Big Victory Brings Confidence Ireland - Though only a one - nil victory, yesterday's match tremendously boosted confidence among the Porcuian players. During the few days intermission between the first and second rounds a lot of questions were brought up pertaining to Porcu's ability to play with a tough team like Eleytheria-Duo. "We came out with solid determination...There were a few close calls but our defense did step up and Buffon [goalkeeper] was brilliant." Cassanius stated afterward during the post-game press conference. "We were focused and I think we're only getting better as this tournament progresses." Porcuian players, generally known for their reserved emotions and professional facade, were cheering and hugging after the game. Attacker Claudius Amatto scored the lone goal of the game in the 66th minute, heading the ball in the lower left hand corner after a brilliant cross by midfielder and team captain Lucca Crisci. |

While there was disappointment among the Kasnyians that they did not get to face off against Alexanderhaven, they were quite pleased to see Alexanderhaven fall. For the Alexandrian Kasnyians, this was a grim defeat, not even able to face against the archrivals. |

Ulgan New Syndicate The national team triumphed over Ulgania’s neighbor to the south today, advancing to the Confederation B finals. The oncomer Telosan has had its own share of victories, and will be a challenge. The Ulganian team is looking onward and there are high hopes to bring the cup to Africa. |

"Siggy" Helmuth Leads Hamburg-Bremen to Conference Finals Thanks God and Soul Glo for Winning Performance Posted Image Siegfried "Siggy" Helmuth headed in the go-ahead score of Hamburg-Bremen's second match up against New Harumf, capping the national team's masterful defensive effort with a little offense of his own. "Siggy" leads all players in the Confederation C bracket in points, having assisted or scored on every H-B goal in the semifinals. Said Siggy following the team's victory, I have only God and Soul Glo to thank. The ball came off of the keeper's hands at just the right angle, and my professionally slick hair allowed me to slide right under the ball and strike it right back into the net. Without Soul Glo, we might still be out there playing. Posted Image Soul Glo, one of the most recognizable Hamburg-Bremen products on the international market, has benefited from both formal and informal sponsorship amongst professional athletes, including "Siggy", who signed a landmark 10 year, $400 million sponsorship deal with the company this past year. It is unknown whether or not he was wearing Soul Glo at the time of the header. Soul Glo: A Hair's Best Friend. |

The New Harumfian Football Commission is demanding an investigation against Hamburg-Bremen and "Siggy" Helmuth regarding the use of an illegal substance on the field to enhance performance. The Commission has filed an official protest as well. |

OOC: Nice addition there Leb. IC: Posted Image *Theme music begins to play, followed by the introductory video clip of the PBC* “Welcome to the PBC’s Football World. I’m Luigi Barra and with me as always is Servius Quinus.” *Music begins to play again for a few seconds, then Mr. Barra appears* "The Confederation Finals are just about to get underway! I'm Luigi Barra and with me as always is Servius Quinus. A lot to look forward to today..." "That's right Luigi; several big games with thrilling endings occurred during the last round, most notable being Yshurak-Ireland and Ulgania-Metz. In the first, we saw a struggling Irish team manage to erase a one - nil lead with a strong second half effort and having scored two goals in less than two minutes the Irish were able to keep their hopes alive. Extra time was chaotic to say the least! Both teams were going all out, not one player wished to leave anything on the field, and the result was a scoreless extra session. From there the excitement only grew as penalty kicks were to decide who would advance against Porcu in the Confederation A final. Yshurak seemed calm and poised in the shootout and walked away the victor because of it." "Ulgania and Metz was almost the same thing, both teams were essentially deadlocked..." "It was an incredible series to watch as there was almost nothing separating the two teams, Luigi. Two tie games sent these teams into extra time and Ulgania prevailed with an excellent counterattack after Metz began to turn up the dial in terms of pressure. Solid team play from the goaltender to the forwards." "Looking ahead to today's matches, we find the pairings for the second round: CONFEDERATION A:
CONFEDERATION B:
CONFEDERATION C:
CONFEDERATION D:
When we return, more commentary and previews for today's first match game in the Confederations Finals. This the PBC’s Football World, stay with us…” |

OOC- That would be disappointing if a non-active state wins against Kasnyia. IC- And it comes down to the wire as the Kasnyian Imperial Team must prove itself in the knockout round.... |

Ulgan New Syndycate With injuries plaguing the team after the previous round against the Metz national team, which proved to be a spectacle in and of itself, the Ulganian national team played their best against Telosanti team. However, their best was not enough as their beleaguered and fatigued legs were only able to score a single goal again the Telosantis, and their rivals were able to advance on to the Confederation Cup semifinals. The Ulganian team’s fans had a sobering night, which was a stark difference from the celebrations in the streets after the previous win against the Kingdom to the south. |

-Kasnyian News Service- The defeat against the Dominion puppet of the Dutch States has stung, but the people of Kasnyia decided to celebrate for being able to make it as far as it did, with most of their able young men on the front lines across the world. It is hoped that in the next match up, Kasnyia will do better. OOC- Seems hollow, considering the Dutch states aren't active or even on the map anymore. Alas... |

OOC: Things will be updated, no problem, for the next tournament (with a little help) IC: Posted Image Posted Image CONFEDERATIONS CUP SET TO BEGIN, EXCITEMENT AHEAD France – Imagine an atmosphere of pure excitement, giddy nervousness, and alcohol and you’ll have something close to what France is like in these days leading up to the Confederations Cup. The individual Confederation Finals and tournaments have drawn some attention away from the usual news-getter of international politics and because there was no shortage of fine plays and brilliant matches there one should expect nothing but more of the same here in France, host of the first Confederations Cup. Yshurak played very well throughout the tough Confederation A Championship, defeating Porcu in the final by a total aggregate score of 2 – 1. Many commentators believe that such a close final for Yshurak will shake away any imperfections they may have had coming into the Cup. Defined by an incredible ability to score timely goals, Yshurak will be a very entertaining team to watch. Telosan, on the other hand, handled each of its previous opponents pretty well. Total aggregate scores of 5 – 1, 5 – 4, and 3 – 1 put Telosan’s offense right near the top of the list for overall goals scored. Those who have seen the Telosanti play know they can score but the question always is: can they defend? The host nation has flown under the radar thus far but their opponent, the Royal Dutch States, cannot afford to look them over. The French goaltender has been spectacular thus far, though too often he has been left to fend for himself. Against such a high-octane offense as the Dutch it will be critical for the French to clamp down as one unit; Look for the forwards and midfielders to lend a helping hand to the defense when the Dutch begin to turn up the pressure. The Dutch possess the highest scoring offense of the four teams competing for the Confederations Cup. Much like the Telosanti, those who have watch their magic on the field know that there will be plenty of opportunities created for them to bury their opponents. Unlike the Telosanti, however, the Dutch have been able to play solid defense when those offensive opportunities do not consistently shine. The matchups for the Confederations Cup, set to begin tomorrow, are:

"The nation has gone wild with the latest results of the Confederations Cup. With the cup being held right here in France, it seems that our home team has been delivering quite a show! "Currently, our boys lead the Royal Dutch states 4-3, and have a very real possibility of winning the whole cup. While our team has flown under the radar for most of the competition, we now stand in a situation where victory is within our grasp." |

Statement from Irulen, ruler of Telosan Asia Despite our nation's fractures, football remains a strong national pass time. Our victory over the beleaguered Ulganian team allowed us to stay fresh for the next round, but the true test against the French will be one that overcomes politics, no matter the outcome. |
