Anyone see it yet? Just got back and I have to say I really, really liked it. Still digesting through the actual message of the film but from a purely cinematographic and entertainment level this movie did very well in my book. |

I'm hoping it's more than just a serious version of Men in Black. I'm seeing it soon though |

Essentially, one day a giant space ship just appears over Johannesburg, South Africa and for sometime no one knows what's going on 'cause nothing's coming out of the ship. Aliens are eventually discovered on the ship; they are sickly and malnourished and finally moved to live in a shanty-town on Earth - District 9. The movie takes place 28 years after the ship first appears and follows this one man, Wikus Van De Merwe. I don't think I should say more though. I'm afraid I may give something away. I swear I won't spam this topic more than this, but... Atticus, your username is very amusing to me. For a long time I've been using 'Fatticus' as a humorous insult on people. Every time I see 'Atticus' I think 'Fatticus'. Keep being awesome. |

Oh, no worries about spam. I just felt I had to post me seeing the movie and was curious to know if anyone else had seen it too or was planning to. The more I think about the film, the more I like it. |

A google image search shows the logo of the Atticus Clothing Company to be a dead mockingbird; that must be where they got the name from. |

Heh, just got back from the movie. Yeah, humanity kinda' fails. Surprisingly Mr. Jackson pulled his punches, from what I was seeing, but I bet he had fun making those aliens. |

Transformers and GI Joe were pretty much the same thing anyway. Except GI Joe was more Star Wars meets Watchmen |

As I RL South African I am very proud to see a movie that is filmed here with international recognition, just too bad it is opening here the 28th, so I have a few days to wait. |

I just saw this movie... I did not "get" it at all. The entire alien community seems to be mentally deficient half-wits, save for one alien, who is inexplicably of superior intellect compared to his mentally retarded fellows. It was a very strange movie. I liked the Mad Max setting of the movie, but I wish there would simply be no aliens and just human factions fighting it out, or if there were aliens then they wouldn't all be from the short bus. The mothership floating over District 9 was literally the alien equivalent of the short bus, driven by one non-retarded driver. |

lol @ TC. I saw this movie about a month ago. I was impressed with it, although you make a good point about the short bus deal. Still a good movie, I wasn't thinking about why the aliens were mostly morons, though. |

In general, any alien culture that develops inter-stellar travel has to be moronic, right? |

Apparently even interstellar aliens have a portion of their population afflicted with Down's Syndrome.
