After nearly a thousand years of prosperity in Anatolia, the Turks had been displaced. First, the invasion had come from the Catholics. The Catholic European hordes had displaced the once-nomadic Turks, and send them on a great diaspora through the desert. But, the tides of time came crashing in, and sure enough the Papist invaders came crashing down. However, the Turks were not allowed to go back to their adopted homeland- for, before the Turks could make it to Istanbul, the contemptible Greeks had jumped on the opportunity to conquer the land in the name of Byzantium. In one of the greatest revenge schemes of the last millennium, the Byzantine Empire had robbed the Turks of their home. As such, the Turkish diaspora continued, and throughout the northern Arabian Desert scattered settlements of the Turkish people lived, in a reemergence of their former nomadic lifestyle. For a multitude of years, this remained the case. Millions of Turks traveled about the desert, moving from place to place, hopeful that one day the Byzantines would fall, and the homeland could be reclaimed. When that took longer than expected, one man rose to institute order. Suleiman Osman, as he was called, was a brutal man who was not of particularly large stature. He was charismatic when the need presented itself, but was generally a quieter man not apt to stand out. That said, his ambitions were great, and his second-in command was a marvelous leader, speaker, and controller of men. Ahmed Rifat was a tall, dark skinned Turk, and people flocked about him wherever he was. The two set out on a grand adventure- to reestablish Turkish unity, and rally the people to the cause of greatness. Appealing to nationalist sentiments and the universal disdain for the Byzantines and their allies, the two men won the allegiance of most of the Turkish leaders in western Iraq and along the Byzantine border. On January 22nd, 2XXX, they had enough clout to put their moves in motion. In Mosul, in front of an assembly of Turkish chiefs, the scheme was announced to the world. Suleiman Osman was declared Suleiman III. Ahmed Rifat was named a pasha (along with all the assembled chieftains), and was appointed Suleiman's Grand Vizier. The Ottoman Empire was reestablished.
