Make a nation on nationstates. Move it to the region where you want the colony. Contact the map maker with your intention to found a colony. Role play your nation founding said colony. Deal with any political backlash in character. Enjoy your new colony. **** Please bear in mind that the only real benefit you get from a colony is the location of said colony. You don't get a larger military or anything like that. |

Well, obviously if you have a coastal nation with a coastal colony, it becomes much easier to move goods around the world. Having a colony gives you a place to station your military so you can be involved in far off conflicts. More land (kinda) means more access to natural resources. Having a colony opens lots of interesting story ideas - like when natives oppose your colony and carrying out deals with your new neighbours. But no, having a colony doesn't really let you do anything that you couldn't do with it. It's just more land. |

Not that what Nag said was wrong, I'd just like to point out that Colonies are considered a privilege and not a right. As Nag said, you can very well be subject to public "in character" backlash from other nations in the area you want to colonize in as they themselves may observe anti-colonization policies. We mapmakers take this backlash into account as well as the way in which you handle it. Though it hasn't happened to my knowledge, do be aware that technically if there is enough of a public outcry and show of force against it, you may be denied to colony. Again, this is very rare and usually the most that has happen is that your colony may be marked as not regionally recognized by some nations. |
