You open the middle door. It opens into a long narrow corridor. The corridor is lit with florescent lights. The floor is made of a metal grating. You see only one door - at the opposite end of the corridor. |

Rhadamanthus - Achievement Unlocked: What is this? I don't even! **** You do not see "the moon". Plus it wouldn't fit in your inventory. And it's of very dubious use to you - you could only use it when you had the sun. And what would Man-Wolf say? Man-Wolf has suffered enough: and unless you know hypnosis and a bald kid, I'm not going to put him through any more misery. Edited by Nag Ehgoeg, Jun 29 2010, 04:46 PM.

Don't fancy going through the middle door into this corridor then? Fair enough. You find nothing remarkable under the table (either on the floor or on the underside of the table). Edited by Nag Ehgoeg, Jun 29 2010, 04:59 PM.

You feet clang heavily on the metal grating as you approach the door. With little fan fare, you open the door at the end of the corridor. You are in a large room. You can see: -Two large sofas, back to back, in the middle of the room. -Numerous book shelves (with books on them) to the right of the room. -Vending machines against the left wall. -Computer terminals near the far wall. -Numerous dead bodies scattered across the floor. -A cabinet on the near wall, to your left, marked "Fire". -Air vents in all four corners of the room. -A security camera mounted on the ceiling in the middle of the room. -A few scattered chairs. -A pneumatic tube just to your right of where you entered. You smell: -A faint odor of death from the bodies |

Union - Achievement Unlocked: Ghoul **** There are six bodies. Two of them are dressed like the dead rent-a-cop upstairs. The other four are in grey jump suits like... uh... well, best not to think on that one. Both guards and three of the jumpsuits are dead from having rather large holes blasted into them from some kind of high calibre gun. There is no obvious cause of death for the remaining jumpsuit, who's laying on the floor by the computers. You search the bodies. Someone has taken the guards' guns. There's a mostly intact holster you could loot from one of the corpses... if you want to be ghoulish. The gunshot jumpsuits aren't carrying anything. The "mysterious death" jumpsuit is carrying: a scrap of paper with 88224646 written on it with XYZZY scrawled underneath; a TV remote control; a blue shiny key; and something that looks like a credit card. **** You look in the vending machines: Awesome! They have all your childhood favourites: "Vanilla Flavour Carbonated Beverage"; "Lemon Flavour Rings"; "High Pressure Carbon Bubble Candy"! Wow..., hey better not mix the VFCB with the Bubble Candy, it might make your stomach blow up. There also seems to be some weird imported food. You're having a hard time working out what the imported food is: the brand names aren't very descriptive of the product. Nothing in it looks particularly nutritious (except the "Compressed Apple Bars"), but you are feeling a little hungry. There also seems to be a roll of electrical tape in one of the machines. It doesn't look tasty. **** You look at the bookshelves: There are lots and lots of books. They come in many shapes, sizes and colours. You pick up a random book to see what it's about but to your horror you discover you can't read! Wait, that's not right, you're sure you can read. These books are all written in a language you can't read. You still feel vaguely inadequate for not being able to read them. While poking around the bookshelves you discover an elevator against the wall, previously hidden from sight. There are lots of books, far too many to shake them all looking for hidden stuff. That's a good idea though. Maybe if you found some way of narrowing down the field... **** You try to access the computer terminals. Only one of them is functioning (the one closest to the jumpsuit who died of mysterious causes). It prompts you for a username and password. Edited by Nag Ehgoeg, Jul 12 2010, 02:28 PM.

Press the buttons to get the electrical tape from the vending machine. If it asks for money, throw one of the nonfunctioning computers through the glass. |

Query: Is the elevator hidden behind the bookshelves? If so, move bookshelves carefully and activate elevator. If not, activate elevator. If elevator cannot be activated, scan and organize books between readable and unreadable language, keeping an eye out for possible code. |

You push the call button on the elevator. Nothing happens. Button doesn't even light up. Damn it. All the books are written in the same language. You could probably work out what some of the titles are if you really tried, but there are literally hundreds of books here. In a pique of rock and roll, you throw a computer through the vending machine glass. A really annoying alarm starts beeping at you. You pick up the tape. Inventory - Roll of electrical tape - Grey one-piece jumpsuit -- 9mm pistol ---1 round left -- Note: XYZZY -- Note: 88224646 -- TV remote --Colour Keys ---The Red Key |

The alarm is coming from the vending machine itself. Generally most vending machines will make this noise if you break into them. You grab a Snickers bar from the smashed vending machine. As you bite into it, you realise something is wrong with it. You take a close look at the wrapper and read "Formerly known as 'Marathon'. Now containing More Nuts!" Huh. That doesn't seem to be in the slightest bit significant. You open the fire cabinet. There are many different types of fire extinguisher, and a fire axe. Deciding that the axe, which is made for opening wedged shut doors and chopping your way through if you can't pry the doors open, might work better than an extinguisher, you pick it up. You make your way back to the elevator. You set the tape down on the floor and use the back of fire axe to pry the doors apart. Even with the axe, it's hard work. The elevator cabin is on this floor. There is another dead body inside the cabin (also wearing a grey jumpsuit). The walls of the cabin look dented and scratched: it looks as if this unfortunate person was trapped inside. There's still no obvious way of activating the elevator (it doesn't seem to be receiving power). Given how exhausting it was just to open the doors, you don't fancy using the axe to try and hack your way though the floor/ceiling. You exit the elevator cabin and pick up the tape again. You look at the book shelves again. Trying to narrow down the field, eh? On the bookshelf closest to the elevator, on the top shelf, the third book from the left seems to be poking out more than the others. You set down the fire axe and take the book off the shelf. You feel vaguely disappointed that the book doesn't open up a secret door. You give the book a shake, looking for hidden stuff, a loose slip of paper falls out. You read the slip of paper, it states "Memory is the Key". Inventory Left hand - Roll of electrical tape Right Hand - Fireaxe - Grey one-piece jumpsuit -- 9mm pistol ---1 round left -- Note: Memory is the Key -- Note: XYZZY -- Note: 88224646 -- TV remote --Colour Keys ---The Red Key |

There are two buttons on the tube: "call" and "send". You imagine that "call" brings the contents from another tube here and "send" sends whatever you put in the tube into the system. There's a pile of empty cylindrical capsules that you can use to send things. You don't see an electric box. You look around the edges of the room. The computers and vending machines are plugged into wall sockets (and are receiving power). You can follow the power lines from these sockets run on the outside of the walls rather than on the inside: either this is a really cheap electrical system, or this room has seriously reinforced walls. Following the electrical work from these sockets leads you back to the door you originally entered this room from (i.e. back to the hallway with the grated floor). |

Nothing happens. Either there's nothing in the system or there's a blockage somewhere. |
