Public Response to the Venetian and Teutonic Governments

There still seems to be much confusion in regards to this matter.

First off, the Venetians have no knowledge of the workings of our country or its society. Thus, they have no right to inject such opinions.

Secondly, while we did declare the war, Welsh forces did not shed Scottish blood until they were far into our territory; the Scots drew first blood. Even more so, we made no attempts to retaliate when the Scottish launched the the initial attacks. If these actions as seen as warmongering, then a certain country needs to update its dictionary.

from: Owain Glyndŵr

I fully understand your position in this matter. The fact that you are preventing Venice from intervening is gift far greater than what could be expected. I am overjoyed to see that there is at least one other country who acknowledges the greed and faults within the Venetians. We have done nothing but argue with them, and yet why do they insist on destroying us? It must be as you said; the greed of the Venetians greatly exceed that of their own morals and honor.

As for your offer, I am afraid that cannot be decided this instant. I sense extreme changes approaching quickly, thus it would do me no good to accept at this moment. I will consider your offer in the near future, when the time is right.

Fully understanding the decision taken by your nation, it is my hope that such a decision does not impede Porcuian humanitarian efforts to the region, whose travel route is directly through the Baltic and North Seas.

Not at all, we are willing to even escort your vessels if you allow. Venice is acting out greed, and they have a personal stake in this mess, while you and your nation from the beginning have only offered humanitarian aid, nothing more and we would expect nothing less.

Welsh-English border

The armies of Otto and the Crioscinna went on the offensive against Scottish forces. The bulk of the force fought through guerrilla tactics, though few were afraid of closing for melee. The Gallóglaigh relished taking down soldiers of the government that betrayed them. Irish cavalry was utilized to full effect, shocking Scottish troops with their skirmishing ability and charges.

Of course, the Irish were heavily outnumbered, and barely supported. They entered into a war the Welsh were already losing and that they knew they could not win. Overwhelming force ensured that bit by bit the heavily armored Irish forces were worn down, and Scottish artillery decimated all it touched. By the battle's end, the Irish had lost the majority of their forces, though they took over double their losses in Scots with them.

The proud Crioscinna were reduced to but a mere hundred. The Scots ensured the Gallóglaigh were targeted and either executed on the spot or captured. The Knights of Edessa took the most Scots with them, but only seven were to return home. The bulk of Otto's forces retreated upon the start of the Scottish bombardments. Otto, who had gone to Brittania for glory and victory, instead returned to Ireland in defeat with few men.

Official Correspondence on the Irish Assault

Let it be known that Wales has indeed already called a ceasefire, and the Irish were acting on their own will. We hold no responsibility for their actions, and any demands for reparations from their government will go unquestioned.

Joint Statement of the Ard Ri and the Oireachtas

We do not take responsibility for the actions of the Church nor the King of Munster and his lords. No Parliamentary nor Royal forces took part in the offensive, save for four Royal Guards serving to guard King Otto. We will not, however, condemn their actions. They fought and died valiantly for a cause they considered just. They will be welcomed back in Ireland, and their dead mourned.

The news of the Welsh acceptance of terms came to the king quickly, and was welcomed. With the large decimation of Welsh assets at the hands of the Scottish military, Scotland's day in the sun was being realized. The King made the journey to Liverpool, where Lord Wotton's estate at Tara was to be used as the center of negotiations. Through the great fortune of the English rebellion, the final nail was in the coffin. With the Welsh at his whims, Scotland had won its deserved position as undisputed master of the British Isles.

Owain Glyndŵr and Megan Conway were picked up by Scottish transports. They were treated with a great courtesy- an interesting change from the usual smugness which was used to address the small republic's officials. The two were taken directly to Tara, and were met immediately by Lord Wotton and King Edward. After Jack had given them the usual hospitalities- a cup of tea and a pipe to smoke- the two foreign dignitaries were welcomed into the study.

King Edward immediately greeted them. "Welcome, Welshmen." His bellowing tone was slightly condescending, but was mostly friendly and genuine. "It seems that your little war is coming to a close. I have invited you here to discuss the terms of a permanent peace settlement. Or, at least, a settlement as permanent as Britannia allows for.

"You know what I want. As I offered before all this blood shedding business was brought forward, I wish to buy England. Of course, at this point, the purchase will be little more than a triviality. As such, you will only be getting a fraction of the price that we would have paid before. That said, I offer you this as a hospitality, as a sign of our intentions for peace at the conclusion of this little conflict." The King wrote a number on a piece of paper and passed it over to the Welsh officials. Although it wasn't near the true worth of England, it was better than nothing- which would be precisely what they would get had they refused it.

"Well, does the offer appear acceptable to your likes?"

The Welsh leaders were surprised at the hospitalities that the Scottish showed, unlike the previous meetings.

Owain Glyndŵr looked down at the piece of paper, and then passed it along to Megan Conway. He let out a hoarse laugh that surprised the Scottish.

"Truth is, do I really have choice? This is perfectly acceptable, seeing if we refused this we would receive nothing. In return, all of England up to the Welsh Marches will go under the Scottish control."

Tara, Outside of the Study

While the King and the Welsh visitors discussed the specific dollar amounts inherent in the purchase, and other treaty terms, Lord Wotton's valet Jack had tapped him and called him outside.

"Sir, I believe some recent news from the front and elsewhere may be of particular concern to yourself and Good King Edward." Jack spoke with a clear nervousness in his voice, obviously distraught about what response his master might have. Lord Wotton stared impatiently at his servant, eager to return to the negotiations table.

"Well, Jack, spit it out. What are you talking about?" With every passing second that Jack hesitated, Lord Wotton grew more visibly discontent. "Jack, spit it the hell out, or I'm going back in."

Stammering, Jack pointed to an article on a nearby screen. The headline was simple. "Irish Forces Lead Surprise Attack, Quickly Struck Down By His Majesty's Forces."

Although obviously angered at the news, Lord Wotton's patience was wearing thin. "This is secondary information. I can deal with that later. Do you realize the magnitude of what's going on behind those doors?"

Jack became quiet. Feeling defeated, he pointed to yet another article. This one's news was far more disturbing. "Highland In Rebellion- 'Highland Confederation' Proclaimed." This news was too much. Lord Wotton kicked a chair. "God damn, inept Highlanders. The rebellious bastards don't know what's good for 'em. I thought King Edward had cleaned this up- but of course not. The dumb gingers up there don't know a damn thing about what's what. It seems our problem is persistent." After a moments more of silence, the First Minister walked back into the study.

In the Study

King Edward proudly sat in his chair, with the expression of a man victorious in a great undertaking. Indeed, his pride was fully warranted, as his foe had been vanquished and subdued. However, Lord Wotton came up to the king slowly, and whispered something about the rebellion in his ear. "They did what!?" The king exclaimed, temporarily falling from his regal composure. He turned back to his Welsh counterparts, and said politely, "excuse me, I have a quick matter to attend to."

With that, he and Wotton walked off to the far side of the massive study, and carried on a quiet though obviously heated conversation, leaving the bewildered Welsh visitors astonished and concerned for what news the valet had brought to the Scottish first minister.

---------

An Aside, between Lord Wotton and King Edward

"Harry, you must be kidding me. The Highlanders have really engaged in rebellion? Why? For what purpose?"

"Apparently, your highness, this war has got them antsy. With all this rebellion going on down south, I guess the Scottish lords your highness has dismantled have felt a bit of patriotic sentiment of their own."

"This highland business has become quite a bit of a hassle. My father had the same problems, you know."

"Indeed I do, sir. Those more unrefined Scotsmen are an untamable lot- even if they did go free, they would probably collapse under their own barbarity."

"Harry, that's right! I do wish they were a bit more tamable... no matter. In the scheme of things, this won't be a set back."

"Well then, your highness, what do you propose we do? The Welsh have supported these rebels back in the time of your father. I have no doubt that they have something to do with this occurrence."

"Harry, we are going to let them go. The northern reaches of this Island are of no great importance to me. We have the Welsh right where we want them. England is as good as ours. If the Welsh aren't associated with this uprising, let the Highlanders try to run themselves, and in good time we will try to tame them again. If the Welsh are associated, let them claim the Highlands, and they can deal with the headaches of their administration."

Lord Wotton, although reluctant to accept the fact of a loss in the whole affair, recognized the soundness of the king's reasoning. "Well, my king, I suppose that's quite a plan."

With this brief exchange, the pair returned to the negotiations.

-----------------

Back with the Welsh visitors

King Edward and Lord Wotton returned to the negotiations table. The Welsh guests still appeared perplexed and astonished. "Well, my guests," the King began. "I believe a kink has been thrown into this whole affair. I have just authorized the release of the furthest fringes of my country. The barbaric fiefdoms of the Highland Confederacy now constitute a sovereign entity, its capital Wick. Despite this release, I believe our previous agreement still stands?"

Dependent on the Welsh approval of the terms, the treaty would be written out and signed, therein ending the Scot-Welsh war.

The news of the Highland rebellion was shocking to the Welsh leaders at first, but then memories of numerous rebellion by these people came flooding back.

"The Highlands, that is truly a shame, such a beautiful place. Regardless, I don't see why this would impair our agreement, so yes, with all respect we agree. Let this treaty be written and let this accursed war be over with."

With the final Welsh acceptance of the matter, the final treaty was drawn out.

Now that the war was over, the Isles attempted to go back to the way it was before. With humanitarian aid still flowing in, reconstruction began, and though it was slow, it was surely beginning.

The payment the Welsh received by far exceeded their expenditures from the war. Without having to share money with the English territory, the majority of it went into completely renovating Wales.

The first renovation began with the Welsh industry. For far to long had Wales been lacking in modernization. Its factories where decades old, producing under-quality products that were usually ineffective at whatever purpose they were designed for. But with the British money, Wales underwent a massive industrial revolution unlike anything that has been seen before.

Infrastructure was next on the list. The dirt roads that dominated Wales were a thing of the past. No longer would bridges be made out of flimsy wooden beams, but strong reinforced concrete and other reliable material.

Agriculture was not forgotten either. The money went into a massive reformation of the farming industry. The size of the farms tripled in size, and covered a wide area of wales.

Even more so, now with the money, the Welsh government could lay off the necessary but steep taxes it had imposed upon its people in the hard times. Huge tax cuts were prominent within the months following the signing of the treaty. The people gained enormous amounts of wealth, unseen in Wales before. The population as a result was increasing dramatically. The Welsh people began to wonder who had truly won this war.

Most importantly, the military needed changes. For far too long had Wales been the blunt of jokes by military leaders across the globe. But now, it was to become modernized.

It started with the Navy. As a small Island county, the only country it shared borders with was the Kingdom of Great Britain, but a 5 year truce prevented any aggression. The Navy's power rose through the ranks, and soon enough, it was second only to Great Britain. Wales had secured its place on the high seas.

The same amount of emphasis was placed on the Air Force, if not more. Technology that was unknown to the welsh was soon discovered, and thus the quality of the Air Force improved. Air power was essential to the Welsh, as was the Navy due to the location of Wales.

The Army, although was last in line to become modernized, still benefited greatly. Millions poured into it, especially the Special Operations Branch, which itself was already gaining as reputation in the world.

No longer would Wales need to rely on its allies for survival. It now stood as a major world power, rivaling those of Rome, The Confederacy, Russia, and what had once been France.
