OOC: While I wait for certain IC events to come to pass so I can continue with the Secrets of the Evangelist, I decided to have a diplomatic summit while showing off a time honored tradition of Venice. Just assume you have been invited. I am officially changing Drake Reed's name to Domenico Contarini. Please assume it has always been this way. In addition, one of the acts of the Venetian Monarchist Party was to change the title of Imperator to Doge. This happened "off-screen" since it's such a minor detail. IC: Posted Image Ascension Day, 20XX Doge Domenico Contarini, his entourage, and Archbishop Celeste Anacleto stood in San Marco's plaza along the canal. They were patiently awaiting the invited delegates arriving from the airport on the mainland for the ceremony to begin. Bissoni, small and elegant galleys, were set aside for the delegates, each crewed with Venetian volunteers and piloted by a Senator. Lo Sposalizio del Mare, a revered tradition that dated back to the original Venetian Republic, and it was rare for the city to allow foreigners to watch. The Doge's ceremonial galley, the Bucentaur, had been scrubbed clean after months of disuse. The crowd slowly swelled with citizens of the city, the poorer on land and the better off in gondoliers. Even the respected houses of Venice were present, their patriarchs in their grand bissoni. OOC: Diplomacy or whatever you plan on doing can go until Monday, when I'll post the actual ceremony. Following that, we can continue talking at the city-wide banquet that follows. |

"Hmm, where are they?" The Doge turned to an aide. "Is there a problem on the mainland?" "There are a few reports of some citizens trying to sneak motorboats into the lagoon. The Guardia della Laguna has their hands full with the pests." "But the delegates are unaffected by the ban of motorized boats in the lagoon?" "No, sir. They are merely waiting to be sure no trouble will arise." "Very well then. I apologize, I just don't want to have to start the ceremony without them." With this, the Doge returned his gaze to the canal's entrance, straining to spot the tell-tale glint of the gold plated bissoni gliding through the gentle waves. |

President Richard Nixon strained his eyes as he gazed around the beautiful scenery, the bright sun and her reflection on the Venetian waters proving difficult to counter. Venice was certainly a sight to behold this time of year and from his understanding of the ceremony about to take place Nixon the Younger was honored to represent Porcu. Despite only having a small Porcuian flag to indicate the boat as his own, the Venetians recognized the well known Porcuian's face and Nixon drew applause as he glided onward. |

Enrique Salva, tired, finished up work for the day at the consulate. A telegram arrived from the central authority in Jaca, informing him that he was expected to represent the Union in Venice. He sighed, and went to his residence hall. He awoke the next morning, refreshed, and proceeded to the disclosed location. |

OOC: I guess I'll let this go indefinitely, since no one seems to be paying attention. IC: The Doge welcomed Nixon the younger, glad that Porcu had sent such an esteemed representative. It spoke highly of their trust in Venice. However, he was a bit disappointed when the Union representative slowly ambled into the plaza. |

The Russian Empire had deep interest in Venice as a nation it'd believed investing it would be paramount in the fight against Republicanism in Europe. That is why the Tsar sent Prince Boris Ribbenzoph V, the Prime Minister of the Russian Empire to the Venetian ceremony. The Prince was told to make no secret his interest in Venice, and that was to show Russia's unanimous support for the Venetian monarchists and make no secret Russia's desire to see the Monarchy strengthened. The small Russian flag fluttered beautifully as the boat wandering slowly down the waterway, cheers from the crowd was almost deafening. Prince Ribbenzoph had heard that Porcuan and Union representatives would likely be present but this didn't not detour him from taking the hard-line the Empire demanded. |

The Doge stood on the side of the canal where the bissona docked to welcome the prince. "It is good to see you here, Prince Ribbenzoph. I was hoping to see more monarchist countries present, but thus far only a few republican representatives have shown up. If you would like, we can talk more privately following the ceremony." OOC: Feel free to talk among each other. And why are so few arriving? I'd like a good number of people present! |

Though Nixon wished to spend as much time as he could taking in the sights of Venice on such a beautiful day, he knew that his duties bound him to at least acknowledge the other representatives. Smoothly making his way over to the Union representative Enrique Salva, Nixon chatted lightly for a bit, making sure to underline Porcu's support of the Union. Soon, however, Nixon wished to visit with his Russian counterpart at these festivities. Finding a good moment to approach, Nixon's personal charm, a fortunate quality inherited from his father, disarmed the Russian Prime Minister for a moment. "Pardon me, but I do hope my Russian comrades are enjoying the local scenery as much as I am!" Before Ribbenzoph could reply, however, Nixon continued. "You are quite a prominent figure in European affairs Prince Ribbenzoph and I, at the least, wished to send my warmest regards to you personally and to your Tsar." |

Sir William-Arlington Estharus, the esteemed head of Srolonka, and in recent years a more publicly esteemed confidant of Chancellor D'Annunzio arrived in Venice. The sites were new to him, and this was technically his first official trip to anywhere in Europe that was not Srolonkan. He knew full well the chancellor's wishes for European relations, so he would be sure to act accordingly.

Prince Boris Ribbenzoph V was bare in his 30s, still a flush with youth and energy. He graciously accepted the Doge's welcome. "Russia would not have missed such an invitation, though his gracious the Tsar wished to extend his deepest regrets for not attending himself. Though we live in an era of relative peace, there are still matters of state back home which demand his attention. Still, he wishes the Venetian people to never forget that they have friends in the east. I also share your sentiments and hope more monarchies take their invitation and attend. We must stand strong as a united front against those who would seek to tear down the one form of government that truly speaks to the history of European continent." The Prince again thanked his gracious host, "I would be both honored and pleased to speak with you more privately. Russia is deeply interested in extending more formal relations with Venice and I certain enjoy the chance to speak with you more privately on this matter." Two men agreed to find each other again before the end of the festivities as the Doge certainly had other guests to welcome. Not mere moments after leaving the Doge's side, Prince Ribbenzoph was approached by the Porcuan President.
Certainly a bit take back by the bluntness of the President, the Prince had spent enough time at his father's side to keep his composure and stride though difficult situations. "Yes, yes the local scenery is something to admire and enjoy indeed as I assume my Porcuan comrades are doing" said the Prince, with a hint of insincerity in his voice. "It would seem so given the crowds that amassed following my arrival. I suppose when your nation fights as hard and as successfully as the Russian Empire did to liberate Europe from the invasion of the Dominion, your popularity rises." A shrew shot at the Porcu people by the Prince, though he cared little how the President took it. "Of course we did not do it for fame or glory, we did because it was the right and honorable thing to do. If this is what we reap for our efforts then so be it." |

Domenico Contarini welcomed all the representatives as they came. The arrival of the Roman representative, Count Iakovakis, went almost unnoticed as he quietly stepped onto the street while the others were speaking with each other. The Doge only became aware of his presence when the Count came to him shortly after he was finished thanking the Srolonkan for answering the invitation. |

Understanding when he was taking jabs and when to quit, Nixon politely bid his respects to the Russian Prime Minister again and made a 180 degree turn. In the time he spent with the Russian Prince, several new faces had arrived and, ever the energetic, young diplomat, Nixon made his way over to the various other delegates. As a matter of principle, Nixon next caught Sir William-Arlington Estharus of Srolonka and expressed his pleasure of seeing a friend among those gathered in Venice. |

Estharus had been a long time follower of Nixon, noting the friendly relations between Ulgania and Porcu, but was surprised that he was able to stay collected when he finally could meet the man in person. "It is a pleasure to meet you. The chancellor has spoken highly of you. It is good to see that our countries have been willing to remain partners, despite our splitting on republicanism and monarchy." |

"A man busy enough to give some half a world away headaches," Estharus said with a laugh. "Ever since the old ties with Zeelari were rebuilt, he's had his sights set on expanding other African frontiers, in an economic sense. Have any of the Southwest African trading rumors reached your ears at all?" |

OOC: It doesn't appear as if anyone else is showing up, so I'll move this along tomorrow. IC: Noting the silence of the Roman, Domenico made his way to Count Iakovakis. "You do not seem to be participating in the conversation, is there something I'm unaware of? If I recall correctly, both the Russians and Ulganians are your allies. After the ceremony, I have arranged a meeting with Prince Ribbenzoph. If you could, I would like to talk to you afterwards. There are a few matters I would like to discuss away from prying eyes." |

Patrick Nielsen arrived in Venice after his stay in Porcu. He was uncertain about how the change in the Venetian government would affect their nations' relations. That being said, they had incredibly amiable relations with Ireland, also a monarchy, so no reason was obvious why things could change. He also intended to discuss the Great Britain and Celtic Empire situations with the Doge if time permitted. OOC EDIT: 666th post.  Edited by Aelius, Mar 30 2010, 04:58 PM.

Having discouraged the Porcuan President from further conversation, Prince Boris Ribbenzoph V began wondering amongst the crowd until he spotted Count Iakovakis who, he was told by an aid, was the representative of the Roman Empire. Boris had never met the Count nor had he had much dealings with the Roman Empire personally. In fact, it had been years since the Russians had spoken with the Romans on diplomatic levels, especially given the Dominion Wars. Russia certainly hoped to fix that in the new era and Prince Ribbenzoph thought what better time to began talks again than now. Walking over the Count, who he now saw was having a discussion with the Doge, Prince Boris did not come close until he'd seen the two men fall silent. Seeing his chance, he walked up. "Count Iakovakis, I am Prince Boris of the Russian Court. May I say what an hour it is to meet you and may I extend the well wishes of the Russian Tsar to his graciousness, the Roman Emperor." |
