So I woke up feeling like there was a needle imbedded in my eye

I probably just managed to get some particle or filament under my eyeball, but waking up in such a way is painful as all living hell.

In the past couple hours the pain subsided and I'm seeing double in my right eye... that is to say, it's like watching a 3D movie without the glasses.

Question: I already have an eye appointment in a few days for new glasses. Should I invest in an eye-patch until then or seek medical attention now? Or am I overreacting and my eye will return to normal gradually since the stress is off?

I know asking a forum isn't really conducive but I'm a little meh about setting up an eye appointment when I already have one scheduled.

Can you get the current appointment moved up temporily? That seems like the ideal situation.

They're a bunch of dicks, and I say that in the most pure sense of the word. I'd have to completely reschedule everything if I wanted to change anything with that appointment.

That sucks. They should be expected to be able to move up the appointment in an emergency.

Damn that sounds excruciating. Now that you've mentioned it, due to my hypochondria I've become extremely paranoid about waking up with this sensation in my eye and will fear going to bed.

Sounds like some sort of satanic nerve compression. If you have student health insurance from your university could you go to the ER any time you want? Maybe that will be work if the problem doesn't go away on its own soon.

You might want to try an eye wash first, just to see if that helps. A quick way to do that is to take a clean shot glass, add some warm water (not hot!) and hold it over your eye, open your eye and roll it around. That usually dislodges most stuff.

Otherwise, have someone take a look and see if they can see something in there - it might just be a lash.

What's wrong with your eyes?

Because if you have some inherited or degenerative eye condition you could have a detached retina - which needs to be corrected as soon as possible.

If you are seeing things like a 3D movie when only the bad eye is open, time to go to A&E. In the UK they'd see you as a minor (as in not important, not child) injury and refer you to the hospital eye department. I imagine your insurance will cover it.

But if you've got glasses to correct a minor flaw with your eyes and/or things are only blurry with both eyes open then chances are you can wait for things to go back to normal.

An eye wash isn't a bad idea - just make sure not to wash dirt (or abrasive soaps) into your eye.

Been flushing the eye. It's gotten mildly better.

I already have glasses. Oh balls, some quick research shows me that it could be related to untreated astigmatism. It was treated in my left eye way back in the day. But not my right eye. Not that I'm self-diagnosing, but I'm trying to see the variety of things.

Not to encourage self diagnosis, but if you had an astigmatism in the other eye then it definitely could be your problem here.

Still, if cleaning your eye (and time) has made some improvement then it's probably not.

Solution: Do the Oedipus thing. Not with your mother, of course, but with your eyes! Problem solved.

I'd just give it time seeing as how its a pain in the ass to make a new appointment, but then again it isn't my eye

In all seriousness though, get it looked at ASAP. Better safe than sorry when it comes to the body, imo.

Wow, you've more or less described one of my phobias. Good luck, hope you can get another appointment.

Did I say astigmatism? Meant Strabismus. Crazy how you forget technical terms for strange operations done almost two decades ago.

Anyway, ER'd it, nothing 'acute' found, but the blurriness was decreasing. Still... MUDERDEATHKILL rage. Malicious eye treatment is a bit of a phobia of mine, as well.

and NH, I'd prefer the Gloucester treatment from King Lear hahaha

So were they able to give you a diagnosis or any way of relief? Just curious, but not that you need to share your diagnosis here if you don't want to.

When I went to the ER for vertigo I was given two conflicting potential diagnoses and no method of relief. (the vertigo went away on its own later) Curse all mysterious medical disorders of unknown cause.

Nah. All they said was come back if it happens again. As anti-climactic as that sounds, it's a lot less trouble this way.

Actually that's a lie, and from now on every picture I post will have an eye patch. :phear:

also fun fact. Single vision in left eye, double vision in right eye, plus glasses to make me a 4 eyes, all resulted in having sextuple vision. DEAR GOD.

And I've always wanted a parrot, if only to teach it insults in various languages.
