Below is the links in which you can view/save/copy/download these maps; (All files are in PNG format) Kybelis - Full Earth (4730x2234 pix - 312kb) == Kybelis - Europe (1065x688 pix - 38kb) == Kybelis - America's (2083x2170 pix - 134kb) == Kybelis - Asia Minor (915x601 pix - 23kb) == Kybelis - Asia Proper (1792x2234 pix - 116kb) == Kybelis - Africa (1265x1540 pix - 56kb) And of course if any of the above links are ever broken or do not work, you can PM the request to me. To those of you whom have been let in on this project early; Some of you have already said I have gone above and beyond, some of you have said I have finally outdone myself, and some of you have gone as far as calling me crazy. For almost two weeks now, I've been working on a series of large global blank maps, and the first of three is ready. I've decided to give them a name to keep it short and sweet when addressing the project; Kybelis / Cybelis. (Named after Cybele, the Phrygian Earth-Mother) I intended to release an image of a completed Kybelis 1.0 after I tested the YouTube video, but since I was originally going to post all of this on 11 May (we all know what happened to prevent that,) I'll post it all at once. In this case, there are three K/Cybelis projects. Here they are; Kybelis I Complete - A standard, large blank map putting more detail on Oceanic / Island territory, global world coverage, as well as emphasizing simplicity and ease of use. It won't win any beauty contests, but its size, flexibility, and overall coverage of the entire planet make it suitable for a world map, and I am currently working on a segmented version that can be used as regional maps. Albeit hefty ones at that. I deliberately designed this one to be easily modifiable and customizable, for others on the forums to use and tweak to suit their own tastes. And also to make it easily and quickly modifiable should any of these, the World or Regional models, be considered for "officialization" by the Mods and Map Makers. Consider it a "Kybelis Lite." It can be easily edited by any barbarically basic image editor, including MSPaint. Its dimensions are 4730 pixels wide by 2234 pixels tall. Kybelis II In-the-Works - Even larger than Project I, its almost entirely based on a heavily modified version of "Blue Marble" Earth coverage provided by NASA. This will be a much more complex, significantly more detailed map than anything I have ever made before, and is the heart of the Kybelis project. An Earth Mosaic 5400 pixels wide by 2700 pixels tall monster, it is by far the largest map even considered for usage. It'll be the first map I make that will be specifically multi-layered, and was meant to be edited with GIMP - GNU. It will feature a blank version (Similar to Kybelis I) but also a geographical version, which can be overlaid atop of the blank to show both a Nations Borders, Geography, Cities, Roadways, etc. Its basic, highly crude and unrefined format can be seen in the YouTube preview as the "Flags over Land" Scenes. It'll also be the first map I attempt to WebMap in Mercator Format. (Think Google Maps.) Kybelis III Suspended - The grand daddy that Toussaint suggested, flash-based and SVG interactive, it would be solely edited by me and anyone else who has experience working with data, statistics, and editing HTML, Images, the whole line up. Using an embedded format, it would socket into a forum window and navigated almost like a video game. Holding your cursor over a nation would cause it to light up and show basic facts over a crude non-textured map (Similar to K1,) clicking it would enlarge it, showing its Geography, Roads, Cities, as well as its Population, Military strength, Government, and so on. Suffice to say, K3 is a colossal undertaking, and perhaps happily abbreviated. I won't even be touching this without the right tools and a handful of people to assist me. If your interested, throw me a tell. Also, perhaps whimsically I made a YouTube Video to unveil Kybelis. Huesca gave me the idea a long time ago, as did NRE actually... Though I noticed nobody has ever attempted to actually do something like this, so allow me to pop the forums cherry in that regard. Behold and Beware, the first (Incredibly Basic) NSWR-related YouTube Video. Obviously I didn't put too high a priority into making the video itself, so forgive its crudeness. ( Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_9E5Ubm8lM ) Nations displayed in order of appearance: Catholic Europe (0:20) Kasnyian Empire (0:38) Caliphate of Paradise (0:47) Helmetia (1:05) Empire of Assassins (1:37) Eleytheria-Duo (2:44) Russian Empire (3:06) Confederacy of America (3:23) Click to view the full Kybelis I Map - Be forewarned, its huge! Spoiler: click to toggle Now, I had better break this news to Kas before he has a heart attack and bombards me with PM's demanding that I don't overwhelm myself and destroy my RP's... K1 is the only high priority segment out of this entire project, K2 is just something I will do in my spare time or when bored, and K3 is wayyyyy out of my league at the moment, more of an idea than an official confirmation. That said, now that the Dominion RP is kicking into gear again, I intend to get back to those RP's very soon, thank you very much... NRE, you knew this was being made in advance... What do you think, was it as you expected? If you wanna plop all the nations down on it, I can help you, just say the word. If anyone has questions/comments, please do share your thoughts. Critique will help me further refine the maps. Edited by Eleytheria-Duo, Jul 12 2009, 04:37 PM.

Well if crude is that movie then I'm easily amused because I thought it was great  Well I think in our last conversation over this project I told you I generally lean in favor of it so long as they remain simple to edit. I fear their size, even when segmented into the different regions, will make it so they're not as nice and compacted as our current maps and that we'll have to scroll to see everything but personally that's not something that completely turns me off from the project. I believe the project certainly shows promise and if it brings some continuity and uniform to all the maps as well as finally showing everything their is to show, I am certainly looking forward to say an example of a regional map, Europe, America, Asia, whatever. |

Looks very cool. A few observations. 1. What is the song/artist in the video? (not really an observation, but who cares?) 2. I enjoyed that video a lot; I thought it looked great. I noticed that one of the small islands you chose to hilight was Tristan da Cunha. 3. Is this designed for just NS1 or is it meant to have some applicability to NS2 as well? 4. Cool choice of title - I'm always happy to see classical allusions, but isn't she the one whose male worshippers castrated themselves? Slightly inauspicious... |

The title of the song is "On Earth" by the Swiss metal band Samael.
I did that for a few reasons, to show the wide coverage of this map, and to jar TC's brain.
I suppose you could use it for either NS1 or NS2, but seeing as I am not interested in NS2 I won't give any endorsements to its usage for that purpose, nor will I in any way modify the map to suit NS2 accustoms. However, if you wish to use it for that purpose, then you are certainly free to do so.
Later clergy and more "enthusiastic" followers did indeed castrate themselves, though AFAIK that was never an original nor intended way to worship Cybele, as animal sacrifice of such parts was preferred (And was usually done so regardless of the practice of this religion, depending on the animal being sacrificed.) In fact I would say for the most part of history, self castration in the name of Cybele would have been viewed as rather heretical to the faith and were the flagellants of the day, depending on whom you ask. However, if you must allude to the possibility of widely accepted mass *ahem* ... scrotum abrogation ... -cringe- :| then, in the case of the Kybelis Project, think of it along the lines of those who prefer to use this map over other ones available... |

You have MSN, AIM, etc.? We can discuss it in more detail if we're live chatting and you feel like dealing with me. Otherwise, lets take it to the PM's. Not to keep the trade secret, but to keep the short snippets of clutter down. |

Division of America is fully complete. It wasn't a major renovation, but since I am also trying to keep up with my RP's and live my life, it took longer than expected. It should be noted the preview below is just that; The Preview Version. The stock version (In the case of Map modifiers/makers) does not have any labels. Some smaller Islands that would be visible from the European and African segments are also included, these may eventually be omitted for aesthetic reasons. Click to view. Again, its quite large. Spoiler: click to toggle

After a few weeks of internal debate and skull bashing myself as to how to Partition the map, Kybelis I is now fully complete and ready for distribution. Instead of minimizing the space required to view the continents, I merely partitioned them with the epicenter as close to the heart of the continent as possible. Some of you might say I took the easy way out, but I did say I was aiming for simplicity and ease of use, modifying the partitions in any way would cause serious inconsistencies cross-wise. instead you might want to blame Earth for being so disproportionate in the distribution of landmass. The only modification to the subdivisions of Earth were shrinking the images borders (and careful notation not to destroy any landmass in the process.) That said, to re-socket the continents back on top of the World map, it is a simple matter of moving them atop the aforementioned continents, thus overlaying them. For personal use amongst forum members, Kybelis I shall remain identical to its "release" version. All of these maps are perfectly smoothed, and therefore any contiguous land space can be easily modified/filled by any image editor. That said, NRE is the one that will have to struggle with the Kybelis project the most, I will defer to his judgment in making any modifications to suit his needs. This is absolutely fantastic work. I'm looking forward Kybelis II. I particularly love the islands. That's something I was always disappointed by in other maps. I think if the NS2 forum gets back on track, I will definitely make a map using Kybelis I. Though to be honest, I really wish we could have an alternate world set in the 1660s to make full use of the islands. |

I can't say when K/Cybelis II will see use, though K/Cybelis I is already a speckled mish-mash of colors and number codes as NRE and I have already begun the reconstruction of our world. If I had to give any ambiguous date, then I would say sometime by August or September would be a solid guess. |

I have pondered this for a long while, I believe K2 is more than capable of featuring such things, and possibly a less official version of K1, but it would probably be too cluttery for the official ones. Hmmn... Perhaps I should experiment with this, more... |
