My desktop is liable to cause offence to the religious.

I was using this background. Much, much funnier if you've played Dawn of War and know what you're looking at. Much more offensive if you're Muslim (but then, what isn't).

This one is concentrated hilarity.

The House one doesn't particularly entertain me.

Is that Gibraltar?

My cluttered desktop:

I couldn't answer that if I tried. But I am a sucker for backgrounds of cities at night with the exposure left open. I've used several of them in the past.

It's meant to neither entertain nor insult (nor titillate nor flatter) - a rarity for my desktops.

I like it because it's a good background. Doesn't pull attention. Represents something I enjoy. And I wanted a black desktop theme so...

Plus I wanted to replace "start" with something cool.

Yes, I can see it being a good choice for those criteria.

I like the quote. Even though it's meant antagonistically, I don't think it is particularly discouraging to those of faith. It's a pleasant truth.

Nag, I can't believe you are using your dictatorial admin powers for your personal desires. :o

Nag abusing his authority is like Mongolia conquering Poland.

I don't fully understand the analogy from a historical perspective.

I suppose it couldn't happen is the idea he's trying to get across. I think it's purposefully ahistorical.

I was confused for a moment because the Mongol Horde indeed conquered and burned Poland (before quitting the country as quickly and mysteriously as they entered).

They did, didn't they? In that case, I suppose it's not a particularly apt metaphor.

Mongolia(More like Genghis Khan did) kinda did invade Poland(At its greatest extent it stretched from the Danube to the Sea of Japan)...

Perhaps he was indicating an event that happens only once but in a horrifying and spectacular fashion?

Hm. Interesting theory. I don't think it was really much of an abuse at all. It would be a very, very impressive metaphor if that was indeed what he meant though.

Once? No. Since they've exploded outwards more than once it can count more than once.

Horrifyingly spectacular? That's more of what I was going for.

Excellent. However, the Mongols did indeed only conquer Poland once, a one-and-done horrifying spectacle. In any case the metaphor should be used more often to describe horrible spectacles.

Oh, I know that much, but I meant the Mongols have had their fun.

Kinda crazy, the whole Hungary campaign left them a week's ride from France. Had the Hungarians not had a resistance movement, they probably would've attacked France. History would be the littlest bit different with Vikings and Mongolians being a little closer

*really just wants to read about Mongols and Vikings going to war*

Hungary was a non-factor I think. It was laid waste. The Mongols, having annihilated all their enemies with few casualties of their own, were prepared to march all the way to Spain, but divine intervention saved Europe by striking down the Great Khan himself.

I think the Mongols would've routed the Scandinavians. The old Norse gods had long been abandoned, they weren't Vikings anymore, they were Christians now.

They didn't capture all of Hungary though! The more fortified areas were fine! They only slaughtered half the population! Guerrilla warfare won the day for them!

But damn, history books about a total conquest of Europe would be so cool
