Filo, how is your Italy united? Through a treaty, group of alliances, etc? Would you say that the Papal States are one of these administrative divisions? How much would you mind a circle around Rome (including the land west of Rome to the coast) being independant for the pope?

Are the Roman popes and Avignon popes rivaling each other? Or am I just not getting it and they don't exist simultaneously?

Either way, since the pope is currently (I think) under Huesca's control, I wanted to throw an idea out here. Should there be a stickied thread/subforum in the Role Play section for all matters relating to the pope? Crusades, religious organizations, and cardinals? There could also be a thing that shows your current standing with the pope so you know that if you attack someone, all of christiandom won't come raining down on your head for hitting the most pious nation.

The could also be somethings like that for the other major religions. Maybe easier to just make a religion subforum. Thoughts?

Here is the Pope issue:

There are two Popes - one seated in Avignon, and the other seated in Rome. The Avignon Pope has temporal power, while the one in Rome does not (they are just a Bishop). Both claim to be Bishops of Rome. Neither recognizes the other as Catholic.

Avignon is not in communion with the Orthodox faith. It does not recognize the Orthodox faith as Catholic, or followers of Rome as Catholic.

The current Roman Bishop is controlled by Filo. I do not know how the Roman Bishop and the Constantinople Patriarchs relate in terms of power.

Conclaves will be held every now and then. Followers of the Bishop of Rome, including Orthodox players in communion, may vote for a new Papal player at this time.

Christian factions needs to pick one side - Avignon, Rome, or Orthodox.

SIMPLE:

Orthodox & Catholic factions in communion are Rome. Catholic factions not in communion are Avignon. Orthodox factions not in communion are Orthodox.

I understand the pope issue now, but you didn't answer my question from above.

Nah.
Why not? It would lessen a great deal of confusion while separating the religious matters so they can be more easily seen.

The Habsburgs do not have good relations with either pope, even though they are nominally aligned with the Roman pope. The standing of the papacy has fallen in their eyes due to the western schism and the Habsburgs are interested in a solution to end the schism via a council.

Just realized we need someone to play the pope now that Filo is gone. Should we decide that with the first order of buisness of the college of cardinals?

Sure thing. I'll start one up as a game mod momentarily.
