Lhasa, Tibet Posted Image It was a crisp morning over the land of Tibet. The 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso stood atop his beautiful Potala Palace overlooking all that his eyes could behold. The Dalai Lama was intelligent man who understood the ways of the world more so than perhaps anyone would have guest. He kept an ear to the outside world and knew a great about current events but as an official policy he kept his sleepy nations tucked away in hopes of preserving its culture and religion. However, as he look far over the horizon the Dalai Lama soon realized that the days of hiding away from the rest of the world was over. Hundreds of men, many on horse back but far more on foot were crossing the horizon. Their spears and lance, erect at their side, glimmered in the Tibetan sunlight. Their banners they flew the Dalai Lama had seen before, perhaps not in this lifetime but a time before. The banners this army flew were none other than the banner of the Ming. The men were quick to enter the city, flushing through the city streets until they were at the foot of the Dalai Lama's palace. The leader of the men was an older gentlemen who came forward on horse back. The Dalai Lama could tell he was the leader the way the other men parted for him to walk to the front. Turning to face the crowd of Tibetans which by now began to gather all around the open square that the foot of Potala Palace, the man pulled from his garments a scroll and after unraveling it he began to speak in a loud and boisterous voice. "Citizens of the Kingdom of Tibet. For long now you have lived alone in this forgotten region. Your people, lands, and very religion stand vulnerable to invasion by foreign forces which has already make enclaves into our Asian lands. It is for this reason that Tibet shall now fall under my jurisdiction so that Tibet may forever be save for the influences and corruption of the outside world. Emperor Shi -His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Shi of the Great Ming Dynasty, Son of Heaven, Lord of Ten Thousand Years, inheritor of the Chinese Throne, protector of Beijing, savior of Asia, so on and so forth." |

The Emperor of the Romans will recognize Cathayan rule in Tibet. We would be interested in conducting a conference in order to establish friendly relations and trade policy between our two realms. |

OOC: I'm going to RP that your dispatch from the Romans came after what I'm about to RP, that's why I've saved my reply til the end. IC: Lhasa, Tibet It had been a week since the Soldiers of the Ming, warriors of the Eastern Empire had entered the sacred capital of Tibet. They now patrolled the streets constantly, watching every inhabitant with great suspicion. The 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso had been placed under house arrest by the soldier whom now confined him to his Potala Palace. If they did not wish for him to see his people, it was perhaps the worst place they could have put him. Though he could not leave the palace, he sat high above the rest of his beautiful city. From its windows he saw everything that went on, including the arrival of the royal court from Beijing. Of course the Dalai Lama expect their arrival, though he did believe it was a bit later than he would have guessed. The carriage was of the finest craftsmanship the Dalai Lama had ever seen, though his vantage point was poor. It was crafted from pure gold which seemed to illuminate in the sunlight. A white orb of light with an assortment of precious gems engraved all over it that looked like stars in a white sky. A show was made of the Emperor's arrival, with many of the troops brought out to greet their master. He was dressed only in the finest of silks and walked only on a lotus flower petal path laid before him by beautiful young maidens who walked backwards in front of him, constantly dipped in a bow. This procession continued up the many flights of stairs until they reached the Palace doors. It was at this point that a guard entered the chamber where the Dalai Lama had been sitting and watching the spectacle below. He was quickly ordered out of the chamber and into the main chamber of the palace, where he was to be brought before the private audience of the Emperor. He sat humble on a single pillow in the middle of the floor of the chamber. After waiting several minutes the doors to the room finally opened and the Emperor, sitting being escorted by the young maidens entered. He motioned for everyone but the maidens to leave and they did so without a single word uttered. Alone now, the Emperor paced around the Dalai Lama several times, his maidens continuing to lay petals at his feet as he walked. Eventually he broke this circular path and moved away from the Dalai Lama to a window overlooking the beautiful capital city. All this time the Emperor said nothing and the Dalai Lama was left to contemplate for himself what all this was for, what master plan had the Emperor begun. Finally the silence was broke by a voice barely above a whisper. Every word was firm, the tone was deep and powerful, yet the volume seemed to mask all this into making the listener bring themselves into a false sense of comfort. "Your city is beautiful, as I expect it to be" said Emperor Yu. "You have on your own efforts done well to heed against the ever swelling tides of expansion that the west continues to make. However, alone you cannot hope to stand against them. Under my direction, under my rule your people will have a chance you alone could never give them. Do not misunderstand me, I do not take without giving and I do not give without receiving. What I shall give your people is a chance to defend themselves against the West, to preserve their way of life from the ever-growing influences of other nations. My price is simple..." The Emperor's voice seemed to fade off as he moved away from the window and walked across the room, now seeming to admire a tapestry on the wall as he continued. "They say you are a man who has lived many lives, seen many things, keeps many secrets. Once a long time ago my people controlled the heart of Asia and brought it a time of unprecedented happiness, wealth, and prosperity. It is my birth right, my fate nay, my destiny to achieve this greatness again. I shall unite the Asian people again under the flags of China and make Beijing the capital of the Eastern world. However, my enemies are strong and the hold many secrets against me." The Emperor began a soft laugh as he continued to speak. "Many of my own nobles do not believe I can achieve such a goal. I know, however that it was done before and can be done again. As a man who has seen lifetimes, I know you saw the ancient rise of my people and therefore hold the secrets I desire. Give them to me, join my inner council of most respect authorities and arm me with the weapons I desire to achieve me goals." Yu said nothing else and walked over to once again stand before the Dalai Lama. He looked the man who sat before him over with a curious, calculative, and precise look. It was the first time since entering the room that the Emperor had actually laid eyes on the Dalai Lama. He looked back though in his mind he was not in the same room, nor the same period of time. "An what if I refuse to aid your majesty in his quest?" said the Dalai Lama, his face without emotion or any glimmer of a notion that he was back in the present mentally. "If you refuse then I must consider you, this city, and the whole of Tibet my enemy." said the Emperor, his voice was regretful yet it was also emotionless to the result it was suggesting. "I will have my armies sweet across this country and blackout the lushnessof the fields with our sheer numbers. Every man and boy shall be slaughtered, their bodies to be left of the pikes. Everyone woman and girl shall be enslaved for the personal pleasures of my soldiers. We shall destroy every temple and village until they are but dust and this country lay bare. Your priests shall also be enslaved to serve me, why? Because I will personally kill you here and now and after your death I shall force your priests to seek out you again. Once found you shall be brought to Beijing where I will torture you until your death and I shall do this with a vow that the Ming shall continue to torture and kill you for the rest of eternity. A everlasting reminder to you and the world the price of refusing the Ming Emperor." The room fell quiet once more as the Emperor stood there, no emotion to the plan he had now revealed to the Dalai Lama. It was now apparent that the Dalai Lama was no longer lost in though but now very much in the here and now. He thought nothing of himself but of the lives of the Tibetans now threatened if he should refuse. This fact alone forced him to accept and as he leaned forward, his placed his hands on the floor in a bow. "I shall serve you for as long as you hold me to your crown" said the Dalai Lama. "You are a wise man indeed" said Yu. "I shall undoubtedly summon you from time to time to come to Beijing but until such times I shall allow you to remain here in Tibet where you shall remain endowed with the powers to rule your people but only as a representative of my will. I shall bestow upon you the ancient title of Great Treasure Prince of Dharma so that all shall know you as a member of my court. Disobedience from your people or you shall not be tolerated and I will not waver when it comes to a swift punishment. Tibet shall be protected from foreign aggression, of this you have my vow. To do so however, shall force me to make this country an outpost of my military might. I will build great fortresses to protect this country and I will require the Tibetan people's cooperation. Of course I have no worry of this as I know you shall serve me without question." The Dalai Lama said nothing, he simply gave a nod of obedience to his new master. The Emperor said nothing else either and instead snapped his fingers at the Dalai Lama. Looking up from the floor he say that the Emperor was instructing him to rise and so he did. The Emperor then clapped and the doors to the chamber were opened. beginning to walk towards the door the lotus path was laid before him, the Dalai Lama followed close behind him. To two emerged from the Palace where the Emperor gave a speech at the new situation in Tibet. Many were confused but loyal to the Dalai Lama they said nothing of their confusion and instead gave great applause of approval. Yu decided they he wished to stay in Lhasa a few days to take in the sights of his new realm. It was only the next morning that word reached him from Beijing on the letter sent from the Roman Empire. The Emperor was intrigued certainly, but also cautious as there was much he wanted to do and certainly could not afford western interference. Still trade from the west was an interesting prospect and if it could be done without sparking western interests at expansion into the east would be most worth wide. Yu decided on dispatching a letter of response before his morning meal. -------------------------------------- The Eastern Empire of China would be interested in discussing such prospects with the Empire of the Romans. Such discussions can be made in Lhasa should the Romans feel so inclined to travel as the Ming Emperor is currently present there. Should they desire another location, arrangements can be made. |
