The best and only great part of this show for me. I just love the Red Army Choir, best military choir ever, have to admit it.

The pink hippie tank definitely did it for me (7:16) ...

That and the woman's incredibly short pants (or was it underwear?) (6:19 - Onwards)

Does anyone else think that the old Soviet anthem counts as the best national anthem of all-time? Every time I hear it, I wish I was Russian.

Dunno about all time but it certainly ranks as one of the best. I just haven't heard enough national anthems to really compare...

I couldn't agree more with you. Although I am French, I feel as you say, Russian when I hear that amazing piece of music.

Quaon, I agree about the Soviet national anthem.

This is my favorite Soviet propaganda video. It is the national anthem set to rousing backdrops of socialist industry and agriculture:

When I watch it and see the beaming, hopeful faces of the New Socialist Man and Woman I nearly feel a tiny trace of nostalgia for the Red Empire! It's only too saddening that so many millions died and suffered for that glorious but utterly hollow void of a dream and all their dreams and hopes were broken.

I really enjoy this group.

Although I'm slightly worried that disgruntled former-Soviet officers are going to show up at my doorstep for pirating it.

I have to say that my three favorite national anthems in no particular order are,

Ay Iran (Pre-revolutionary Iran, maybe the one form the qajars on occasion)

La Marseillaise

And the USSR National Anthem. (Seen above.)

Though I must add, if Rule Britannia was the national Anthem it would be #1. And for this I must never check my mailbox again for Siad will probably send me a letter bomb.

The Soviet National Anthem sends shivers up my spine, and not in a good way.
I prefer the old Tzarist Anthem:

Others I do like:

La Marseillaise
The U.S. (ending in a question mark is kinda cool)
Oh, Canada

And, of course, the E.U. has stolen the best:

I prefer the old Tzarist Anthem:
God Save the Tsar...

A tear nearly comes to my eye every time I listen to it...

No matter what anyone else here thinks, Bozhe Tsarya Khrani will always be the superior force in my heart when compared to the Gimn Sovetskogo Soyuza.

I'm with NH and ED on this one. I prefer the Tsarist anthem.

And I also liked the Iranian one that Draxis posted :D

Menhad, a Chopin fan?? Who knew?

However, the Horowitz version is much better

BGut then, as I said elsewhere, nothing beatsIHorowitz's Star Spangled Banner. I listened to about five people trying to play his transcripts, but no one had the flair and the lightness of the master himself. Listen to ther whole thing, and become amazed when he grow the two extra hands in the last minute.

This one dates form the Qajars. Its also good... but you know... I prefer Ay Iran. Though I find their current one to be a step down form the first two anthems.

I love the Soviet/Russian National Anthem, but that old Tsarist anthem is just beautiful.
