Everybody at some point or another says "I would do anything for..." But that's just it. Most people really don't do anything for that which they want. If one is truly willing to do anything for a certain want or cause, they should be willing make all the sacrifices that will bring them closer to that item. I talk of love. I talk of how I'd do anything for to be with the person I love the most in love. But do I bloody do everything I could? Do I even do anything? As a Christian man, it should only be logical to me that if I follow the Lord, I will be given happiness. So I should bloody go about doing everything right I should be doing if I want what I want, right? So, damn it, enough is enough. I'm done with temptations. I'm done with sloth. I want to do everything I can to get what I want, and if sacrificing the flawed parts of me is what it takes, then damn it, that's what I'm going to do. Anyways, it probably seems weird I'm writing all this to a bunch of people I've never met, but who gives a damn. You're all intelligent people, and the topic of "Sacrifice" is enough to talk about. I personally think the world is in need of an awakening. Crime and death and evil run rampant the world over and yet those with the power to stop it do nothing. Every action causes a more actions, thus one would think if enough people acted in right action, maybe, just maybe, they would make a difference. |

No. As a Christian man, it should ony be logical to follow the Lord because he is The Lord. What you may or may not get from doing it is inconsequencial, and should not, in any way factor into your decision to live a good, spiritual life. Even as Job suffered but would not give up following the Lord, so should you. |

Ah, but in that statement you overlook that happiness is found in following the Lord. I suffer now, and I may suffer all my life, doing the Lord's will. But at the very least, I'll be happy in the end. However, I think it is worth having faith in the merciful, loving Lord that He will bring happiness to me soon enough, one way or another. I would say more, but my thoughts escape me at the moment... |

Go read "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Louis. To paraphrase a little: The job of the Devil is to keep men from serving the Lord. The best way to do that is to keep men miserable. Preferentially by keeping them inactive and stopping them doing things to make their life better. Should a man ever work this fact out, the Devil switches tack to make men think about, talk about, or (best of all) write about doing things differently instead of actually doing things differently. **** Telling strangers on the internet that you're going to make a change is not the same thing as making a change. Go make the changes you want to make, then we'll talk about sacrifice. Because, as Our Father knows, I am one who loves to write about how I'm going to do things differently without actually making the slightest change. |

Well said, Nag. I love the Screwtape Letters. Take my words as a declaration of change. I have indeed made my changes, but the hard part is keeping them. I am at the stage of enduring the miseries and resisting the temptations. Difference this time is I'm doing it in love. Love is capable of making a man many things, foolish at the one end and brave at the other. Love makes me all that much more resilient. I still need to get some work done, but other than that I've set myself pretty straight. Thus, I find myself ever grateful for the bits of happiness I get here and there. |

Good to know. :D Everyone needs to be willing to endure a little hardship to get the things they want. It's how we make ourselves better and happier. |
