Of course! Thank you. I confuse the two all the time. Washington U was the basis for "Animal House"! |

CLEVELAND ROCKS!

I believe I stayed in a hotel in Foggy Bottom when I was in DC. Does the metro platform look like it's out of starwars? Or is that all of them? Actually I'm fairly certain it was GWU, because I remember the medical center. Real long escalator down to the platform... I remember this because it was broken. Not quite as long as the escalators by the subway stop for the Bronx Zoo. |

Some of the escalators in the northern area of the city are atrocious. If I remember correctly, Wheaton station has the second-largest escalator in the world, and the largest in the Western hemisphere, and many of the stations are of similar length. But yes, the DC metros are very unique. I like them. They're clean, fast, and efficient. |

[venting=sanely]I am growing more and more suspicious that my University is trying desperately to do everything within their power to prevent me from graduating in May. Two instances already within the span of no more than a week has brought me to this conclusion and has now put me in a very terrible mood. [/venting] |

Excuse me for saying it, but screw them. Also, remind them that as an alumni they will never get a penny more from you. Graduating should not be difficult - who's screwing with you? |

If it's over grades, things should be reasonable. If it's over money, then things get messy. If it's over bureaucracy, then depending on how ambitious you are, you could make heads roll. I got caught in a bureaucratic log jam my sophomore year. I almost got barred from being able to live on campus the following year because my financial adviser was rather incompetent. I think I managed to complain to the right people and she was fired, and my paperwork cleared right up. Then again, I think she was fired through plutocratic authority, and I think the fact that it was so simple means that non-faculty members of the college aren't in a union, which can be a little scary, but hey, I felt self-important. |

OK well I should admit I was overreacting a bit when I said they were actively working to withhold my graduation. Still, the situation is still pretty shitty and has me quite pissed. Also, its really only one situation as the first situation dealt more with the county I was to intern in (that actually got resolved). OK so here's the situation in a nutshell, I'm missing a class I should have taken (at the latest) this past semester to be allowed to intern this spring (an finish my secondary licensure studies and graduate with a license from the state to teach High School history). Now naturally this looks like mostly my problem and in retrospect (having thought about it a lot for the last 24 hours) I should not have assumed as much as I did and I might have catch this problem before the fall semester so I'd have been able to take the class. My defense however is this: When I first started the Secondary Licensure program, it was under an older format. Classes for the program were different and labeled differently, labeled EDN classes. After taking enough classes to officially apply for the actual "school of education," (which I got into), I quit the program out of frustration (an the fact that I wasn't sure I wanted to do it after all. Fastforward a year, and I decide to get back into the program however, by this time they've changed the format of the program, classes are now different and labeled SEC classes. I was told that my previous EDN classes would be wavered to account for the SEC classes I needed, so I wouldn't have to start the program from the very beginning. So I went on my merry way, taking all the other classes I needed thinking I was safe. First big obstacle I faced was the fact that the classes weren't automatically wavered and transferred. I was just told this year (which is to be my last) that I had to file the process myself, meeting with the appropriate people and what not. Ok, fine, I go meet with the appropriate person, we sit down, he LOOKS STRAIGHT AT my degree audit, looks at the classes I need for the SEC program, looks at the classes I took under the EDN program, fills out the appropriate paper work and tells me everything is peachy and I'm sent skipping to my loo out his door. Fast-forward to a few weeks later (this past Friday, although I only checked my email last night), I get a letter from an associate Dean on the education school telling me I'm missing this SEC class and don't apparently have the corresponding EDN class to replace it. I just sat down not a few weeks earlier with a man who looked STRAIGHT AT MY DEGREE AUDIT, and nothing was said to me then. NOW, I'm being told I don't have the class nor the other class to use for that class. THIS is what has me so pissed off. You would think, if the first man was doing his job properly he'd have brought up the matter himself, given he could see what classes I've taken and what I was int he process of taking this semester, PLUS the internship I intended to be in this spring. BUT no, nothing was said, I was left with the impression everything was fine and now its not. I intend to graduate this May regardless, I've made my mind up of that. So worst case scenario is this: The class I need, SEC 210 I think..is only offered in the fall and I'm not willing to wait another year to graduate. So I'll drop the licensure from my degree, pick up the two or so classes I need to finish out my political science minor (which I had dropped given I didn't have time to finish it with all the education classes I needed) and I'll graduate with a BS in History and a minor in International Relations. If I feel like it, I'll come back next year take that ONE class I need in the fall, intern spring 2012, and get my state license. Next best thing is that they allow me to intern without the class (on the basis I take it in the fall 2011), I intern, still graduate in May (again I'll just take the licensure off my degree), come back in the fall, take the class, and they send off for my license by December. Obviously the best case is that they find a way to say I took the class (or its equivalent) and I graduate with a BS in history and a license to teach. This I feel is highly unlikely but I've move it to the top of my Christmas list to Santa nevertheless  Again, if it weren't for the fact that I'd just sat down with someone about my degree not two or three weeks ago I wouldn't be so pissed because I'd see it as completely my fault for not keeping track of my requirements more closely. But not only have the made an awful mess of the whole thing having changed the program, but I also actually sat down with someone who said nothing! |

OK, I would be uber pissed too. As a matter of fact, I was. Same thing happened to me, and I dropped the Teaching Certificate from my degree in undergraduate school because they said one of my classes from another college would not transfer (this a class from THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, would not transfer to St. fucking Xavier College in Chicago). With me, however, I never went back to get the missing class, and as a result, I was never able to teach at the secondary level - so, they now let me teach college - go figure! Have you tried going back to the first guy that said everything was fine? Maybe the Dean's office missed something he saw differently? |

As of 11:32am this morning the assistant Dean is discussing it with the first Dr. to see if my side of the story is true and see what can be done. The AD is saying that there may be a possibility of me taking an online course or doing an independent study during this coming semester (along with my internship), so that everything will be fine and I can graduate in May as planned. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one! |

Good! I find that a personal touch always helps me get my way in dire straits like this! Also. I'm amused over my grades for the semester. A, A-, A-, A-, B+, B-. GPA of 3.46, just shy of the dean's list  However, my major GPA is a 3.5 now, and my overall is a 3.4 My minor GPA should be golden - A, A, A, A, A, A-, B My general requirements like bio, chem, econ, and Shakespeare the Tragedies really dragged me down over the years  |

Well having to wait all Winter Break to hear an answer, I received an email today that I do indeed have a class that I can use to substitute for my missing course. So after having to worry all Christmas long all is well and I have only to intern now so I can graduate. ^^ |

Glad to hear it. Otherwise, you would have had to go all Columbine on the school, and that might not have ended well. |

Got the official grade report in; I managed to pull off 14 Units of straight A's. Now for next semester's 18-unit schedule.... Intro to Political Science Third Semester Spanish World Literature Philosophy of Human Nature Principles of Microeconomics Comparative Religion The first two should be an absolute breeze; I'm crossing my fingers that the course loads for the rest won't be too heavy. |

I am assuming Poli-sci is a 100 level course, so, easy. Spanish is a 200 level course, so not too difficult. World Lit is a 100 level course - survey means no major works to read, so, easy. Phil of Human Nature sounds like a jock class, so, easy. Principles of Microec, survey course, easy. Comp. Rel. Another survey course, easy. Looks like 4.0 again! Congratulations on your current 4.0!! Now, don't piss off any instructors, and you'll be in great shape! |

So with the start of the new semester comes an ice storm. End result: canceled classes and an impromptu D&D session featuring an adventure written today by yours truly. Yeah... writing a one shot. Fun stuff. |
