OOC: Reference, 200,000 Gungir Rangers (5x strength) 2 million GIs (1x strength) 1.5 million Mechanized Infantry (2x strength) 1 million specops (4x strength) equivalent of 10 million at 1x strength. It's not much considering the overall pot of troops but I felt like putting some solid stats into this. Binga District, 2:15 am The new force, the Gungir as it was codenamed began its march. An offensive that brought the fight to a Dominion stronghold in the town of Binga would be its first test. The shores of Lake Kariba were almost immediately illuminated by the sight of over a thousand flares, fired high into the night sky to explode and illuminate the fields before the force. The Binga stronghold was not by any means an integral part of the Dominion’s attack stance in Ulgania, but its proximity to Desert Command made it a strategic starting point. The incendiaries in the night sky had a multi-pronged purpose – as they were behind the force, the area before them was illuminated, but looking toward the force one would be blinded to the true size. The effect was even greater to night-vision, causing anyone to look toward them to be temporarily blinded. While raids had occurred along Lake Kariba, and had made the Dominion create two general strongholds along its banks they expected this force to be nothing out of the usual. This changed, however when several coordinated volleys from a column of armor leveled the concrete wall, and two barracks directly behind it. Desert Command, 2:23 am General Tibathian had planned this strike personally. It was of a relatively small scale, but he wanted to make sure the true nature of this force was concealed by the overcast night, and the blinding incendiaries. “Sir, the operation has started, and the Gungir has penetrated the Binga Stronghold’s outer defenses,” an aid said. “Perfect. Proceed with the plan then.” At his command, the battle tanks gave way to the missile launching vehicles that probed the coastal side of the stronghold, while 5,000 of the elite Rangers stormed the penetrated barrier. Not expecting an easy fight, they were met with a barrage of scattered gunfire and a good amount of expected resistance. However, demolishing two of the barracks buildings had proved effective, and forcing the people in the stronghold to face the explosions by the lake or the onslaught of Rangers had forced them to make swift decisions. As Dominion command was unable to respond immediately, the confusion in the compound made the retaliation disorganized and unsuccessful. Ultimately the stronghold fell to this portion of the Gungir. A mop-up operation would occur later, but this detachment would soon join with the main force, and link up with the still-stable Mechanized-Infantry divisions, and begin the first push back in over three years of stalemate fighting. With most of Army Group E's strength sapped to prepare for Operation Titan in Europe, the mighty South Ziyer Army had lost half its strength, to be replaced with the twice as large but half as strong 3rd Dominion Reserve Army to make up for it. It was these Reserve forces that were now battling against the Ulganians, who seemed to have gained a new resolve. Time would tell before it was known who would win. |

Taking advantage of the change in Dominon strategy, the Gungir plowed through the everything it encountered. Its primary task was to smash apart the heaviest resistance. While any single operation never lasted more than a day before conventional relief forces would arrive to take their place, the Gungir Rangers were confronting the Dominion’s 3rd Reserve Army as directly as it could. Meanwhile, millions of Ulganians soldiers followed in their wake, cleaning up in areas the Rangers had moved through. Several contingents of soldiers remained amassed at the new Porcuian colony border, preparing to move against any troop movement from within the colony itself. The former alliance between Ulgania and Porcu had been long dropped, but Valentine’s respect for Porcu kept overt operations from occurring in the territory. Until that could change, the advance moved steadily northwest towards South Ziyer, mile by bloody mile.

As the 3rd Reserve Army fought defensively, the 24th Army, using the territory of its vassal state of Metz, started marching north right into the southern Ulgania Proper. Meanwhile, with North Africa finally secured after all these years, with the exception of the disputed Ulgania-Zeelar-Sahndaq sector, the Dominion 3rd Army decided it was time to recapture East Ziyer. |

While it had been unfortunate to see the Kingdom of Metz fall to the Dominion, a defensive network had been established in the south to defend the border. Troops were rushed down to defend the area, and the incursion was met with the expected resistance. Mine fields and anti-tank ditches had been established by this point, and while it slowed the oncoming force, the actual line of defense would be waiting a little further from the border. The wasteland that composed East Ziyer was relatively open, but the bulk of the original defenses that held off the East Ziyer Corp had been built upon since the fighting had ended in that area. Ulganian forces would wait for their arrival. The movement from the north of Africa would not go unnoticed by General Mateljan’s forces, and a rush to move forces from the northern theater had started. OOC: You wanted East Ziyer to return to Imperial Kasniya. Did that ever occur? Or should I assume it was totally demilitarized? |

OKW Headquarters, The Hague Major Ollenview had kept quite busy since the Dominion offensive in Europe and the Porcuian offensive in Scandinavia. As the Duce's personal military adjunct he spent his days running back and forth from OKW headquarters to the Duce's residence, that is if the Duce was not already meeting with his commanders. As the continent of Africa roared back to life, the Abwehr was quick to notice the major offensive being carried out by Ulgania and the information was promptly relayed to all. This afternoon, as the Duce had made a habit of recently, the Duce was meeting with Field Marshals von Regensburg and Florius, as well as with Air Marshal Meijvogel and a handful of other generals, when the news of Africa came to light. After having been relayed the information Major Ollenview waited for Von Regensburg to finish his briefing of the current situation in Çerdoné before stepping in. "Duce, Ulgania has just begun what appears to be a large-scale offensive against Dominion forces in Southern Africa." Von Regensburg's eyes lit up at the mention of Ulgania but quickly dropped his eyes back to the map rolled across the table, refocusing himself. Duce Carlsson stood straight for a moment, took off his glasses and asked his commanders what forces were available in the two Porcuian territories, North-West Afrika (still on the map) and South-East Africa (modern day Tanzania). "A minimal amount sir...Only enough for anti-partisan duty." Field Marshal Florius said. "How many, field marshal?" the Duce replied slowly. "125,000...On the entire continent..." was the reply. Realizing that no serious effort could be made to counter a focused drive into the closest Porcuian holding to Ulgania, South-East Afrika, Duce Carlsson decided to rest his hopes on Ulgan honor. "Inform the Ulgan government and military that Porcu has no intention of any offensive action against Ulgania, which she still considers a honorable nation. Forward this information by very discrete avenues major..." "Absolutely!" Ollenview barked, saluting the Duce before exiting the large room. |

General Tibathian received the message from Porcu, and was thankful for the respite. ---------------- A detachment of Mechanized infantry, totaling 200,000 in all began a new operation. In much of the lawlessness that comprised Africa, the Zeelaris had established a railroad years earlier to extend their economic reach and to, at the time spread anarchy more readily about Africa. The mechanized infantry, with special units from the Engineering Corps were tasked with retaking the railroad, and rebuilding it as much as possible to establish a supply line between Ulgania and the rest of the Federation. While it would take some time, Dominion forces had created several outposts along the rail lines that were proving difficult to completely wash out. Many of the Dominion units fought to the last, or sank into the wilderness to raid the lines and disrupt progress. Despite the cost, the rail line continued to be rebuilt. ---------------- The Gungir had, in the western frontier lands, managed to flush out the main Dominion strongholds and made a mess of the Third Reserve Army’s progress. However, this progress was not without cost. As the Gungir’s job was to move in a very limited range and remain as a large group with minimal detachments, they could not be everywhere at once. The South Ziyer Army, supported by the Third Reserve Army were still able to flank many of the General Infantry, sometimes winning and sometimes being forces to retreat. Still, entire divisions of GI troops were disrupted, and forced to stay behind the Ulganian border. With most of the direct confrontations in the western areas concluded, over a million GIs were sent to shore up the defenses near Metz. ---------------- The border between Ulgania and Metz, while a friendly one for a time, had become a strangled area of mine fields, barbed wire, and destruction. Not wanting to invade the Kingdom and face future reproach, Ulganian defenders held on to the border as tightly as possible. Several raids from the Dominion garrison had managed to punch holes in the defenses, but no successful incursion had been able to go any further than ten or twenty miles. ---------------- In the north, it did not go unseen that Sennar was rerouting forces south, and had moved to retake East Ziyer to push into Ulgania Proper. General Mateljan ordered an assault on an area of Menhad close to where the Menhadians were still able to operate. He had taken a gamble, but was willing to force the forces in Sennar to face Ulgania through Morroco and Menhad. |

(OOC: Hope you dont mind me jumping in. PM me if theres a problem with this) Although under the control of the Dominion, citizens loyal to their King and country began to secretly try to aid the Ulganians. While the King was unable to do anything publicly without facing execution from the Dominion, he knew and ws happy about this civilian revolt against the Dominion. These citizens were men that were a part of the Metz Army that originally fought against the dominion, but due to the new and unorganized nature of the new Metz forces, they had failed in the past. They slowly began to organize themselves and create secret meeting places within attics of houses and basements in bars for example. These men all wanted to free The Kingdom of Metz, however they would first have to contact the Ulganians and make an attempt at rekindleing their war alliance against the Dominion forces. "Hey Ndedi, yu tink you can get across the minefelds?" One man said secretly amongst the leaders of this resistance while in an attic. "Yes. Me tink I can, but I need some time. Who mapped out da known mines of da minefields?" "Udo did, you got da map man?" "Yes, but I dident get the entire border. Dem domes were quick to put down a wall of dem mines an the guys tryin to watch had a had time. All I got is a one mile stretch in the northern border and a one mile stretch along the coastal boarder for sure. The rest my be wrong, but its still pretty close. Take it Ndedi-an goodluck man" Ndedi and Udo shook hands and gave a friendly salute that could barely be seen within the candle lit attic. They went back downstairs, grabbed their poker chips and left the house commenting about what a great game of poker they had played, and how Ndedi had won so much money. With the border being closed due to the war, Ndedi decided he would take the long way around. He went north toward the Desert, and began a five day hike to the north and then to the east. All he had was the map of the mines and food an water to get him through five days. There were many things that could get in the way of this plan, such as the Dominion troops capturing him trying to leave the border. Maybe he would get lost in the desert, or the heat would cause him to die of dehydration. It was a last ditch effort by those still loyal and fighting for the freedom of the Kingdom. These men prayed that it would work. |

OOC: I love how every African so far sounds like a Jamaican IC: ======================== From the volumes of Porcu: A Grand History - "...While the war in Europe ragged on and the Wehrmacht continued its dominance of Scandinavia the situation in Afrika could not be more different. A near pathetic token force of foot soldiers, a handful of armour, air, and sea support, were in the two Porcuian holdings when the world effort against the Dominion began anew in Afrika... Secret communiques were sent back and forth between Ulgania and Porcu settling that direct conflict should be avoided at all costs, the Duce promising no attack from his side despite protests from the Dominion. Efforts to preserve "the peace" between the two nations was heavily tested several times during the length of the Afrikan campaign, nearly leading to an Ulgan invasion of South-East Afrika... Though the dependency of North-West Afrika was used to Porcuian influence and control, having been a protectorate under the Republic of Nixon, the larger territory to the south-east was not and for decades Porcu tried mightily to crush opposition forces and general insurrection. This is not to say that a majority of the populace, or even a large number, deplored the "occupation" of the territory; simply that a determined guerrilla force worked inside and outside to rid "Tanzania", as they call the south-eastern territory, of Porcuian influence. Once, a group of guerrilla fighters managed to ambush a Porcuian patrol and grab their uniforms. Changing quickly they posted themselves at an outpost at the border and harassed Ulgan supply trucks. Being apprehended the next day and confessing to Porcuian intelligence, the information was sent to Ulganian intelligence, who was quite suspicious of the claim. Only when guerrilla fighters were seen in Ulganian territory trying to steal uniforms were the Ulgan commanders convinced of the claims of sabotage made by Porcuian commanders in Afrika..." ======================== Edited by Porcu, Jun 27 2009, 12:56 PM.

“Look, someone’s trying to push across the border,” said second-lieutenant Ishval. His unit’s CO, Captain Asic saw the movement too. “It’s a Metzian. I received some reports of the locals trying to fight the Dominion in the Kingdom.” The two soldiers, ordered with the rest of their unit to patrol an area of the mined border to check for any movement whatsoever approached the edge of the field. “You, over there. Stop where you are!” Asic shouted. “Man’s going to get himself killed. He’s already halfway across!” he said to Ishval. “Stop!” Having helped to lay down most of the minefield himself, Asic hopped through and eventually found his way to the man. “Trying to get yourself killed? Come on, step where I step,” he said as they made their way to the outpost. Inside the makeshift compound of tents and fragile vehicle depots, they got the Metzian inside. “Right, so why are you here?” Asic asked, trying to determine if the man was a Dominion operative, or an insurrectionist. -------------- General Tibathian sat with Chancellor Valentine in his office. “How far have we progressed with the fascists?” Valentine asked. “Honestly, it’s strange. Their alliance with the Dominion has given them cause to erupt into full scale war against the European Coalition, but they are not touching any of our interests on the continent,” the general replied. “An informal ceasefire like this is just as fragile as our informal alliance with the Menhadians in the Pacific a while back. We were forced to pull back just to keep things from coming to blows. We are still friends with these people, even if they are fascists. The pro-Dominion raiders are a thorn but nothing we can’t handle. Communications may need to stay discreet but…” “But they’re better than nothing. I fully understand, sir,” Tibathian said. -------------- Having inundated the Morrocon army in every major confrontation in the north of the country, the law of diminishing returns made General Mateljan consider a near complete pullout. Knowing full well of the dissension in the country, Mateljan felt the pullout would not leave the country to the whims of the Dominion. Instead, he redoubled his focus on Menhad, and in turn Sennar. While his own forces were beaten down to 75% of their former prowess, he left a third to defend the border with Morrocon, and sent the remainder to begin a march into occupied Menhad. -------------- The Gungir Rangers began their first major operations outside of the Ulganian borders. While raids had been done to hit the local strongholds, supplies were still pouring into the area to support the advance. Being supported by millions of support troops, especially a major contingent of Spec Ops soldiers they began their first march out of Ulgania, and towards South Ziyer. It would take time to flush out the existing infrastructure that let supplies trickle to the battleground, but Tibathian was willing to gamble. -------------- The garrison of Mechanized Infantry moving to rebuild the railroad had come under heavy fire from local Dominion forces as they pushed closer to Menhad, but they were able to be maintained through new supply routes from Ulgania as they pushed on. |

(OOC: haha I dont know how to make it more authentic, besides, that doesnt mean that they are incapable of talking "normally") Ndedi ha taveled on foot through the night. After waiting untill the latest hours of the night fo a Dominion guard to fall asleep, he began his trecherous journey across the northern mine fields. It was getting harder and harder for him to force his next step to be forward, when a voice suddenly called out to him. It was an Ulganian. He threw his arms up in the air, hoping he wouldnt be shot. Luckily a mancame running out to help him through the rest of the field. When he got to the other side, he began to explain himself, hoping that the Ulganians would be able to help. "Please...I am not with the Dominion. Let me explain. My name is Ndedi. I am one of the leaders of a small resistance group within the Kingdom." Ndedi replied with a nervous tone in his voice. The men looked at him blankly, awaiting to be told more. "Our people want to get rid of the Dominion, just like you do." he continued, pausing for a secnd to finish his canteen before his voice became any more raspy. "We currently have enough men to retake a city, but we would not be able to hold it due to a lack of supplies and having the entire Dominion army within our country then come to get us. With the Dominion posing a threat to your nation by bordering it due to occupying ours, we are hoping we can help you set up an attack against the Dominion, in order to eliminate that theat to your nation, and free our nation. Its a win-win. With us being behind enemy lines, maybe we can disrupt enemy movements and supply lines, and relay the plans of the Dominion in order to better help your attack. Or...the other option we thought of, was supplying us with black market supplies, guns..ammo..ect. in order to help our cause. once we take one city, the rest of the Kingdom will follow. There is not a single soul within our lands that is happy to be under the control of the Dominion. We may have lost the battle, but none of us are ready to say we lost the war." Ndedi said, while looking at the faces of the Ulganian solders starring at him. No one spoke immediatly, however the man in charge brought his hand to his chin, thinking. In this moment, Ndedi awaited to see if his prayers would be answered, or if he would be seeing the man who was supposed to answer them. |

OOC: Nah, it's fine. I always imagine it would be like Nigerian Pigeon English, but that's a little harder to put into text than Jamaican accents... IC: Captain Asic mulled over Ndedi's words. "Of course I'll have to talk to my superiors about this. The mine fields can be treacherous though. Feel free to stay in Ulgania. My men can give you accommodation for the night, but after that you may be asked to move to a stronghold further north, or if our people feel like you're an asset you might be moved to Serpentine." A whistling sound outside indicated that mortars were being fired. "I hate to cut this short, but we might have trouble," Captain Asic yelled as the first mortars landed nearby. While such bombardments were rarely accurate they still proved troublesome. In this case it showed that the Metz civilian had been followed. "If you are who you say you are, don't count out that you might've been under watch. The Dominion tends to be rather... resourceful." The mortars eventually ceased, but Asic was not taking any risks. He, Ishval, and Ndedi were headed north to the port city of Maputo. "It's going to be a long march, but intel doesn't think there's going to be a risk." OOC: hope I didn't get carried away with your character |

OOC: Its fine, no problems Ndedi heard an explosion and then threw his hands on his head as he kneeled down quickly and looked around. The men he was with told him that he may have been followed, and with that, he knew it would be a long time before he would see his freinds again. He quickly grabbed his bag, with only a days worth of food left, and his canteen, and followed the men as they began to lead him away from the barrage of mortar fire. He began to think to himself about how the guard had fallen asleep, however he had to have been easily seen in the middle of the minefields. He was grateful to have his life and still be breathing at this point. With the whistling of the mortars filling his ears, he quickly came back to attention and was fully alert, following the men to safety. He didnt know exactly where he was going, but it had to be good if they were bringing him to superiors. He hoped that they would have good news for him, but in times like these, one could never expect anything good it seemed. |

Artillery fire rained in from every direction. In their march north, Captain Asic, Lieutenant Ishval and the Metzian had stopped at another outpost to resupply. It was right as they were preparing to leave that a large raid was occurring at the border. “Who’s in charge here?” Asic yelled as the small yard of tents was bombarded. A soldier running by looked Asic over, and grunted, “You are, sir.” The CO of the unit had been taken down by a sniper minutes earlier. Asic, now needing to aid in a fight relayed a few orders to a radio operator and ran to defend a position from oncoming troops. “Ishval! Get the Metzian to the north side of the base, and then get on my ass. Keep him out of the way!” Saluting, Ishval ran as Asic and the other Ulganians began to attack a platoon of Dominion soldiers moving into eyesight. Signaling that they were getting flanked, Asic ordered the Ulganians to pull back to the next position, and had a dispatch sent for reinforcements. The stronghold, only fifty miles from the north had promised air support in minutes, and ground support in the hour. “We’re not gonna last that long as this rate,” Asic yelled. “Fighting retreat. Make sure our asses are covered so we can get out. Tell Command that we’re vacating and that we need to meet up with ground support ASAP,” he ordered. With the thirty Ulganians falling back from over fifty Dominion soldiers, Asic took Ishval and the Metzian to the top of a hill nearby to scope the situation out. “They’re not following. Wait, look, some of them are falling back,” Ishval said. “Some of them. I have a feeling they’re going to start hunting. I think they followed us, and they’re only looking for us. We need to stay ahead of them, but it won’t be easy. See that,” Asic said, pointing out two snipers, and another few soldiers that were headed towards the outpost, “They’re the ones we need to watch out for.” With that, the three of them took off at a fast pace. They needed to get to the coast, but they were still thirty miles away. If they did not stop, they could be there by noon the next day. But, the sun was going down and they were fatigued. |

Ndedi ran as fast as he could but the men he was with were always ahead of him it seemed. He would stop for ten seconds, with his hands on his knees trying to catch his breath, when he would see them waving their arms at him to hurry up. He kept pushing himself to go farther and farther, but the sun finally set and darkness took control. The men were still running, and he lost where they were at. He could still hear them and so he continued to run after their footsteps and noise. He began running full speed, his heart pounding so hard he thought it would jump right out of him. Then he collided with someone. They had stopped to wait for him. Ndedi fell to the ground so tired from the long run that he was unable to talk from being so out of breath. It had been a few hours since the sun had set, but they decided to stay there for the night due to the fatigue of Ndedi. It was a dangerous move with the Dominion soldiers out and about, but it had to happen. |

It had taken a little longer than expected to reach the coast, given the fatigue of Ndedi, but it was forgivable. Arriving in Maputo, Ishval waited with Ndedi as Captain Asic debriefed his superior, a Brigadier General by the name of Comiche agreed to see the Metzian. Being one of the larger cities in Ulgania, untouched by the war it had been flooded with refugees. General Comiche was one of the few ranking officers in the city that had been specifically assigned to Metzian operations, and with the operation still in a tumultuous state of affairs he wanted to make sure Ndedi got exactly what he would need. The General, though ambitious for a promotion saw an opportunity to cultivate a larger resistance movement in Metz. With this in mind, he invited Asic and Ndedi to join him in his office. |

OOC: I hope you dont mind me doing some talking as General Comiche Ndedi and Asic entered the general's office. It was full of papers and note lying around that were clearly on a to-do list of the Generals. Ndedi hoped that since he was already meeting with the general that it ment he was worth the time and effort to immediatly be considered serious. Comiche walked behind his desk and sat down in his leather chair. He then waved a hand towards the two other chairs for Ndedi and Asic to sit down, and so they did. General Comiche began to speak, "As you two can see, I am a very busy man. With that in mind, you must have some importance to be meeting with me in person already. So, I hate to be blunt and brief, but what information, exactly, do you have that is so important Mr. Ndedi is it?" "Yes General Comiche, however you may call me Ndedi if you prefer. But, I am the leader of a resistance group within The Kingdom of Metz. Although we have become a vassel state, our king is still on the throne, even though he lacks the power he used to have. My resistance group however consists of those who are still willing to die for our Kingdom. We are the most experianced soldiers as well, however we lack the supplies and men needed to do any operation that could achieve anything." The General interupted Ndedi,"Wait a minute...your telling me, that within THe Kingdom of Metz, there are still people that are willing to fight?" he finished with a little laughter. "Yes General, there are. We Metzians will never surrender. We have enough men to retake a city however we would not be able to hold it for more than a week, due to a lack of supplies and the inevitable counter attack of The Dominion. I have traveled across your minefields, and through the front lines to come here and ask for some assistance." The General sat back in his chair and let out a small sigh before speaking again. "Well, Ndedi, what your asking for isn't something easy. How am I supposed to believe you? And besides, how do we benefit from helping you? I'm not saying that I cant help you, I just dont see how any of this is worth my time and effort you see..." Ndedi felt a burn inside at the thought of not recieving any help. "General Comiche, I would not have risked my life to tell you this is if were not true. All I need is the promise of assistance if we retake a city behind enemy lines; if its supplies then fine, if its an attack against the remaining Dominion forces within The Kingdom, then may the Kingdom love you forever, but all we need is a little boost and these Dominion soldiers wont know what hit them and our country can rid ourselves of this parasite, as well as remove the threat that sits five miles away from you country behind a minefeild, waiting for the right time to attack you. I beg for your help General, The Kingdom begs for your help. This pest can be removed once and for all..." The General replied after a moment, "I will have to think about this and see what I can do if anything at all. Come back to my office at this time tomorrow and we will talk. Captain Asic can show you where a room is or something so you can stay the night safely." Ndedi felt a rush of relief flow through his body as he stood up and shook hands with General Comiche. He was glad that he had not been told 'no' yet, and he could only stay positive and think that it would have already happened by now and that the General would have good news tomorrow. Ndedi followed Captain Asic out of General Comiche's office and towards his new room for the night. |

Resources in Maputo were, like in the rest of the country, strained. The Brigadier-General knew a mistake in this plan could cost him his career, but this was the sort of gamble that could gain the respect of men as high as Tibathian, who was recently promoted to the rank of General of the Ulganian Proper Army. Brigadier-General Comiche was not happy with the situation though. His Commanding Officer, a Major General with a command of 50,000 soldiers in the south had acted more in line with fascist-era warlords. While garnering respect among his troops, it was becoming less and less likely that Comiche would be promoted to his former superior's position. Holding off on any griping, he decided to draft a plan. "Colonel Altude, please," he said, speaking to an operator. Ndedi and Asic had left moments earlier, and Comiche's mind was hard at work. "Yes Colonel, it's General Comiche. Yes, at ease. Listen, I'm putting an operation together that would make a Metzian offense highly likely. I have intelligence specifically indicating that a dent in the Dominion's armor could be manipulated, and be made into a full chink. Colonel, I need you and your men to be prepared for a preemptive strike. You, and a group of military advisers will be tasked with preparing Metzian insurgents to strike out and flush the Dominion out of their hole." The conversation was brief, but he prepared actual details of a campaign. A Metzian city is to be liberated by internal insurgents. Ulganian assistance will be rendered immediately to the city, in the form of incursion forces striking specific forces that could be used to counter-attack said city with a week. An avenue will be created to allow the city to become a Forward Command, and pending the success of the beginning of the operation I would request a field promotion to the status of Major General. ... Outside, Captain Asic was walking with Ndedi. "General Comiche may seem harsh, but it's only his ego and pride making him posture. He hasn't been happy since his superior was promoted, and wants his own chance to prove himself. No matter what happens, your people will be sure to get aid, but I'm almost willing to bet he's going to be gambling his career on the operation." |

Ndedi had been given a good meal and was laying on his bed late that night. Unable to sleep all he could think about was what Captain Asic told him. He was saying it over and over in his head. Mentally he was now prepared to be the leader of this assault against the Dominion, tying to draft plans in his head of how to do things, and thinking of what his new life would be like after the Dominion fell within the Kingdom. After hours of thinking he finally fell asleep... He awoke the next morning to Captain Asic knocking on his door, and informing him the General Comiche would be seeing him in an hour. He jumped out of bed and began to get his things ready and shower up. A warm shower was nice to have, and it only helped to make him feel even happier. He knew it was going to be good news, but there was still a little ounce of doubt in his mind. He learned to never have high expectations as most of the time they are never met, but something about this had a great feeling fill his soul. He was busy brushing his teeth when Captin Asic opened his door and said, "Its time" with a smal smile on his face. Ndedi stood up and began to walk with Captain Asic to General Comiche's office. |

Captain Asic, second-lieutenant Ishval, and Ndedi were travelling in an APC back towards the border. They were part of a larger convoy, but in the vehicle behind them was General Comiche himself. Things had taken a new turn, one that Comiche had not anticipated. The Gungir Rangers had been recalled from the north, and were to begin heavier operation in Metz. The Gungir, while proving effective earlier on were becoming known for their general disregard for human life. They were intended to win battles on any certain terms. A force that can match the Dominion on their own turf, in their own style, Chancellor Valentine had said when he introduced the force to his generals. What went unsaid however was the fact that any victory involving brinksmanship with the Dominion turned the fruits of victory into ashes in the Ulganian’s mouth. That fact was originally made painfully clear when East Ziyer exploded. Literally. In general Comiche’s APC, he was sitting alongside General Tibathian, and General Mateljan, the two most decorated men Ulgania’s military had to offer. Their stern faces were enough to humble Comiche’s ambition. Their true reason for moving to the front line was unknown to the Brigadier-General, but he was beginning to wonder if it was in order to ensure victory or if it was a sign of commitment in this new campaign. “You are obviously wondering why we’re accompanying you, are you not?” Mateljan asked Comiche. “It crossed my mind, sir,” he replied. “Don’t bother with formalities. We’re all generals here. It doesn’t matter,” Tibathian said, already bored. These men are insane, Comiche thought to himself. “Then I hope it’s not too bold for me to ask what the point of all this is?” Tibathian shrugged the question off, glancing at Mateljan. “He’s the reason I’ve come down to oversee this personally. In the north, we’ve had a multitude of Ndedis. Dozens of Morrocon and Sennari resistance leaders have come forward, and they’ve been less than effective. Your plan might work in the short run, but we want to ramp up the stakes.” “What do you mean? Why was I not briefed on this?” Comiche said, getting a little angry. “Do not misunderstand. We have faith in your ability, but it’s painfully obvious your ambition may cloud your skills. You see, we want to increase your plan’s outreach tenfold. If the kingdom’s populace sees that a city could fall long enough for us to competently secure it from the Dominion, there could be a ripple effect, and more Ndedis to take more cities. The problem right now is that the Gungir is the only force capable of meeting the needs of your operation,” Mateljan said in rather clear terms. Comiche was taken aback. If they let me do things my way, I could have led tens of thousands to their deaths… … In Ndedi’s APC things were light hearted. The three men, plus a few other soldiers from Captain Asic’s unit were all trading stories. A lot of them realized that there was a deep connection between Metz and Ulgania that was inflamed during the Ulganian civil war, but all the same it was there. |
