Not gonna ask what happened to the old topic.  :wtf: As it stands I'm going to be a senior in college this year. Hopefully I can bump my GPA to a 3.8 by the time I graduate. That's best case scenario. My focus on philosophy might help that, but, hey, it's fun. RD finished law school, right? And we have a couple high schoolers kicking around? Not a clue. I'm in the frame of mind of leaving the US, either for the sake of the foreign service, or to teach English in a foreign country (like South Korea, if it still exists in a year. |

Oooo, I looked into teaching English in a foreign country, and it doesn't look all that pretty. Go get yer Master's in anything, doesn't matter, because there are no jobs out there anyway . . . or join the government and be set for life! Foreign service would be fun. |

Foreign service makes a stable family an impossibility, so be sure you want to cast that aside before going down that path. |

I don't plan to have a family until after I've found something I can lean on and stay on the same plot of land on for the majority of my life. The foreign service would just be a job with automatic insurance... Grad school is going to wait for me to get my current college loan debt under control. Either way, I'm feeling like the only meaningful thing I'm taking away from college is a strong communitarian idea that might be useful. Maybe. |

This was a turnoff for me. In any case, I'm entering University of San Diego in September. I'll be majoring in International Relations with a focus on the Hispanic World, with a minor/possible double major in Spanish. |

College educations more like college eduGAYtions. I've been in the mood for juvenile humor lately. When I was a sophomore in HS Quaon was but a babe and planes crashed into the World Trade Center. |

CLEVELAND ROCKS!

An article on the crazy costs of college... http://finance.yahoo.com/college-education/article/109701/placing-the-blame-as-students-are-buried-in-debt?mod=edu-collegeprep Who is to blame for Cortney's debt?
Really Cortney? You pay huge money to go to NYU, only to major in that? I'm not going to go on a rant, but things like this just piss me off. How can you complain if you go to school for that? What the he!! did you expect!?!? I'll stop myself now... Any thoughts on the matter, or the costs of college in general? |

Going into my....*cough*......6th and final year of College...well until I go into grad school...somewhere....at some point after graduation.....why did I go to college again? At any rate I'll have a teaching license I won't be able to use and a history degree that begs the question from most everyone I meet...."what are you going to do with that?" Maybe I should start on that Broadway musical I've always intended to write.... |

Ulg, Foriegn Service requires you to change country every four years (maximum) and you cannot reside in the USA for more than 2 years continously without being kicked out. It essentially makes a family impossible until you're done with the service, which may be your sixties if you get into it. I chose to go the military route instead, as you can at least come home ot the same place every now and then. |

Hmm, shortly after my 15th birthday Gemini 9 was launched and Gene Cernan completed the second U.S. spacewalk (2 hours, 7 minutes) ever. Lessee, 1969 to 1976 to get undergrad degree, so don't feel bad, NRE. Plus, it was a so-called "worthless" Liberal Arts degree, which was the smartest thing I ever did. |

If your wife doesn't mind not having a stable career or giving up dreams, yes. Few women nowadays want to only fit into the housewife/family role.

Two more weeks of school! Thank god! All next week will be "preparing" for the finals. I say it that way because I never prepare for finals or any test at all. I paid attention the first time around, I don't need to hear it again. I love having test reviews; it translates to a free period for me. My teachers don't usually care, unless I get to be distracting to others, because they know what my test scores are. The last week of school will be final exams. I absolutely CANNOT wait. Midterms and finals are my favorite part of the year. Its my chance to completely own everyone, teachers and students alike. I get to sit by, watching the students flip out as they go "we never learned this!", "what the hell does this mean!?", "I'm so going to fail!" and watching the teachers pull their hair out (if they have any left by this point of the year) as they try to cram the whole year's worth of knowledge into the students heads now that the kids are FINALLY paying attention. Next week will be so fun. This is the time of year that I temporarily become the most talked to person in the class. "Telo, can you help me with this? I helped you pick up your books in 7th grade when you dropped them!", "Dude, you have to help me! My parents will kill me if I fail this class!", "Telo, I'll give you $20 for your notes." And I get to say, "Should've paid attention when the teacher was talking. You all have never done anything for me, so I can now sit back and enjoy myself while I watch you all squirm in a near constant state of fear, anxiety, and mental agony." I don't even take notes so I couldn't give them any if I wanted to! In the past 5 years I have spent in this school district, I have only ever helped two people. One being my friend that had lost his notes the week before and doesn't have that great a memory to sail through like I can, and the other being the last girl who was ever nice to me for the sake of being nice. 'Course, that was 6th grade... The end of the year is awesome. |

Bad move for a man who wants a social life. Help them, Pro bono publico, it will earn you some endearment, and to a ladies you get to say "What do I get out of helping you?" (Note, do not do this in a creepy manner.) I got a bj out of a chick who I let copy my final exam. |

I wouldn't do that. I was teased, the subject of jokes, and isolated for the entire year. Now that I'm useful I should roll over and give them what they ask for? Hell no. Soon as finals end, I'd just return to my previous status as "nobody". You need to earn my trust first. If you said absolutely nothing about me or to me the entire year, I'd be more inclined to help you. I still might not, but you've a better chance. I had to work hard to hear what the teacher was saying. Understanding whats being said is a challenge when people are acting like immature children at a daycare; more so with a hearing disability. Speaking of which, the fact that I wear hearing aids was discovered in my Italian class when my teacher accidentally made a comment about how the one with hearing difficulties had the highest grade. The reaction of the class? Teasing. Jokes. Mouthing of words to imply that I'm deaf. Playing games where you get points for seeing how close you can get to me without me hearing them. And these same people want my help to learn something that was incredibly difficult for me to hear in the first place because of them, and after such torment in addition. They expect me to help them? If it weren't for the fact that all of them might fight back at once, I might've punched these people at the conclusion of their request for help. I mean, seriously? I can't even describe the frustration. |

Thanks NH  I can always count on you  Me and you both RD B)
Is it just me or is the damn school year for public education a hell of a lot longer than it use to be. Actually it has to be because when I graduated in 2005, we walked the 20th of May, the weekend after the school year officially ended. Now its June before kids here get out...I don't understand it...I know if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't be able to survive...I mean what time do kids have to go to the beach  |
