OOC: I can't drum up the motivation to put effort into the factions I've created. I'm retiring Nag Ehgoeg. You can continue the RP without me - see if you can't set up a new government in Nag Ehgoeg as a colony or something. Or let the land slip into anarchy. Do as you will. I stopped playing this game a long time ago and I'm not flogging a dead horse any longer.

[Edit]

I reserve the right to do stuff with Dahar, Shin and Stilgar if the mood strikes me, so give me a heads up if you want to kill them off or absorb them into your nation. (Baimenov is linked inexorably to Nag Ehgoeg, so making him a homeless wanderer doesn't make sense.)

Walking through the harsh land in the night, Pieter was captured. A company of Dominion troops had apprehended him, and a few recognized him.

"What the hell was that?" one man asked him.

"What the hell was what?" Pieter replied. He was not sure how to identify any of them, aside from recognizing the type of weapon that was, once again, pressed against his throat. Ranks were lost to him.

The man spat on the ground. "You betrayed our trust."

"No, not just yours."

"You double-crossing..."

"Triple-crossing, actually," he said. "There is a world of opportunity in these parts. The wonderful chaos that can emerge from a few well-placed decisions, it's all part of a plan, really."

"What are you talking about? Who do you really work for?"

"I'm self-employed. I only have myself to worry about."

"I should kill you now."

"No, you should work for me."

The group went completely silent, having started to grunt in agreement with the man with the gun, or sigh heavily. Pieter was loving it, he thought of it as theater.

"Look what I did to Aralsk alone. In what, two weeks? I put a professional army, an ideological army, and a resurging army, all to shame. I didn't let anyone win. The communists were taken out of the picture, the Ulganians were pitted in a quagmire, and the Dominion probably lost the fewest actual people."

"We could have had that city..."

"And would have lost ten times as many men, and who knows how much supplies."

"What's your angle."

"Work for me. I have information, and I could help make this country undesirable to foreigners."

"Hey, aren't you Ulganian?" one man shouted.

The group began to murmur.

"I belong to no country," he said. Apparently it was enough to quiet them. "Give me your trust, and I will make this your country."

OOC: Just Wrapping up my involvement here, don't intend to post more after this.

IC:

The Airport in Astana had been mostly quiet as of late, aside from the random Confederate cargo plane that came in every so often. Most of the flags that once flew proudly at the terminal's entrance were now gone. ICON operations were now mostly Confederate operations and in the last few months, they were not successful operations. It was about midnight in the city when a small plane came to a rest on one of the more remote landing strips of the airport. Two soldiers in a humvee were awaiting as a man came out of the plane and entered the vehicle. It sped away quickly and came around to the main structure of the airport, allowing the man to enter from a small back door. Climbing a few flights of stairs, the man then entered a hallway, turned down a second hallway, and then came into a conference room that had been prepared for his arrival.

General Campbell entered shortly after the man, saluting to him as he entered the room and stood before him.

"Vice President Upton" said General Campbell, "If we'd have been altered of your trip with more time, we'd have made better arrangements."

"My trip here is very low-key general" said the Vice President. "President Wright wants to know the honest truth about Kazakhstan. He believes in Montgomery's vision for this country but also understands that ICON and allied support has since waned. We cannot afford a costly war with no end in sight General, so please what is our current situation?"

The General had feared a meeting like this was in the works, especially when news of the Uglanians invasion of the south had made international headlines.

"Well sir it doesn't look good for a democracy here in Kazakhstan" said the General, taking a seat at the table. "In the last couple of months more and more support has failed for our ICON allies, Dominion holdout groups are winning over more and more support with the local people, and infighting between the groups we have won over have ensured any true democracy here improbable. Seven attempts at assassinating the two men I believed would carry the most influence in a strong government here has sowed in so much distrust between these two groups that getting them to cooperate for the greater good is dead. If I may speak frankly sir..."

"but of course General" said the Vice President.

"I tried my damnedest to get these sons of bitches to work together." said the General, loosening his tongue. "I bribed them, threatened them, sweet talked them and just when I thought I had everything right, one would double-crossed me and put us back as square one. These people just don't want order sir, they like being stuck in damn chaos and anarchy. I came to this country on the orders of Montgomery but in my heart, I would have come here regardless because I believed in Montgomery's dream of a wiping the remnants of the Dominon off the map and delivering democracy here to the Middle East. Unless the Confederacy is ready to commit all forces it has to hunting down these Dominion hold outs here, I cannot do anything more then what I've been doing now for the last few months and that's keep relatively peace here in Astana."

"I see General" said Upton. "President Wright was afraid you'd have as grim a picture here as you do. Sadly, former President Price has already committed troops in Asia as well. We cannot afford more troops here and in all honesty, the Confederate public are growing tired of war entirely. We understand that while the Ulganians were here, our troops were getting some relief but I'm assuming with them gone we will begin to see higher causalities here. President Wright's administration isn't will to see that happen, especially now that we see the situation here is so dire. How many locals have we been able to train for security purposes?"

"About 500 men so far sir, plus the civilian armies that were already operating in the area."

"Can these people survive on that against these Dominion holdouts General?"

"For a time perhaps, long term though...whatever government is here will likely collapse and we'll have civil war. That, or the Dominion holdouts we'll gain control....ugly either way."

"It may be ugly General, but its our only option. President Wright has ordered me here to assess the situation and, if I found it to be essentially a failure, I am order to call off the operation and order you to bring the troops home. Unless there is something you haven't told me that would change my mind, I intend to give you that order."

General Campbell sat there for a moment thinking. He didn't like the thought of failing, he certainly never failed during the Dominion Wars at least not in such a major way as this. At the same time, he knew that it would take a miracle to save operations in Kazakhstan given the current situations. More importantly, as a man who loved war and leading men to victory, he was most worried that this was it for his in field military career.

"No sir" said Campbell finally.

"Then General Campbell" said Upton, "On the expressed command of President Wright you are hereby ordered to pull all Confederate forces out of Kazakhstan. You have a month to get all personnel and essential equipment out of this country. Now while those are your official orders, the President also has a few off-the-record requests. First, we want this to be done as subtly as possible General. Secondly, the less you say to the government here the better. Understandably, they'll be upset once they understand we're leaving so we'd like to keep that until the last minute. Finally, we don't want to leave these people without some hope. While we want to tank all our major equipment, we ask that all non-essential riffles and side-arms be left behind. Aside from these orders and requests, the operation is all yours General."

"Tell the President I will complete my orders as given" said the old General, saluting again as the Vice President rose from his seat.

"I will pass it on the President when I see him again in Atlanta"

With that Vice president Upton shook the General's hand before leaving the room, to be escorted back to the humvee and then to his plane. The Confederacies operations in Kazakhstan were now over, what future the country had was now in its own hands.
