My college's Model UN club was assigned Burkina Faso; Pardon me as I break something.

SERIOUSLY, we were given Pakistan last year, and Montenegro the year before. If there's any reason for me to even stay in the club, it's that I'm the Head Delegate of the entire delegation.

Pardon the idle complaining.

Now, can anyone think of anything useful the country's done that isn't on it's Wikipedia page?

Burkina Faso has large uranium reserves.

Align yourself with Iran and North Korea.

That's so very useful when we're talking about woman's rights

The other countries will have to listen more closely to what you say about womens rights if you first build and possess nukes.

Make it your team's challenge to have Burkina Faso build and test a nuclear bomb before the model UN session is over. Tip: accuse the big countries of racism when they try to stop you.

I pride myself in knowing basically every country...

I have NEVER heard of Burkina Faso. I literally was expecting some random island in the Pacific. Then I see it in Africa? WTF. It's like I've literally just passed over that spot on the map every time I've looked at Africa or something.

But yeah, just go as extreme as you can. ;)

Besides the fact that you got a small unknown country, this would seem really fun to do.

Then demand equality for women... or else you put the bomb on your fastest goat and blow Mali to the moon

Actually, I have no idea what I'm talking about until I get my committee. I'm pulling for Legal this year... wait, I'm the head-freaking-delegate, I assign the freaking committees! Awesome!

Legal Committee topics

This is only giving me motivation to vouch for the humane and humanitarian acts of Omar al-Bashir.

Perhaps he could accuse them of racism for even bringing up the Eurocentric issue of women's rights, calling it a form of cultural imperialism that Western countries impose on Third World nations as a form of neo-colonialism?

Considering I'm going to be discussing some of what I discussed about, that may not be too useful. However, being that it's the Model UN I'm sure 4 or 5 committees will be talking about teh womynz.

You said women's rights in Post 4. You can't take that back, and I will not recognize you as dealing with any other issue. Furthermore, I am considering writing to the Model UN administration, asking that they ensure that the leader of the Burkina Faso team is assigned to the women's rights committee.

Oh reminds me of when i was in Model UN. What conference are you going to? St. Louis, New York, or Chicago? Or one of the smaller ones?

I'd ask allesandra :P She was in UN for awhile, AND SHE'S A WOMAN! Haha

I wrote a book on MUN in general as a guide, its not country specific, more like how to do shit right. If you want a copy PM me your e-mail address.

It's the Boston MUN. It's a pretty massive one though, with like 3000 students.

I'd like to think I'm pretty good with it at this point. Like I said, I'm the Head Delegate for my college this year, and this is my 5th conference

On what basis are schools assigned to their respective countries? I never figured that one out, though I'm assuming it has something to do with the number of years the schools has been affiliated with the Model UN. When I did Model UN in high school it was my school's first year participating so we got a crappy assignment.

We're several years into committing to this UN conference. This is where I wish my school had a better reputation. As we're a private school known for post-grad Law and Engineering programs it's immensely difficult for us to have a school-supported reputation. Virtually every effort that we make to get our name out is squandered for a litany of useless reasons.

I could imagine Ulgania standing up in front of 3000 other delegates and trying to explain to them why his country decided to build nukes over women's rights.

I'm with TC on this one. You need a nuke in order to get anything done. Nobody cares what Burkina Faso says unless they're angrily brandishing weapons of mass destruction. You could always con the Iranians into shipping you their uranium enrichment equipment. You'd be doing the world a favor, really. Plus, it would put you way ahead of the game.

Also, I think the conference staff would be highly impressed by your ability to step outside of the rather constrictive box that is international law and use alternative methods to get to the heart of the matter at hand.

All the model un's i've been to the countries were assigned the year before during something like an advisor meeting. Each school took turns until they had all chosen two or three.

new schools would probubly get the left over if they hadnt been present for the initial chosings.

It might be different for us if it were like that.

But damn, BF is one backwater little country. Backwater enough for me so that when the Mt. Holyoke girl tries to egotistically say something about the Czech Republic (something that happened last year) I can come back with something like "Yeah, well we're Burkina Faso. You guys have fun with your fun little Czech language. I'm gonna be speaking French over here with the important countries. Like France."
