Have your friends/loved ones ever questioned your sanity because of NS?

From time to time I'll find something rather amusing, and talk about it with a couple people who might... MIGHT get it. Ultimately though every time someone sees this stuff they start to wonder if I'm all there or not. I got laughed at by a hardcore online D&D player for being a nerd (OH THE IRONY), as well.

Any similar stories?

I told my girlfriend about it this place, what we do here and how long I've been with the it and she called me a nerd  Of course she's a 23 year old who plays neopets so you can imagine I had ammo of my own. I'm thinking we're a good fit :D

I have my sanity questioned just because I watch the news every day and like to involve myself in politics; Plus other projects that are completely "Not normal" by most other American's standards. It tees me off that they would even judge what is "Normal." But anyhow... Yeah, had a lot of people wonder if I am sane because of NS, and because of D&D, amongst another myriad of things...

I think you ALL are insane!

But only on the same level as I am. Insane, power-hungry nerds plotting to overthrow the world. I made my first long-term plan of conquest in 3rd grade. My teachers were afraid of me.

Why would I want to overthrow the world?

I prefer to remain obscure, unknown, and hidden from sight. Less criticism and hassle to deal with. I prefer to utterly destroy a persons image, not constantly be on the defensive for my own.

Heh, should've expected these responses. Yes, general nerdom, and politics have made people question me. Once I started to try to convince people that Marx would've made a better Jesus than Jesus as a joke they stopped trying to understand me XD

Nice quote from Neil Gaiman (I haven't read "Sandman" yet but I will this summer RD  )

"Everybody has a secret world inside of them. All of the people of the world, I mean everybody. No matter how dull and boring they are on the outside, inside them they've all got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds. Not just one world. Hundreds of them. Thousands maybe."

(Note, I'm guessing many of these realms and worlds probably involve some sort of extraordinary sexual or moral perversion  )

Anyways I think we should make that quote the "Official Quote" of NSWR.

By the way, speaking of mental stability, have you ever had vertigo happen to you? Last week I woke up in the middle of the night and my field of vision was violently spinning, which caused intense nausea. I staggered over to the toilet to prepare to vomit. Later I calmed down but I had to keep my head absolutely straight; slight deviations threw my field of vision into violent 180 degree spins that sent the ceiling toppling downwards and the floor up to where the ceiling used to be.

This terrible situation kept up for a few more days and nights but soon went away just as suddenly and conclusively as when it first attacked me. I can only hope this doesn't indicate some more serious underlying disorder.

Anyone else ever experienced an attack of vertigo? It is pretty much the most evil disease conceivable. If epilepsy purportedly allows you to convene with the heavens and reach a higher consciousness, vertigo only traps you in a satanic alternate dimensional plane where the laws of nature are repealed and you're forced to do hand-to-hand combat with satan.

Damn, TC... You probably want to have that looked at... If you haven't already.

As for myself and vertigo, no. But my aunt has a pretty bad case of it now and again. It debilitates her so badly she can't even stand up, yet alone do anything on her own. Luckily, its rather rare.

I figured if I go see a neurologist they'd just give me some nerve sedative which wouldn't address the source of the problem. So I self-medicated by eating a gingerroot. I also did several maneuvers aiming to dislodge debris from the labyrinth organ in the inner ear. Luckily the problem went away on its own, but I'm just hoping this episode isn't the start of some new trend.

TC, that was mildly unexpected. My gram's had vertigo for decades. She's 80 now, and it's scary every time it happens.

As for that quote, I have a different fictional world that I take full advantage of from time to time... I get a lot of my NS location names from it.

Actually, a lot of my posted works are based in that world.

I am very careful who I tell about my time spent here, because I don't want the people who are following me, or the alliens that are surveying me, to know what I do. I have only told my lover, who originally thought I was trying to pick up underaged dudes. Since then, I had him get an account here, and he watched for a time, and got bored. Now he doesn't think I am crazy or a pervert, just dull.

Now, if there was a way to keep those voices from coming out of all your avatars trying to tell me to kill Arlo Guthre, I'd be much better (he's playing here in Ann Arbor Thursday, and I have my tickets . . . . . this might be my chance to silence you all).

No vertigo, but I've had this spout of nausea for going on two days now. Must have been the seafood from Sunday, but I was hoping it would be out my system by today. That or I'd go ahead a vomit instead of feeling like I need to 24/7 :(

This.
And another this. My friends don't really think me insane, but they do acknowledge me as weird. I don't think I'm thought of as a nerd, though.

I've been plotting world conquest since I was four. There is video evidence.

I've tried to explain it using elaborate/inaccurate euphamisms for things, or just speaking in ridiculously general terms about a "political forum"

I thought up a new euphemism for those so inclined. Indicate to people that you self-publish fiction online

I once used a NSWR reference to try and explain a political scenario to a friend... that is, I suddenly created the "World Military Dominion" and the alliances in Europe (with a few modifications) to explain WW1.

It made sense when it sounded like I was suddenly pulling fictional countries out the air... so that might count for something

That must have been hilarious, for you at least since you were the one in the know. I wish I could see something like that. I think I may have to start randomly alluding to fictional countries.

My girlfriend (who also "plays" neopets) knows this place as "NationStates - where Andy goes to shout and people and tell them how wrong they are for two hours every day".

Also, many of my friends and loved ones question my sanity. For many reasons. NationStates, happily, is one of these reasons.

As for my sanity, meh people question it but not everyone knows I come here so can't say this ranks high for the reasons list. :P

Why yes in fact, it is the most amazing film shot ever. IMO

But seriously now, yes, I get it once in a while when I wake up, usually when I'm under heavy stress or just suffering form crushing loneliness etc. Though I suffer mine differently, I'd call it minor vertigo when I get it. Usually I feel very small and twig like, weak etc, and everything else seems to be distorted in its size and distance away from me. Like it would seem like the ceiling is about forty feet farther away... hell it pretty much is like having to live through one of those vertigo shots. I'd say the shot leaves out the sheer terror that it strikes in me whenever I have to live through an hour or so of that. And unlike with TC no matter how I positioned my head its like that for about an hour or so, then it does a slow fade over the course of a few more hours.

But then again I think with things like Vertigo or anything similar, its dependent on the person.

Also, RD, better euphemism, You Self-Publish Collaborative Fiction Online. I think its better because its more descriptive of the forum and community.

And epic lulz that Nag and NRE are dating the same woman (or damn near close to it imo), must hear this story.

Draxis sits down

Story time!
