Election Runoff Edition

The closest election in the history of the Federation continues today, as polls open for a second time in hopes of anointing a leader. Despite winning the popular vote by a narrow margin, Assemblyman Washington was unable to gain the necessary majority, and as a result enters this runoff against the second place finisher, the incumbent Francis Desormoux.

However, the actions of William Edward B. DuBois (of the German Coast Party) have turned the election in favor of Desormoux, as his formal endorsement of the President immediately gave the Federation's chief executive a serious margin in the popular vote tally. Furthermore, Mr. DuBois has engaged in a oratorical campaign ranging from Corpus Christi to Miami, and a much more serious turnout is expected today.

Said a press representative for Assemblyman Washington "Booker is extremely excited about today's proceedings, and hopes that all of the Federation's fine citizens appreciate the outstanding democratic process of our fair nation. He is cautiously optimistic."

President Desormoux was due to address the Assembly today concerning agricultural technologies of the new century, and could not be reached for comment.

Early returns show Francis Desormoux with an early lead, and Assemblyman Washington was forced to cancel a speaking engagement in New Orleans today, after multiple threats to kill him were issued from anonymous sources.

President Desormoux addressed the Assembly today, detailing the many agricultural advancements made over the past two years. The majority of these technologies fall under the University of New Orleans, which has seen its funding skyrocket under the Desormoux regime. If elected, Desormoux pledged to increase and sustain this funding, as well as spread funds to other research groups in the nation.

Said Desormoux, "The future of this nation depends on the production of sufficient crops, to feed our growing families and send abroad, so that prosperity might flourish here at home. The University of New Orleans has unveiled plans for iron bladed tractors as well as a new scientific mixture to be added to the soil, both of which will greatly increase our crop yields.

It is my hope that, regardless of the election's result, God will continue to smile upon the faces and fields of these American States."

Booker T. Washington's home will be guarded by a troop of federal forces tonight, and he will be escorted by police to the polls and to the National Assembly tomorrow morning, after multiple attempts on his life were threatened today. In the face of growing national outrage over his surprising victories in the north, Assemblyman Washington was forced to cancel multiple speaking engagements, out of fear for his life and safety.

"My friends, it is a sad day when the brute force of ignorance is allowed to dictate the terms of political engagement, but obviously such a day has dawned. I find it irresponsible, for myself and my party, to attempt to pass through these streets of the south so crowded with hatred and intolerance. I must continue this fight, but from a different more distant platform.

In return for my silence, I ask that those men who have threatened to injure me lay down their weapons, so that democracy may return to the lands of the Federation."

Election Results Edition

Francis Desormoux, 54 years of age, remains President of the Federation of American States, but not without controversy. Political analysts suggest that, in securing victory through cooperation with the more radical Coast Party, he has sold his political soul to the devil of extremism for 2 more years in office. His acceptance speech can be seen below.

"My fellow Americans, today is a day which will be revered by our children and grandchildren, a day when we steadied the ship of this fair nation amidst a sea of chaos. My critics have called me spine-less, and a cog in the political machine. I reject the former of these claims, but accept the latter. Because what is any elected official, if not a cog in the greater function of a democracy? If I were more than a cog, ladies and gentlemen, I should have single-handedly defied and destroyed the principles of democratic thought, the principles I was elected to uphold.

Ships steaming for port in Miami were abducted, this is true, but I pledge to regain these ships by any means necessary. There are claims of voter intimidation by various candidates of this latest race, and to that I say justice will be served. I do not claim to be the people's voice, but instead to hear it. The Assembly will guide this nation into the future, and I will continue to do my best to aid in this process, and defend the common American man to the best of my ability. Thank you, and God bless."
