I wanted to wish everyone a happy 4th of July.

In celebration, here are the full lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner:

Quote:

O! say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Hurray for fireworks! My friend and I shot off a ton of them all day. We're taking a break while he gets more and we'll shoot off the rest later. In the meantime, I'm making my own. Well, not fireworks, but a burning bag of gunpowder, when tossed in the air, works just as well, right?

That actually sounds extremely dangerous. Even by firework-standards. :|

Gunpowder, Telo, or cordite?? If you are emptying shells into the bag, you are nuts - if you are using black powder, well, you are still nuts but not quite as nuts.

Happy birthday, good ole U.S.A. Hello, old Baily Savings and Loan . . . . . oh, wait, wrong holiday!

Anyway, had fun at the Washtenaw County Republican Picnic - met the candidates and had fun putting them on the spot regarding gay issues! Lots and lots of younger voters there too - this is a good sign!

Not sure. We found a recipe online some years back for making gunpowder and buy supplies all the time to make our own, as well as several other things. I can make a mini land mine out of 2 Snapple caps.

So anyway, we shot off a ton from his roof and threw bags of gunpowder and whatever else we ended up making. We had some extra, so we just put them in a cardboard box and lit it all at once. That was fun; the smoke traveled really far down the street. And no injuries this year!

My 4th of July was fucking awesome! Literally, I helped lower and fold the flag at Fort McHenry, while my father helped raise the next to half mast. Fucking. Awesome. The fireworks show in Baltimore wasn't bad either.

My fourth was as it should be. Fireworks, bourbon, and bad decisions.

Screw you guys. Fireworks are illegal in California, and our city was too poor to put on a show this year.

It's illegal to purchase in New Jersey, but I think we're allowed to shoot them off.

Or maybe it's the other way around...

Eh, doesn't matter. My grandpa has been a respected figure in the town for 70+ years and my entire family knows every single member of the police force that grew up in this section of New Jersey. I can do a ton of things most others couldn't. I once took my airsoft rifle to the park and shot up targets I had brought and one of the officers commented on how good my aim was as he was passing by.

Times never seem to change. You Italians still have own the majority of the police force.

I think they are illegal here in Ohio too, but you wouldn't know it!

Making fireworks illegal is just plain Un-American.

...

Edit:
Most years I'm in PA for the 4th... Same story, illegal, but well worth any citation.  Actually, someone in my family who was as high up in government as anyone in any family ever gets was always the one buying them! Damn good American.

Fireworks they are illegal.... but damn if you can't find them practically everywhere. Hell whenever I needed them I went to another town near mine and viola there would be a fireworks stand. Or go a little further away and if you look hard enough an even better store!

Though my favorite part about fireworks are the warnings on them, such as the warning to not run around with the roman candle going off in your hand... oops.

I saw a picture on Google images the other day that showed this poor guy's hand when a fire cracker went off in it. His index finger has no skin or muscle on it, just glistening bone. Ugh, sends chills down my spine just thinking of it.
