"Work is the curse of the drinking classes."

This thread will act as the home for the British Isles Cup, a tournament held to see who is the champion among the nations of the British Isles - England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. As with other threads, OCC chat should be kept to a minimum though IC reports/comment/predcitions are more than welcome.

The tournament will be a double round robin, each nation playing each other twice, once at home and once away. The two teams with the highest point totals after the final match will play in the finals. Standard point scoring applies: three (3) points for a win, one (1) for a tie, and zero (0) for a loss.

The location(s) of each British Isles Cup will be left to TC, Landallius, Sedulius and Atticus. I will only provide match fixtures and rudamentary point tables.

***Please direct all questions and OOC comments to the main thread.***

FIFA FINALLY APPROVES BRITISH ISLES CUP PROPOSAL

Posted Image

Stockholm - A final verdict was not scheduled to be given until later in the week, however, to football fans across the British Isles now is as good of a time as any. President of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, or FIFA, Thibault Dubois made a surprise announcement today after meeting with English and Welsh football representatives in Stockholm.

"The English and Welsh representatives and I had a very good discussion about their proposal earlier in the morning and, as I personally felt the proposal was adequately planned and put together, I submitted it to the Executive Committee for a vote. I am pleased to announce that the proposal passed unanimously and that the British Isles Cup has now been established as an official FIFA tournament."

Within a couple of hours of the announcement, flags could be seen draped across buildings and street corners from the English Channel to the Northern Atlantic with a clear mood of excitement on every face. Details of the tournament's proceedings have not yet been released, as a joint committee of representatives from all the participant nations will be in charge of managing the event. With Ireland's current position in the official FIFA standings, Éire has already been chosen as the favorite.

England's unfortunate performance in the first two rounds of the British Isles Cup has eliminated them from possibly making it to the finals. The best that England could do would be 8 points, being able to achieve 3rd place. However, two wins against Scotland could help national pride.

Wales's national team is within grasp of the title. The tie with England and the loss against Scotland has impact the countries morale, but we are still going strong. We depend on the swift victory over the Irish for a better chance at the Title.

SCOTLAND AND WALES SET FOR FINALS

Posted Image

Scotland - The stage is set for the first finals match in British Isles Cup history. Two extremely well deserving teams seem ready to play in tomorrow's match.

Scotland, a recent addition into FIFA, has appeared solid on both sides of the ball, cruising to first place in the standings. Wales, on the other hand, had to hold off a late Irish push but have managed to represent their country well thus far. High octane offenses will be pitted on the field, just south of Edinburgh, and the result will be something to witness.

Scotland Wins A Thriller In Shootout

Posted Image

Scotland - An impressive showing in regulation time by both teams kept fans on the edge of their seats, increasing as the game progressed into overtime and then the shootout.

Tied 1-1 after regulation time, Wales had several opportunities to close the game and win a historic first British Isles Cup. Scotland, however, could rely upon their outstanding goalkeeper, named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, to keep them in the game. Scotland managed to get on the board first, scoring off of a corner in the 25th minute. Wales overcame a slow start, building steam and momentum as the game progressed, to tie the game in the 78th minute off of a beautiful cross and header finish. In overtime, Wales continued to pile on the pressure but Scotland managed to hang in and eventually the game had to be decided in a shootout.

Final Score: Scotland- 5, Wales- 4 (Regulation: 1-1, Shootout: 4-3)

Today, our Welsh team will be playing against Scotland. Tensions are still strong, due to the fact Wales and Scotland both were within moments of declaring war against each other over the unoccupied English territory. To ensure the safety of spectators and players, a special police has been called to help supervise in case something goes horribly wrong.

With Scotland having a strong lead over Wales, this will certainly be a stunning game. In the last games, Scotland managed to beat and tie with Wales. This time, our team wont lose. With this win will come the recognition the Welsh team had been looking for.

Edit:  Damn, too late.
