OOC: These events take place after the Dominion War in Europe, which took place here. It should be made clear that Zapht has not fallen.

Rome, the Italian Peninsula...

For generations the Italian Peninsula had been the territorial home of the Genesian faith. Spreading from the far reaches of Genesis city the Pope had claimed this land as his own and brought it under the Papal authority of his crown. For hundreds of years it lived in the prosperity afforded to it by the Popes of the Genesian church as they guarded its greatest treasure from the heathens of Europe, the city of Rome. Beyond the Holy City of Jerusalem, the city of Rome was a sacred site and one of the key centers of power for the Papal authority. Having survived countless wars both internal and those brought on by external forces, the city was the last great Citidel of Genesian Catholicism left in the region of former Catholic Europe.

Several warship had been assembly hastily for this expedition as they knew the time was of the essence. With Genesis city in ruins and the greatest Catholic nation on Earth all but the destroyed, saving the city of Rome was all that the faithful could accomplish. Dominion forces had retreated from the area early on during the European campaign after the Catholics began to revolt. The city had been mostly abandoned saved for the faithful natives that remained. Boots hit the beach with lightening precision as they stormed up the coastline and into the city of Rome. Aircraft began flying overhead and tanks began to roar through the city streets. The inhabitants feared that the Dominion had returned to once again stake its claims.

However, these were not Dominion soldiers. On the contrary they were of one race, one nationality, and most importantly of one faith. They stormed through the city within hours and began taking key positions throughout the city. They went as far as the limits of the Vatican, that great walled city within the city of Rome. Neither tank nor armed man dare to cross the line, to enter the wall city of cities. Instead they simply stood their at the border waiting. Eventually a military jeep came to the front of the procession. A young man stepped out of the jeep, his face carrying distinction marks the people were all too familiar with. In his hands he carried two folded items. Several other jeeps also came to the front and their passengers also disembarked. No one was armed, no were any of them in military dress.

The young man began to walk forward, crossing the threshold and entering the Vatican. The others followed save for the military personnel. They entered Saint Peter's Square in a formal line, walking at the same speed in a procession all the way to Saint Peter's Basilica where the young man and several other gentlemen enter. A few moments later two flags were draped across the balcony of the building. The first was a flag most revered by the people of Rome, a site which forced many to cheer with great gory.

It was the national flag of the Papal Empire of Catholic Europe. For centuries it had flown proudly over the great buildings and government works of the region. It was a true symbol of power for the Catholic people and seeing it again brought many to tears. The second flag draped across the balcony was a little less familiar, though the oldest among the crowd hand seen it before.

This sight of the national flag of the Catholic Commonwealth of South Africa made many began to whisper as it was certainly confusing. The crowds really began to pour in now as it was apparent the city of Rome was well secure within the Commonwealth's grasp. Clergy men, South African priests were among the men who had enter the city following the young man who carried the flags which now fluttered in the wind. They made up the front row of this ever expanding ground. Within an hours time, when it seemed as it Saint Peter's square was about to explode from the pressure of the crowds, the young man finally appeared at the balcony.

"Citizens of Rome, faithful Catholics, and Obedient Children of God. Today the once proud and majestic nation of Catholic Europe crumbles into ashes in the wake of the Dominion's war machine. They have ravaged and corrupted this fair nation for too long, their puppet Caesar took everything from you and left you to rot. However, although all seemed lost God did not forget you. God look upon you and saw that you were good, that you continued to serve his divine will and for this he has seen to your salvation. Rome has been the under the influence and protection of Catholics since time memorial. The Popes of Genesis City have taken care of you and have drawn their power from you. Faithful Catholics that we are, we cannot allow this city to waste away in despair we cannot allow her streets to fall into the hands of heretics."

"That is why from this moment forward, the city of Rome shall now and forever be a protectorate of the Genesian Catholic Church, to be protected by the faithful and to be administered by the Royal Pope. However, until such time as a Pope Royale returns to Rome to run from her seat, I Prince Thomas dos Santos Aveiro-Medici II shall act as regent and custodian of the city of Rome. I call upon the truly faithful to send their finest of men to Rome for her protection so that our most sacred city in Europe can forever be protected from the heathens and heretics that wish to take her from her one true natives."

The Teutonic Knight's recent history was one of shame, bankruptcy and lack of membership. These had almost destroyed the once glorious Order.

Almost.

When the Dominion began its bloody rampage, the few brother knights carefully played both sides. They raked in the cash as they served as spies, assassins and saboteurs. Both sides needed them, and both sides remained ignorant to the Knights loyalty. As the desperation of both sides grew, the Knight's power grew. With the Coalition forces trusting them more and more (And winning more and more), the Hochmeister finally felt safe in staking his claim. Prussia. The Order's future seemed bright, with the land of it's past once again under it's control. Their coffers full of blood money, their ranks swelled, and their power grew

God provided for the faithful

Twenty Knights entered the Vatican, their banners caught high in the morning breeze, their armor burnished to a wonderful shine, their weapons spotless and ready. They came to answer the call of the Africans, and while they where small in number, their spirit was strong.

OOC: You guys working together on holding Rome?

IC: The Teutonic Order recently condemned the LFN, stating that we Venetians are the worst offenders of destablizing a fragile world with our greed, leading to suffering. Now, the Order follows the Catholic Commonwealth into Rome. Who is destablizing the world? The people of Venice joined a treaty for peace, while those in opposition are now taking over one of the more prominent cities in Europe, if not the world.

Venice is disturbed by these actions and believes the Teutonic Order is acting on their own greed, rather than the will of their god. The Catholic Commonwealth has no buisness in Europe altogether. We suggest a prompt departure or Venice may be forced to act.

"If greed was our motive we would have seized all of Italy, including Venice. But no, we seek peace, and only secure Rome. Perhaps you need a lesson in humility, because you can not see your own ignorance."

OOC: I hope you guys don't mind me jumping in with you.

IC:

The Falangist regime in Huesca had always been profoundly Catholic. When Genesian forces had taken Rome, celebrations in the streets were encouraged by the regime. The Bishop of Pamplona, Federico Esteban, was sent to Rome as an envoy for the Falangists. Accompanying him was a contingent of twenty men, some of Huesca's, and thus the world's finest soldiers. They were a gift for Rome. A token of Huesca's commitment to ensuring that the Genesian reclamation was total, and eternal. They were a declaration of support from Huesca, and their intent to defend Rome for the Church of St. Peter.

OOC: It should be noted that Rome will be a territory held by all Genesian Catholic nations and not just mine/T.O./etc. My regent was simply a formality as it seemed only proper that the Regent of Rome be of the Papal Royal Blood until such time as we return the Pope to Rome.

"I will never recognize a Pope of Rome chosen by bloodline, nor, I am sure, will the rest of Catholicism. If the Genesians ever wish to reconcile with the rest of Catholicism, they will abolish the corrupt and archaic doctrine of the Papal Bloodline and reestablish the doctrine of Papal Election.

"As to the Genesian Church declaring the city of Rome its protectorate, this is hardly acceptable. However, I will be willing to tolerate it if pilgrims of all Christian faiths are allowed to go to the city and worship unhindered. If Genesians harm any pilgrims of the True Church, the Order of Saint Patrick will crusade to reclaim Rome for the Faith, and many are sure to follow."

-Statement from Cologne-

Though we too generally disagree with the return of the tired and spent Royal Papal line, for the sake of stability in the newly anarchic lands of Catholic Europe, the Church shall not hinder the establishment of a Genesian protectorate over Rome.

The Church does, however, reserve the right to change its decision depending on the political realities in the future.

OOC-

In otherwords, Cologne is happy that Rome isn't in anarchy, but intends to challenge this regime at a later date, when stability is no longer such an issue.

The World Military Dominion does not recognise the authority of Prince Thomas - in Rome or otherwise.

OOC: This is going to go in the same way the Commonwealth is going after Italy.

IC: The Iberian Shift

With the European theater all but concluded, most of the continent continued to burn. In those places where major operations occurred, the land would be scarred for years to come. In those places where secondary and tertiary operations occurred, there were fewer scars, but the long-lasting effects of years of chaos still existed.

In Africa, the Dominion had been flushed to the north, and were waning in power. Such things were difficult to avoid given the outcome of Operation Titan. However, despite this there were still many issues to deal with. Chiefly, from the Ulganian perspective, was its rise in influence in Europe. Porcu and Marslava had been integral in a new foreign policy that Tres Valentine had been assembling.

Now the next phase of the plan would begin, with an operation that would work alongside the Holy Catholic Commonwealth. An incursion of Iberia, the Srolonkan flatlands, by an extension of the Mechanized Corp. and the Gungir was beginning. The Russian fleets and ground forces in the area were contacted.

Landing troops flooded the shores, expecting some kind of resistance from the loosely governed landscape. Military rule, while it kept things quiet on a whole, did come up lacking in many areas. For that reason, the coastline south of the Russia colony was usurped with a bit of fanfare.

Ever since the Dominion began its war, the world was increasingly unstable. And now with threats from Venice and her allies the future looked less peaceful. The Order's engineers began to construct fortification around Rome, trenches, AA guns, artillery batteries, and underground bunkers. Soldiers slowly trickled in, but the Teutonic garrison remained quite small for the time being.

OOC: Just trying to get this thing back on track

One would hope the powers of Europe would be more focused on ending the Dominion threat for good rather than worrying over who owns what. For continued shirking of responsibility will only alllow Gassel back into Europe.

Being a highly secular nation, the French Republic issued no official statement on the conquest of Rome. Instead, it remained quite, ready to intervene in any situation that may need its immediate concern.

"Work is the curse of the drinking classes."

No official response was sent from Stockholm; however, a few government officials and various organizations decried the actions of the Holy Catholic Commonwealth and the Teutonic Order.
