Map Tsar and Southern Gentleman

Now as we all may remember, well over 3 months ago a new system was put in place over the maps I control (Middle East and Europe) in order to give in a test run and see if it would work as a solution to problems we were having at the time. Well three months have come and gone an not only has this new system failed in solving the problems it was created to solve, I personally feel its only furthered these problems and caused new ones.

The "dibs" system that I unknowingly created cannot continue to go on because its just silly, ridiculous, and again doesn't solve the problem it was created to solve. Therefore instead of building a system to solve our problems, I'm reverting back to the old system (with a change or two) and placing the problem solving into your hands. Basically lets get real, the mods, admins, and mapmakers are not here to play babysitter. We're here to facilitate negotiations and encourage cooperation. That is why for hence forth, the Middle East and Europe are once again maps where requests are taken on a first come, first serve basis. If the first person who requests a piece of land for an expansion hasn't expanded in say 2 or 3 months, then they get it. If they don't meet the criteria then I'll go the next person with a request for that area. If two people are eligible and both ask for the same land, I'll ask these two individuals to work it out amongst themselves. If this turns out to be an impossible request and the two cannot find someway in cooperating for the good of the forum and fun of the game, then as mapmaker I reserve the right to deny both the requests, leaving the area open for either a third party or a new player to request it.

This is, more or less, the system that has been maintained on this forum for the past 5 years that I have been a member. It may not be the best or most perfect system out there, but historically it has proven itself to be a successful system for this community

Let me justify my actions.

I'll admit I've gotten too angry over the past few months, but the reason beyond my personal stress is quite understandable. My last major expansion was acquiring Connacht, which was at least six months ago, perhaps more. Since then I only gained Mann, because I wanted the culture, and the Shetlands, only because I was outmaneuvering Atticus who had become a supernoob. I do not use that term lightly.

Really, I've been angry because I've haven't been able to logically expand for far too long, yet others newer than me have made large gains. I suppose my current problem now lies with that there is nowhere for me to logically expand. Why should I expand into northern Germany or Scandinavia? It makes no sense.

There are those of us who don't get to expand for years. You see my former empire, but that was only because I had land in different regions. Only last year did I finally get all of India, and I've been here since 2005. I still don't have Pakistan yet and am likely never to get it so long as Scy's bot or whatever keeps his NS territories alive. In south America, my initial land was Bolivia. Look at it now...its Bolivia plus a land bridge to the Atlantic. And bear in mind I'm one of the original nations for south america. Europe too, all I have gained from my initial portion of the Netherlands is chunk of southern scandanavia, the remainder of the low countries, and Denmark. Landwise, it isn't alot.

There are other players with possibly even more profound examples than I. My point is, expansions take time. Have others gotten them perhaps a bit too early, yes. I would say so. But two wrongs don't make a right.

And what logical sense are you on about for Germany? The whole point of this being a different world from RL is that RP GIVES that logic and justification. If you want to expand that badly, you take what you can get. Otherwise, try colonizing other regions like I did.

I think the Irish were in Newfoundland, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia at on point. You could try there.

I suppose the Netherlands and Portugal were both small in size in Europe yet very large maritime empires, and for the time being that is what I am mostly limited to. That said, right now I'm being patient to see what opens up in Europe. It might be a long time, but I'd rather have an overdue logical European expansion than a colonial expansion that spreads me thin.
