I've been thinking of a better name for my nation as it stands, and given the current circumstances of the British Isles, I'll likely be changing my name from "Britain" to "North England," or "The Kingdom of England." I feel it would be a more representative name that will help to avoid some confusion.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? Pick something and stay with it. Allow it to develop. Give the country a name that won't sound odd at a change in the wind's direction.

Well, I've noted criticism of the name because my nation does not, in fact, encompass Britain. The latter name would be far more accurate, as the nation is more English than anything.

No need to be a dick about it.

I wasn't trying to be. I apologize if it came out that way.

But as to the name, pick something that isn't dependant on borders, since that changes all the time.

Nah, stick with Britain. It represents the nation's goals, and its combination of Scottish and English land. Ortherwise, just use Scotland, its original name. North England, IMO complicates more than simplifies.

Thanks for the advice. I shall remain with Britain.

Toussaint, perhaps you could be "Britain" currently, and if you ever take over the entire island you could then emphasize the name of "Great Britain"? <<That could be worked into an IC tradition of course...I don't seek to impinge on Lansdallius' claims OOC.

You could name it after one of your regions. Liverpool is within the historical borders of Lancaster, so you could call the country the Duchy of Lancaster or something.

Maybe North Britain? You know so if you ever have a great victory over the south the north can be triumphant yet again. :P

Agreed. Britain is the only logical English name for a combination of the different peoples of Britannia.

That said, if your Kingdom is almost completely made up of English, then it would make far more sense to call it the Kingdom of England, in my opinion. It's only Britain if there is more than one people involved.

Honestly, Atticus' nation could more accurately call itself Britain, being that it has the Welsh, who along with the Cornish and Bretons are the only true Briton people remaining, and the Scots, who are Gaelic, but inhabit Britannia.

Have you tried using Old English?

My Old English translator translated "Britain" to "Breten". "Great" is mære so "Great Britain" would be Mære Breten.

Or "United Kingdom" to Geānlǣht Cynerīce? Play around with the translator. Sed and Atticus have nation names in old languages, so why not a British country with a king obsessed with all things British?

Yeah, that's kinda hard to write though.

Copy and paste. Or just drop all the accent marks. Geanlaeht Cynerice still gets the message across as well as standing out.

Doesn't make sense for a kingdom that wants to be English, I figured they go with English, not an older, less English version.

I think Tou is looking for a more Modern British name. I don't think he's looking for a name like mine, Eryri Nibheis, which is a mixture of Welsh and Scottish.

EDIT: What TO said.

The Angles is the name of the ethnic group that settled England. It could be called the Kingdom of Angles, or some variation.

More modern names...

Look through this page and you'll see a handful of different names, like Britannia/Britannica, Valentia, Mercia, Brigantes, etc.
