It's the "Congratulations for not being George Bush" prize.

Also considering NASA bombed the moon this morning, the US should be winning more and more prizes. I mean, c'mon, we just bombed the moon. Shower us with ironic gifts of peace!

Not Obama's fault, but he should fucking reject that prize like an AID ridden whore.

The Nobel Peace Prize is a joke. They give it to Al Gore either last year or the year before for his Global Warming awareness efforts. It is worthless, meaningless, and utterly political, so let's not be surprised when it is awarded politically. If I were awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, I would pee on it.

Oh by the way, here is President Obama's response.
President Obama

"I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments but rather an affirmation of American leadership," he said, speaking in the White House Rose Garden. "I will accept this award as a call to action."
Of course he is right to be humble in the sense of not attributing this to his own accomplishments, as he has not actually achieved any sort of peace anywhere so far. But the rest of this statement is pretty much the worst possible outcome. "Call[s ] to action" and "American leadership" rarely seem to mean peace these days.

The craziest part is that the nomination process ends February 1st, just after he first entered office

So people were nominating him within weeks of his inauguration? *facepalm*

Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, and now Barack Obama... the NPP should be renamed the US Democratic Party 1.5 Million Dollar Prize.

Not a bad idea, though I'm not sure of the answer myself. If all you have to do to win this meaningless prize is to talk big then I'm going to write a marvelous essay/speech about world peace and demand that I win.

Like Abnar said, utter bullshit.

Hey give JC his due, spawning a gas crisis and failing to get American hostages to be released would be a pretty tall order for anyone, right?

Well, he did make the Middle East a 'vital' need to secure. You make something 'vital', you're going to have to get something for it.

Making something 'vital' should be a cause for punishment. Perhaps we can publically flog the guy?

JC won for his work after he was president, you know, "Habitat for Humanity" and all that jazz.

W. Wilson also won, for the very successful "League of Nations", another progressive democrat.

TR won for reasons I have no idea about. A progressive republican that should be considered a democrart!

Adolf Hitler was nominated - twice!

There are many people that deserve the prize. Obama certainly doesn't. Al Gore even less so.

I'd vote for Obama immediately over Gore. Gore is hypocritical scum. He doesn't practice what he preaches.

Of course, I'd vote for McCain any day over most people.

I would vote for Obama over Mitt Romney. Mormons get into the highest office of this land over my dead body. Remember, I hate that Church, not its members.

I just heard about this in school. They announced it on the PA system. Half my class cheered/applauded. I started arguing with people around me that it was pure and unproccessed shit. Obama has done NOTHING to deserve it. Absolutely NOTHING. My entire class denied that fact and kept pointing out stupid crap.

"He broke the race barrier and was the first African-American to be in office."
Yeah, but that doesn't mean he deserves a PEACE prize for it. Besides the fact that he's even an African-American is still to be debated.

"He ended the war in Iraq."
WTF?!!? What year are you living in?

"He said he'll withdraw from Iraq and end the war in the Middle East."
Yeah, so he can take all those troops and drop them farther east in Afghanistan.

"He's an all-around better president, better leader, and better person that Bush could ever hope to be."
...

I hate stupidity. Yet I'm drowning in it on a daily basis. The only thing I've heard since he took office that I thought was a good idea was him considering lengthening the school year/day.
