Actually, if it weren't for idiot Europeans who decided that it was just a peachy idea to promise the same land to two different people, these problems wouldn't exist. Also, if it weren't for jingoists ignorant of the politics of the Middle East whose thinking so dominates the United States, such as Atticus here, we wouldn't be having this problem. |

That doesn't justify their intolerance to all other religion. Also, the Jews had Jerusalem first, but they were kicked out. |

Do you really think that that is what the Arab-Israeli conflict is about? Really? Beyond that, do you know a single Muslim? |

I don't believe you'd be as willing to give California to the Mexicans. |

Yes, I feel that a large portion of conflict and terrorism in the middle east is religiously based. I do know a Muslim, and he is not racist or anti-semite as far as I know. But do you really think that the radical Muslims in aren't intolerant, and act on radical religious ideas coupled with leaders using religion for political gains? I'm not saying Muslims as a whole are bad people, but a few of them are bad people. Here's something good. http://www.buffalonews.com/cityregion/southernsuburbs/story/579324.html |

Yeah, but they practically own Southern California. But why would we give it to them, it would only go to waste with their bad leadership and drug wars. |

Religiously based, sure, but religiously caused? The war in the Levant is a war of nationalism that uses religion as a facade. The Jews are atheist socialists primarily, the Arabs are nationalists whose religion is a secondary characteristic. Then why the hell would you say what you've said previously? It's as if somebody said "Neteyanhu is an asshole" and then decided that it would be appropriate to support the Final Solution because of that. |

I can't say I know enough about the Jews to make a statement, but your assessment of the Arabs couldn't be more wrong. They are people of absolute faith. They are Muslims before they are Arabs, or Turks, or Persians. At least the fundamentalists follow that train of thought. Faith first, earth second. The Muslims are the most devout folks you'll ever meet. |

hey, I live in California. And there is no way in hell I'm becoming mexican. But i do think we should quarantine San Fransisco and destroy whatever foul thing that helped to create Pelosi. Or we can give her to mexico. You know, the word check suggest that I capitalize mexico.....yeah right, like that's really going to happen. |

The fundamentalists make up a tiny percentage of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Further, if you are going to run your mouth about a conflict without even vaguely trying to understand these things, no, I'm not going to waste my time explaining them to you. Edited by Quaon, Oct 12 2009, 08:32 AM.

But Quaon wasn't talking about Muslims in general. He is talking about Palestinian nationalists whose position in the conflict is that they have been dispossessed of what they see as their homeland. This is about two groups wanting to live in the same place, but who don't want the other one to live there too. Whether Mohammed is God's Messenger or not is a distant concern by comparison. Also, what you describe is an ideal, but ethnic prejudices are as common in the Islamic world as anywhere else. There are many parts of the Islamic world where Arabs (and true, penninsular, Arabs at that) are seen as superior to other Muslims, though I think Turks and Persians consider themselves superior to Arabs (though other peoples wouldn't generally agree). |

Btw the cost of undertaking such a military expedition would devastate the American economy and consign our country to 3rd world status. |

Oh, I meant more-so in the last month or so than I've seen in a while. Something about having to deal with classes, research, writing papers, studying in general, etc... has taken the bite out of the debates here. I just forgot how acute it was  |

They're meh debates though, to be honest. Not that I contribute anything better to them, but they're always the same, and they always boil down to government vs government and that's not a particularly interesting thing to debate ad naseum. |
