Of course your majesty, I would not have it any other way. However, I assure you the fruits of this endeavor will far out weight the cost and manpower of development. When we are complete, Russia will be a militarily industrial powerhouse!" "Of this I hope Prince Orlov, of this I hope." |

OOC: That would be good, I'll have Russia officially request such assistance. IC:
Nizhny Novgorod, Russia... "I've been told I have complete authority over this phase of LEGION" said Nikolai. "I expect complete autonomy for the time until we have a working product for his majesty's military." "Yes, yes Chief of Staff Lebedev informed me that you would be in charge of this phase and that we would give you relative autonomy during development" said Karl Kolmogorov, Director of Armaments. "Do not forget it is my job to watch over this phase of the project. A main battle tank is among his majesty's top priorities. You and your team will have your space but do not forget, Volkov has been given a great deal of money to develop these new armaments for the Russia Empire and I intend to see that our investments are sound." "Very well" said Nikolai, "just understand that progress takes time." With that Director Kolmogorov shook Nikolai's hand and then walked off towards the hanger door. Volkov Dynamic Defense Industries is once of the largest defense companies in the Russian Empire. For many years following the reemergence of the Empire the company held a monopoly on government defense contracts. While no longer the only power defense company in the country, its long history with the Russian Imperial Military continued to help the company win some of the biggest contracts given out. Nikolai von Benckendorff was, as his name suggested, a Baltic German by ancestry. His family was one of the few that had lasted in the Estonian during the time of the Soviet Union. His family survive by assuming a more Russian surname but, with the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, the family changed it back. Unlike the Soviets, the Russian Empire saw the potential of the Baltic German people and this foresight was paying off. Some of the finest engineers were Baltic Germans and Nikolai was a fine example. A short man, he was in his late 40s and was considered by many in his field to be a brilliant designer. Tanks he consider to be his specialty as he'd always admired the brutality and symbolism of power that the beasts represented. When Volkov won the contract for designing a main battle tank in accordance to the specifications outline in Project: LEGION's overall objectives, Nikolai caught wind of the contract specifications and saw the great challenge an opportunity that came with it. Due to his reputation he was a natural choice to lead the development team. Luckily for the Empire, Volkov had already been working on a design for a Tank that almost met LEGION's overall objectives. Since the success of the SF-1 project, Volkov had invested heavily in designs that were meant for fast and easy production as well as repair. Thus Nikolai and the team had only to test a working prototype and make the necessary modifications. The V-90 was an impressive prototype by anyone's standards. The finished product was to weigh about 55 tons and its speed, produced by the Volkov Z54-B multi-fuel turbine engine, was to clock in around 40 mph. It was equipped with a 152-mm smoothbore gun capable of firing guided missiles and a secondary 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun, 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun. Its operational range was estimated at 340 mi before refueling. Today, Nikolai and his team would put the prototype through its first tests and then analyze the data they would recover. Already, a few engineers on the team speculated that they feared problems with turret rotation as well as with the engine cooling system. They would only know for sure once the the prototype was put through the proper trials but to ensure that the tank made it through the tests, the operators were instructed to go light on the tests and watch their instruments thoroughly. The hanger doors were ordered open and the engine of the V-90 was brought to life. For the first time rays of sunlight dance off the shiny hull of the tank. While the Tank was drive out of the hanger, Nikolai followed behind with a group of technicians. He took a deep breathe of the early morning air and exhaled with delight. "Today will be a good day" he exclaimed as the group continued to followed the V-90 out. |

There was not, throughout Europe, and perhaps in the world, a center of culture as bright as that of Jena. There was not, throughout Europe, a company that he loved so much innovation as the Da Vinci Corp. of Florence. So it was obvious that between Da Vinci and Jena was love at first sight. As in all marriages respecting a child was born: Professor Herbert Pazzi. Pazzi had read the interest that Russia had to build war machines, fascinated by the German technological superiority since he was a teenager and collected models of tanks and fighter, decided to accept the offer of the University. Travel to Russia to help the project that the Tsar was planting there. Herbert dreamed to built a swarm a machines as good of German ones but cheaper. He hoped that Russia will be his promised land |

OOC: I'm not engineer so excuse me if I use less-than-technical terms during this RP. I don't want to get bogged down in all that technical language either. I figured we RP a few tests and then move on and see how the whole story goes. IC: Nikolai von Benckendorff was very pleased when he received word that experts from the Holy Roman Empire had been consulted and would be joining this particular phase of LEGION. Germany was well known for its industrial superiority, especially when it came to military weapons. Had it not been for mismanagement and other things, Germany would have won both world wars, of this Nikolai was certain. A car was brought to the airport to retrieve their German guest and Nikolai made certain he was among the first to greet the man. "You must be Professor Herbert Pazzi, I am Nikolai von Benckendorff." A translator was on hand, but being a Baltic German, Nikolai knew the German tongue as well as he did the Russian one. He spoke in German to Professor Pazzi and informed the translator, in Russian, that his services were not needed. "May I say how pleased I am to have a German engineer and designer here working with us on this project. While I have no doubt the company I work for will want to take all the credit for what we develop here, I for one will certainly not under appreciate what your contribution will do for our cause. I am going to assume that you have been brief on our design of our prototype, the V-90. Her main objective is to be a formidable weapon on the battlefield, but one that Russia or any other country for that matter can mass-produce with relative ease. Perhaps not the most sophisticate machine you have worked on Professor, I feel confident it will impress you nevertheless." The two men walked across the testing ground to where the V-90 was to be parked once she finished her first test run. Like clock-work the driver brought the machine to its designated resting spot as order. Much to Niholai's fear, the first complaints to exit from the drivers mouth was the warning alarm that sounded when the cooling system began to fail. Nikolai turned to the Professor in confidential. "We have tried everything that currently comes to mind to perfect the cooling system for the engine but have thus far, had little luck. If there is anything you can suggest that we might try, any design that we have not already attempted, would be a welcomed suggestion Professor." |

Pazzi looked the drawings of the cooler, they were very good made. "What you need to build you tanks", he said to Nikolai "is semplicity". Started drawing by himself on a paper "More simple the mechanism, more simple to build it. Your V-90 shall not be a jewel, let be germans built jewels", he smailed "do you know that we are hand made tanks tracks?", he shooked his head "They are greatly made, sure, but to long and expensive to build. V-90 shall be simple, easy made...you need something like this". The drawing was very simple and the russians should work ver hard on it but, for Pazzi, was very explicative "You need mass industrial production, so if your cooled dont work perfectly is not important, if you have 1000 tanks you can accept that 1 on 10 will not work" |

OOC: If no one is up to it, I'd be willing to take the position of the country with the best Army, seeing how Switzerland is landlocked. Switzerland will spy, however. I plan to make them the leading power in covert ops, since the Swiss is limited to wars due to their neutrality. |
