Got StarCraft II shipped here today. It's an entertaining game. It's just different from the Total War and C&C style of games. It's hard to say whether it's as good as the original, or as good as any other contemporary game, but it seems unique to me, and entertaining.

It's fun for now, but how's your tolerance for being repeatedly and savagely stomped by Koreans? I feel that's what's really going to make or break this game for you in the long run.

Not so great, it would seem. Played through the multiplayer since I'm reviewing the game for my college newspaper. I barely started pumping out units, three games in a row I get bumrushed with a full force within ten minutes.

I think I'll be staying to playing with friends if I do much more multiplayer. I like the campaign mode so far, though.

Don't like RTS games, don't really care about SC2, although I hear the editor is pretty awesome.. Might buy it in 6 months or so.

And how is that not exactly like C&C?

Same damn thing happens in C&C 3 multiplayer.

Yeah I got it too, it takes a bit of adjusting. But unless you start pumping out units quickly you will get Reaper/Void Ray/Baneling rushed, and most likely destroyed.

My Win/Lose ratio is like .5 right now, but it's been getting better.

Because while C&C3 might be a passing fad, Starcraft is the official religion of Korea, as it has been for almost 13 years.

That doesn't answer my question. Seems to me its the same damn game if you can win it in the same way. I have no interest in static "strategy".

Starcraft was favored because it was seen as exceptionally balanced. And to my knowledge one cannot always win using static strategies. That may work against those without much familiarity with the game or much skill, but it certainly won't always work against proficient players. I'm no great lover of RTSs, mostly because I was never good enough at micromanaging to get anywhere, but Starcraft is certainly a game that requires a high level of strategic thought to play well.

You're actually referring to a disparity in skill level, not 'static strategy.' If one gets rushed then the solution is to build a force so as to be capable of defending against that rush. The only static strategy is the inability to defend against rushes and other contingencies.

Strategy in Starcraft isn't static. It shifted and changed continually over a decade.
