d20 Modern Game

Nag and I are thinking about starting a d20 modern game set in the NSWR world. For those of you unfamiliar, d20 Modern is very similar to Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition, but in the present or near-future, with skills and equipment to match, and no magic. First timers are very welcome,

As for plot, I remember a treasure hunt-themed RP that Kas attempted to run a few years ago. It failed, but seems like it could benefit greatly from the quantified rules that d20 offers, and would allow us to incorporate a lot of our world into the story, which I think would be really fun, as well as present some unique challenges.

EDIT: Looked for Kas' thread and was unable to find it. If anyone has a link, that'd be great.

EDIT: The search function is working! Since when? http://s3.zetaboards.com/nationstates/topic/225400/1/

EDIT: Links!

How often would be people need to play. My regular RP is kind of sporadic as it is, so I have to wonder what the expectation for me would be. But overall, it sounds like an interesting idea. Wandering our world as individuals would be fascinating, to say the least.

The RP is going to move *very* slowly. If you've ever played a game of DnD, you know how often you have to roll dice, and every roll needs to be verified as pass or fail by the GM. Although this will make RP go rather slowly, especially during combat when players have to act in turn, it also means that individual posts will be quite short and easy to write.

I've played a number of other Pen and Paper games, but not any version of D&D. I've only played D&D in computer games. And I've never played through any such game online.

But if the game is slow and posts are short and quick, as you say, I'd be interested.

I'll play. I'd like to travel around our countries. Quick thought: when we cross international borders, should the GM role switch to the owner of that nation?

Any character sheet or something along those lines to keep things streamlined and provide a guide as to your character's abilities?

Ah, yeah, I'll throw links to the System Reference Documents (SRDs) and printable character sheet into the OP. Thanks for the dice.

Kas, you want to be the GM? I know I'd rather be a player, I dunno Nag's preference.

This.

And I'd much rather play. I'll run a game after I play one.

I really don't know the system well enough. Think of it as a trial run. Steal ideas from a source book. I don't know. You'll do fine :P

I wish I had a source book to steal from. The only guy I know with one moved to Iowa. Not to mention I'm an awful DM. The system is actually pretty similar to DnD, except that guns tend to make combat shorter and make player-deaths easier. Hence, non-combat solutions are usually preferable.

Seriously, someone's gotta step up. I want this to be awesome and long-running, and if I GM it, it and you will all die of boredom in a couple days.

If I had the time, I'd not only GM it, but plot it out myself, seeing as my old Hunt thread was the inspiration. College is my bitchy mistress right now though.
