For his essay for the AP US History Exam my friend drew a picture and wrote a short essay about why he hated history. ((This is one of the most disgruntled people I know... for the past 8 years his life has been a continuous rebellion against the life story described in the Kinks' "Well Respected Man."))

I don't just mean the baseline. I mean the floor. When I took the SAT, a score below 200 didn't exist. 200 through 800 was the scale for any individual subject area. Have they changed this perhaps? |

Hmm I suppose he did. He got a 2 on it for the $60 or however much it cost. I think he randomly filled in the multiple choice bubbles, so he must have got at least 20 or 25% correct. |

I don't understand the point of paying to take a test and then purposefully blowing it off. Why waste the money? |

I'm taking the PSAT with school this Saturday. I don't really have a choice, the school doesn't care if I already took the actual SAT a few times already. I guess I'll have updated scores soon. |

The PSAT is used to qualify for National Merit scholarships. Why would you want to get out of taking it? Unless you aren't yet at the point where it actually "counts" yet, in which case, I agree that it should be optional. |

Telosan is a Sophomore; the PSAT is at this point a meaningless test. |

Ah ok. In my school the sophomore PSAT was optional. I got a 224/240 IIRC as a sophomore, and a 237/240 as a junior, when it counted. |

You people are too smart. :| My story is freakishly similar to NH's so far. I went 27 on the ACT and 1220 (I think? 4 numbers was too much... Need to add in the writing too...) on the SAT. Like NH (although admittedly not as genius) I got into the schools I wanted to go to due to my test scores... My lazy side in HS limited to me to like a 2.1 cumulative in high school. What's funny is the consistency of my grades... AP whatever, I'd get a C, basic whatever, I'd get a C... I didn't study, period. And I didn't do homework unless I needed to do it (a.k.a. to pull a C). I'm a master of BS. Lazy. I guess you could even say I have a certain skill in trivia, but only if it's a subject that interests me. High school football teams for instance (ridiculous knowledge here)... I look at my lazy sports career the same way. In the game, I was always a hard worker (being a runner, I made my money on the soccer pitch with hustle)... Yet I never took it to the next level by practicing like it was a game. I just went through the motions... Especially in track and XC. Major regret there. It took me until my Senior year, in fact my last season of high school sports, to really care. Track... Would kill to win... All because I was pissed at my ex-girlfriend who went to a rival school! Well, I was really motivated to do something and I destroyed. Wish I would've tried sooner... I'd be running in college if I had. You see, wanting to win is one thing (I'm naturally competitive)... Wanting to win so bad that you are willing to prepare is quite another... Compares to school. Wanting to get an A on the test when you walk in to take it is one thing, wanting to get an A 5 days before and studying none stop another. Oh well. Anyway, you get the point. It's funny that I want to own my own business... Something that takes so much work. Just need to find something I'm passionate about... Ideally, I'd make insane money on my current venture, and either create a business empire, or retire into coaching football, or soccer, or track! I should add that I'm pulling a 4.0 as of now this quarter...... Only out of necessity though. Parents weren't happy with my Accounting grade, or the 2.5 from the freshman year... Additionally, praise Ritalin! Edited by flumes, Oct 14 2009, 07:24 PM.

I really do have legitimate ADD. That is a big part of my past lack of successes with grades, and my success this quarter on Ritalin... If I didn't have ADD though, I wouldn't take it. Maybe I'd try it around exams, maybe... It honestly probably wouldn't be worth it though. I take it for a 6-10 class at like 6 at night, and I cant go to sleep until 3-4 AM! Plus, I have no appetite... Not just no appetite, but eating after I take it makes me feel sick to my stomach. Honestly, it's worth the side effects to me. I've never realized just how much I didn't pay attention in class before. I actually follow the teachers around the classroom now as they lecture! Without even thinking about it! I don't draw around the paper, and my notes are neater (plus I actually take them). I took a big chance right now by taking one. (9:30 at night)... I have an econ exam tomorrow. Real interested to see when I get to bed... I was one of those late diagnosed cases b/c I am add (cant pay attention) versus adhd (the kids who tend to get in trouble when they are younger because they dont pay attention to the extent that they talk out and such...) I could go for some appetite supressant. I can't seem to get under 190lbs, and I need to get to 160. Still a long way from my start at 270, but I'm stuck. |

You hit plateaus when loosing weight. You can go quickly from 250 to 210, then just get stuck there. Even if you don't eat at all nothing comes off. Then, after what might seem like an eternity, it all kicks back in again, and you start to drop again. Don't give up just because you plateaued. I went down quite well, then leveled at 215 for a year. I just recently started dropping again (the bronchitis and conjunctivitis helped break 215  ) and this morning regestered a 198!! Goal is 178. I do feel good now, especially since 205 was my playing weight in college for baseball. I am past that now and love it. My only real problem is that my ass has disappeared!! |

Nobody would know my laziness by looking at anything. I'm due to graduate next year with a double major, a minor, and certification in Spanish and Aragonese. Course, I was 1 credit over bare minimum to graduate, so its not like I exerted myself or anything. I just tested out of my language requirement, and many of the classes double-count for major and minor. Edited by Union, Oct 16 2009, 11:39 AM.

That sounds very efficient. My majors (History, Mathematics) had no overlap. The only advantage I got was that each satisfied my university's distribution requirements for the other major. I did manage to get out a semester early however, which was nice. |

I was quite close to not graduating on time as I failed several classes, including failing one class twice (I finally passed it on the third try with a "D"). Also during one particular semester I took five classes and got grades of A, B, C, D, and F in them, respectively - that's like a winning poker hand. I only graduated on time because I changed to easier and easier majors every year. I was a science major... I began with a difficult major in engineering and via several switches I ended up with the easiest possible major in the sciences, bachelor of arts in biology.

I was under the impression med school admissions were highly competitive. What kind of MCAT scores did you have to offset your grades? |

Extremely good ones that saved my ass. :) I have one of the lowest undergraduate GPA of my med school class (if not the lowest) and one of the highest MCAT scores, so the karma averages out to somewhere in the middle. |
