Posted Image Good evening, and welcome to the channel 6 news at 6. Our top story tonight: The international technology conglomerate Allied Holdings announced today that funding had been approved for a multi-billion dollar research and development facility, located in the Australian outback. The station is slated to consist of several facilities all in close proximity to one another, including a nuclear research lab with a record-breaking 3 mile particle accelerator, lauch facilities for AHI's communications satellites and budding space program, and fully-functional airport for the testing of aircraft as well as the transit of personnel and supplies. Most impressive, though, is the nuclear fusion reactor that will supposedly power the entire complex, and is also the main source of its opposition. Several research organizations have spoken out against the policies of Allied Holdings, and its subsidiary, Global Atomics, which largely restrict research to in-house personnel. The scientists say that facilities like the planned accelerator should be open to the academic community for the advancement of science, rather than used for pure profit. As if that weren't enough, environmental groups have been picketing AHI's headquarters in the Lambda League, concerned primarily with the dangers this largely experimental reactor could pose to the environment, as AHI has thus far kept quiet about its design, including safety measures.
