The Alexanderhaven City State, though still rebuilding from its occupation by the Dominion, was still intent on connecting its realm directly with its brother states in the Mediterranean. Thus far, this had been achieved through the Red Sea, controlled by Paradise and its navy since Alexanderhaven's founding...at least before the Dominion arrived. Since then, Paradise had, like many of the old world powers, retreated into its shell. The pirates and smaller, non-Orthodox, states had taken over the Red Sea, and did not respect the natural superiority of Alexanderhaven, as a vassal of Byzantium. In its weakness from removing itself from Gassel's iron rule, the Regent Patriarch had not acted to correct this. He couldn't. Even now, The Royal Navy was still too weak to protect the merchant marine fleet.

And so a shortcut was devised.

With the fall of Al Qalaa, the emirate that had once been the most influential of Paradise's provinces, pristine harbor territory was now vacant. Alexanderhaven intended to change that since, with a port under its control, shipments would never have to leave the Gulf, and instead would travel over land through Mesopotamia directly to the land borders of Byzantium.

And so began the expansion of the Realm of Alexanderhaven.

It is the opinion of the Roman Empire that Alexanderhaven is a bulwark of stability and justice in the Persian Gulf region, and that the expansion of the Royal City's demesne is a goal that the civilized nations should support.
