Religion plays a very important part in the Middle Ages. I think it is important enough to warrant it's own subforum, right under Nation's Descriptions. This would include the Islamic and Orthodox equivalents. I see no reason why there shouldn't be. Each nation can have a cardinal (or whatever the other religions call it) to attend the college. The pope equivalent is run by one of the mods. Huesca has Avignon, so I think Al should take the Roman pope because Filo has dropped out, leaving the Papal States an NPC. The Islamic and Orthodox players can decide among themselves who get's the pope equivalent. So, yes or no? Thoughts and opinions please. Edited by Telosan, Nov 10 2009, 11:39 PM.

Islam and Orthodoxy don't exactly have a Pope equivalent, but I suppose I can take a whack at it. In Orthodoxy, the Pope of Rome was the first among equals. When the schism happened, the Patriarch of Constantinople became the first among equals. The current situation of the churches being united won't last, so continue to consider that Patriarch as the spiritual leader of the Orthodox Church. In Islam, I believe the Caliph is supposed to be the spiritual leader. There are not supposed to be "men-of-the-cloth" in Sunni Islam. Then there are the Imams of Shia Islam, but I don't think any of them are supposed to head all of Islam. In either case, there is supposed to be a Caliph at the head of it all. Mind you, this is based on what I remember. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

I'm going to let the vote run until Friday, so everyone can have their say. The subforum doesn't really have to be a college or cardinals. More so a place for the religious aspects, including crusades and diplomacy between the religions. The College of Cardinals could be a stickied thread. |

It's Friday and the vote is 5 to 2. Huesca, may we have the subforum set up? |

I have no idea what you're asking for here. Some kind of religion forum? Or a forum for the College of Cardinals? What kind of content is going to go there? If it's a thread listing each nation's standing with Rome then a simple stickied thread will do it. If it's for all religious role play then won't that leave the main forum a little bare? Can you clarify this for me? |

I was thinking it'd be a forum for anything relating to the pope/caliph/patriarch. Petitions for crusades would be here, religious requests, etc, so long as the pope is involved directly. The coronation of the holy roman emperor for example. The main forum shouldn't be bare as diplomacy, war, and nonreligious rps would be there. Religious rps would not count things mentioning religion, like a treaty between nations of different churches about a religious aspect. Am I confusing you? I can mod it if that's easier, and it can always be removed, right? |
