I was at the Houston Museum of Natural Science yesterday. Two of the most amazing exhibits I've ever seen were there, though I saw just about everything in the museum.

One was the Terra Cotta exhibit. It is the largest Terra Cotta Army exhibit ever displayed outside of China. The were twenty life size Terra Cotta figures, in addition to around 120 other pieces. It was indeed amazing. There was also this cute Chinese woman with a table there, with a few things on display. She was explaining the history and details and whatnot. Could have talked to her all day.

The other amazing exhibit was the Genghis Khan exhibit. Particularly, I was most impressed by the display of a fully armored Mongol warrior and horse. But all the other stuff was interesting as well. Their arrows were absolutely nasty. The arrowheads were like blades; they would easily maim anyone hit. There was a bow in there that I know I likely could not string. I could go on...

The other big exhibit was one on diamonds and the like. It was impressive, but I was more sickened the excess the rich have gone to over the years. That many diamonds simply isn't necessary.

Overall, it was a good trip, but I was exhausted by the end of the day. Meh...

If you want to see the Terra Cotta, I think they're on display until sometime in October. Keep in mind it's expensive. We probably spent over $300 easy on this trip. Lucky we live near Houston.

As far as U.S. Museums:

Natural History: Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago
Art: Art Institute of Chicago; New York Guggenheim
Egyptology: Oriental Institute, University of Chicago
American History: Smithsonian, Washington, D.C.
Science and Industry: Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago

This is, of course, based on my own personal experiences, though I do understand certain museums concentrate on particular collections and my be superior to any one of these in that particular area, for general overviews, I strongly recommend these.

I prefer historical museums. I went to a ton of smaller ones in London that were amazing, documenting Roman times, to Shakespeare, to the Vikings and a ton more.

a list of museum in italy shall be so long that shall unusefull...
Howver i can suggest you Vatican Museums and Uffizzi(not only for paintings).

If you like archeology you should visit Archeological museum of Sassari, in Sardegna and the Etruscan Museum of Chiusi.

The paletnographic museum of Natural Sciences of Florence is good, but i suppose, not so good french and american ones.

However the Archeological museum of Florence, has a beautifull collection of etruscan material, including the famous Chimaera of Arezzo
Posted Image and a vast collection oe egyptian material.
I suggest you a visit if you come in Italy.

Ha, I've probably been to some of those, but I was too young to remember. I would love to go back and travel Italy.
