I'm in Texas. They've closed down two schools who've had outbreaks of swine flu. I can't say I find it at all funny.

Ulgania, I'm not sure I believe you. There's only one suspected case in all of Pennsylvania.

I've actually started hearing reports creeping closer to New England... but still, I feel like all the attention being drawn to it is also going to help expel it.

I'm in Texas too. And I find the latest swine flu hysteria to be hilarious.

I don't find this funny either. But this particular flu doesn't seem as serious as they make it out to be.

Thousands die every year in the United States alone due to different strains of Influenza, and out of the thousands of suspected cases in Mexico, only a few confirmed deaths are attributed to it-- You have to remember that a few people in Mexico LITERALLY die from *zit* infections every year, yet alone flu. There's a chance this'll turn out to be nothing, but you never know...

Well New York has like half of the confirmed cases in the country (including Texas or not, I don't know)

Hey, it's not like I'm leaving the country, (by country, I'm talking about Texas of course.) I'm not even leaving the city really. I'm just moving to a little slice of the country life surrounded by the city all around. An island of anarchy in the sea of various governments, municipal, state, federal, etc.

Well for a guy like myself the concept of moving anywhere with an incomplete outhouse constitutes exile.

Sounds like you've had some very unpleasant encounters with natural alternatives in the absence of toilet paper.

E, what will your outhouse be like? Will you use it to manufacture agricultural fertilizer - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composting_toilet ?

That sounds like socialism to me. And it's taking revenue away from a more proper industry. JOBS COULD BE LOST BECAUSE OF THIS IDEA

If you have a sore throat, and I've seen you post, does that mean I should go to the emergency room?

In all seriousness there was an outbreak of herpes on my campus recently.

We've apparently got cases of swine flu here in Washington now too. Seems to me things could be a bit worse than a pandemic with a 5% mortality rate. Of course it is the flu. Tomorrow it could be anything but for now, at least the world doesn't seem to be ending. I'm finding the general hysteria a bit entertaining, honestly.

Everyone needs to stop freaking out about it.

I first heard about yesterday. Everyone in my school is FREAKING out. No one will shake hands with anyone. No one will be anywhere near you if you sneezed or coughed since the begining on the year. If someone was absent for a day, no one will want to have any contact with you, visual or otherwise.

These are the students of course. And 4 or 5 teachers.

It's not the Black Death! Get over it!

Now my classes start in a few minutes. I need to find someone to cough in the direction of so they'll all leave me alone for the day.

... and get a t-shirt that says, "Just got back from Mexico, and boy, are those pork tacos good!"

Be sure to sneeze when in crowds, and then say to no one in particular, "Well, at least I didn't get sick from the water in Cancun this time."

Put rouge on your forehead and get one of those fake pig noses.

Yeah, milk the daylights out of this!

Also, for the record a lot of people who have contracted it have already recovered and their lives have returned to normal
