Meeting People on the Internet

I have had relative success in the past with meeting people on the internet. Particularly girls. I remember when I used to use myspace, I met a few Japanese women, which was fun, met some some girl in Florida, which was fun, and met one in St. Louis. That last one turned out to be a good friend for a couple years, but it ended badly.

Right now, I'm in regular communication with a girl in the Czech Republic.

I'm not sure exactly why I do it. Several reasons could be advanced as to why, but I think overall it's because I enjoy talking to someone different for a change. Plus, there's always the possibility that who you meet might actually turn out to be a good friend, and if you're ever in the area they can guide you about.

So, after quite a while of more or less avoiding this sort of thing, because I had felt it to be a waste of my time, I'm going to start it up again. I want to meet someone new because really, I have nothing better to do. The only girl I talk to anymore personally is hardly talkative and hardly a friend. I'm going to take a rest from Riri.

What are your opinions? Whether on this or the overall topic.

I usually find disinterest with people I meet directly on the internet when it comes to directly chatting (not everyone, but by and large this is the case). Things can just be too eclectic and my interest wanes.

Although, I usually go out of my way to be outside of my day-to-day comfort zone when I'm at conventions/conferences/anything that involves a large assortment of strangers getting together for something social (Model UN conferences and anime conventions are the two biggest examples). I have met some of the most interesting people at both, and have stayed in touch with a good deal of them over time.

Sed, I know just where you're coming from though. I'm sure you find it interesting, but I've tended to find my way just as interesting, so it's similar in a relative sense I would think.

Well, if you believe that one place, there are no girls on the Internet.

Honestly, when I refer back to my own dating life, anyone beyond a 10-mile radius from my house (which is located roughly in the middle of the City of Toronto) is just not worth the effort. Long-distance relationships are difficult to maintain, are stressful and run the risk of cheating in the long haul, imo.

Online dating has its merits though. I've met alot of local girls via online contact. Alot of them have been shit, yes, but there've been a few gems. Dating girls that are close to my inner circle, though, has always worked better.

I rarely find girls online. In WoW, my guild had 380 members, and only 4 were girls. Aside from them, I think Allessandra here on the forums is the only other girl I've met online.

Oh, and no matter how desperate you are, do NOT go to Chatroulette. Of the million people that could be online at a time, 2 will be girls, 100,00 will be guys, and the other 899,998 will be guys masturbating in front of the camera.

I already have my own proven methods. Don't go randomly searching. Myspace was always a good resource, but I think it was only good for finding underage girls (which was fine when I was underage). Hence, now I turn to the less useful facebook, which did after all get me several foreign friends, only one which I chose to keep since we communicated regularly (the Czech).

Don't get me wrong. I'm not using the internet to date. That said, I do only contact attractive females, hence I am leaving the possibility open to a potential relationship should I ever be in the area. I'm no idiot. I don't play the long distance/internet relationship game. I just plant seeds.

The main enjoyment I get out of it, after all, is the conversation. Why else would I do anything outside of RP on this forum?

I've actually met in real life people who I met online. Admittedly, that had to do with CTY, but still.

I used to have a few close online correspondences, most of them with people from here, but not so much anymore.

I have a friend that I met on WoW 3 years ago and then branched out to other games and such that we discovered we both have. He had a Cybernations account, so I joined that and the forum he frequented as well. After a while, various people pointed out that we both tended to declare our absences from whatever game or forum it was around the same time at the end of the summer. So we talked about that and found out that we both have been attending CTY at the same site together, one time in the same course even, without knowing. We decided to meet officially this past summer and realized that we had hung out with each other for several CTY sessions without knowing.

It was a very, very interesting coincidence.

Unless its Omegle  I haven't really been a sociable person outside the sphere of NS since before joining this forum. Now really the only people I talk to are you guys (and gal) and people from Cybernations. Oddly enough, I actually found someone close by who plays CN which was funny. Of course I don't play CN currently so I've lost contact with them.

The only people outside of this particular community that I interact with in any real manner are friends or friends of friends. I never really meet "new" people online.
