I'd have to agree with you on Chekov. At least it looks like they made him get a haircut to play the role. I liked Urban in the clip, although it's a bit odd to see him without an exceedingly long blond ponytail. Even as someone who has never watched more than a handful of episodes of Star Trek, I find myself pretty excited to see this movie.

What's wrong with an actual Russian playing Chekov? I think its odd a Korean is playing a Japanese man. Funny that its the guy from Harold and Kumar though. That clip with Bones was great. That actor is good. I'm thinking this will possibly be the best movie of the year. Hopefully we aren't let down. |

What, uh, exactly is the plot for this movie. I mean, I get that there's a lot of hype to remake old things with younger, sexier actors... But the first episode of Star Trek sees Kirk become the Captain with the death of Captain Pike. I've not watched Star Trek in years so there's a chance I might be wrong here, but by rights surely Pike should be the Captain if we're talking younger actors? |

Something about Nero,a Romulan Emperor time traveling to destroy the Federation I believe...or something to that effect Nag As for the actor thing, I don't have a problem with the guy per say, just that I was hoping that they would try to get as close as the originals as possible. The new Chekov looks nothing like the old, and that bothers me. The others, from what I say at least have a small resemblence to the old. Personally I'll watch it without a biased hat, going to see it for the special effects and what not. |

I believe Pike is also in the academy with Kirk and Spock and Bones. I don't know if any of them are captains by the end of the film, but I'll wager, because of some disaster, Pike and Kirk end up at the helm of seperate ships! |

That makes sense. Koreans are racially quite similar to Japanese. The only thing that bothers me about Sulu in the new movie is that the new actor's haircut doesn't authentically resemble the 60's Sulu haircut  Edited by Tristan da Cunha, Apr 11 2009, 12:24 PM.

I saw this in the local multiplex today. All the roles were perfectly cast and Chris Pine playing Capt Kirk did a surprisingly effective interpretation of Kirk's personality and style. Also I thought Shaun of the Dead's Scottish accent was weird and sounded extremely different from James Doohan's version but I might be misremembering. All the characters, men and women, were very, very good looking people, physically. There are beautiful people everywhere; clearly Star Trek is selling out. However, there are several alien races who have extraordinarily ugly countenances. Some of them literally just looked like humans with birth defects - there was an alien woman who was just a human woman with grotesquely misshapen eyes. There was another alien who looked like a human burn victim. These ugly aliens pop up in the frames suddenly, so the effect is gasp-inducing. Overall it was a very enjoyable movie with a pretty fascinating story and nostalgia of course. Edited by Tristan da Cunha, May 8 2009, 05:42 AM.
