You are standing in a doorway (leading South) looking into a square room.

The door is propped open by a bench.

You can see:

A short column in the middle of the room projecting out of the floor;
A count-down timer on top of the column;
A lock-box near the Northern wall of the room;
A door leading East;
A door leading West;
A large air-vent on the Southern wall (to your left);
A light switch on the Southern wall (to your right);
And a strip of fluorescent lights on the ceiling.

You can hear:

A loud mechanical grinding coming from the central column;
Soft bleeping as the timer counts down;
And an electrical humming coming from the lights (and the room behind you).

You can taste:

Something bitter (faint).

You can smell:

Something "smoky" (faint).

You can feel:

Vibrations in the floor (mild);
Slight irritation of your eyes.

Do I see any smoke or visible fumes? Does getting on the ground doing anything about the smell, taste, and eye irritation?

There are no visible fumes. Lowering your body does not seem to have much effect, but all the effects were slight to begin with. You do not seem to be suffering any adverse effects at any height.

Time passes.

You pull the grating off the vent. There is a slip of paper in the vent, it reads "XYZZY". You pocket it.

The vent is neither circulating nor extracting air. It does not seem to be active.

Time passes.

Check how much time is on the timer. Then, try to turn it off.

Inspect the lock box.
It's locked. You need a key (or a lock-pick maybe).

It is a dull, metal lock-box, near the North wall.

Time passes.

Check how much time is on the timer. Then, try to turn it off.
The main number for the timer reads "13" followed by a decimal.

The timer doesn't seem to be counting down using any system that you're familiar with. (Even in your amnesiac state you remember seconds, minutes and hours.) Instead, the main number seems to be decreasing at the same rate that it takes you to accomplish something. Spooky.

There doesn't seem to be a way of shutting the timer off. The timer seems connected to the central pillar.

The central pillar seems to be emitting the mechanical grinding noise. You get the feeling that being here when the timer hits zero would be a bad idea.

Time passes.

Timer: 12

(Yup, definitely seems to decrease in the amount of time it takes for you to take an action. Better hurry. Wait, maybe you better take your time... uh... I'll get back to you on that.)

NRE - Achievement Unlocked: Then why the heck am I still carrying these things around?

The B key is far too big to fit in the lock box lock. (So is the A key.) You know this without even having to waste time trying it. Wouldn't be a huge leap to guess that they only fit the door you've got propped open.

Light coming from the door to the South (that leads back to Level 2);
A count down timer.

You flick the lights back on and open the door to the West.

You are in a small room. You see:

-A control panel
-A wall safe
-A dead body

The dead body is wearing a black SMRT uniform. He looks like an ACO rent-a-cop. He has a large hole in his chest - you're no doctor but the cause of death seems fairly obvious.

His uniform and "bullet proof" vest don't look like they'd fit you. Not that you want to loot the clothes of a corpse a couple of days old (or that the vest would do you much good with a gaping hole in it).

The rent-a-cop's gun looks pretty handy though. You also discover a small key on the body. Looks like it might fit the lockbox. You take both items. You are now out of pocket space.

Key in lockbox.
You open the lockbox. Inside the lockbox is a keypad like the one you used to get into this room. It is not attached to anything (it probably attaches to this side of the door). There is also a remote control for a television.

Your pockets are full. You'd have to drop something or discover a bag if you want to lug this stuff around with you. Or, you know, leave some of your useless stuff behind.

There is no obvious way of opening the safe from here. You figure it must be opened remotely. Other than that, it looks like a safe. It's mounted into the wall.

Inspect the control panel.
The control panel is marked "Vent Control". It has three settings. It is currently set to "off".

The other settings are "Extract Poison Gas" and "Circulate Fresh Oxygen".

DErop A key, B key and leave key in lockbox lock. Pick up everything in the lockbox. Go to the door propped open by the bench but stay in this room. Point TV remote at the TV and turn it on. Watch.
