The bedraggled looking pirate was pulled before Governor Rahim. He struggled, cursing and spitting at the soldiers who held him by the arms. "I WANNA SEE MY LAWYER! NONE OF YOU CAN PROVE ANYTHING!" "Visu Nankana. You have been accused of eight counts of piracy, two counts of aggravated assault of Emirate naval personnel, 15 counts of breaking fast during Ramadan, six counts of transvestism..." "THAT NEVER HAPPENED!" The African had stopped trying to wrestle off the guards, but was now pleading... "Three counts of immodesty in the process of transvestism by not covering the head..." "That's a crime?" one of the soldiers said, scratching his head. "...And one count of desertion from the Emirate Navy. For these crimes," the governor went on, "The penalty is death. How do you plead?" "Wait, what about a jury, a judge, any of that stuff?" "Under the authority of the Emir's 352nd Proclomation, regarding Piracy in the Indian Ocean, you have voided your right to a trial." "Not even a stenographer?" Nankana whimpered. "Well... welll... I plead innocent by reason of insanity! YOU'RE OUT OF ORDER, THIS WHOLE COURTS OUT OF ORDER, YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" The Tanzanian pirate had sneakily worked his way out of the grip of his captors and made a dash for the door. He was tackled to the ground with a crash. "You do have one chance to avoid death," Rahim called out over the melee. "WHAT'S THAT?" Nankana hollered, still squirming. "You can sign this Letter of Marque from the Emir, and live your life as a pirate-hunter in the service of Al Qalaa." "A pirate-hunter, huh?" "A pirate-hunter." "In the service of the Emir?" "In the service of the Emir." Nankana made one more futile dash for the door, was tackled again, signed the Letter, and was released. "I know I'll regret this, Governor." "I think we all will, pirate. God help us all." And with that Captain Visu Nankana departed back for Zanzibar harbor. |
