Anyone watching the inauguration? I'm watching it on a big screen in an auditorium in my school. It helps that the Obama worshippers in the student council provided free pizza for us to watch this grand event.

Obama's the second coming of Ronald Reagan, in terms of the mindless adolescent devotion among his admirers, and Reagan's and Obama's shared goal of ushering in a bright new age of unrelenting deficit spending, military spending, and expansion of government bureaucracy.

CLEVELAND ROCKS!
I was actually watching the latest episode of 24 online ocasionally taking out one of my headphones buds to hear the speakers... Timed it just right with the actual swearing in to hear Obama saw "under god" and then put the headphone back in watching Bauer go ghetto on someone.

I personally think coronations are overrated... This one specifically was blown out of proportion. I did actually pause 24 to hear Obama's speach... Did a good job, thankfully wasn't too long...

May God keep him safe, and may his presidency be the best ever.

It is now 12:38 EST. Suddenly I just don't feel as safe as I did 39 minutes ago.

There's no cynical thought or bitterness about the inaugeration at all in this thread, oh no sir....

Anyhoo, watched it, liked the speech, was put off by the bad form of those booing Bush II, was more mesmerized by the little things that no one on the broadcasts was commentating on.

May God Bless Obama, cuz he's gonna need it.

I'll be called a perv but I'll go ahead and say I think Obama's daughters will be rather attractive by the time Obama's done with the white house.

One of the things I noticed that the reporters did not commentate on. Kinda funny how they always focused on the older one, so that the little one (Sasha?) was always just below the camera. Then again, the older one is a dead ringer for her father.

...it's a trap. I had class until 12:20, so I got in right as he was talking about religion. Personally, I feel the need to take action since I was simply cast aside in his speech as a non-believer.

I'd support that any day, no sense keeping good men from running more than once. I think FDR had it right, but meh who honest cares what I have to say B)

That said I enjoyed and am continuing to enjoy the inauguration festivities and despite the endless barrage you cynics and skeptics seem to have over this inauguration and the government system as a whole, I for one plan to enjoy it and remember it for its historical value as well as hope that President Obama does come out of this doing more good that harm.

I have faith in the people, the Federal Republic, and our new president and regardless of whether we're richer or poorer than we are now, 4 to 8 years from now I will still stand behind my vote and my country.

So there :P

I'd support repealing the 22nd amendment, and for the same reason E supports repealing the Constitution... we have various theories about the role of personal responsibility vis a vis the code of laws

I missed most of it, I was at school. I got to see the actual swearing in though.

Had 2 debates today. Number one was with my teacher over watching the Inauguration. My teacher said that just because we had a new president doesn't mean I didn't have to do work. After a 10 minute argument, I got to see the swearing in.

Second debate was in my history class. We gathered in the auditorium to have a few political debates. We had 1 person representing the Democrats, and I represented the Republicans. I had volunteered a few days before and I can tell you it was probably my worst idea yet. We went up on the stage, made our arguments, speeches in favor of our side, and etc. I won't go on from there, but just say that it didn't go well for me. :(

Edit: Yes, I do support the repealing of the amendment.

I was not being sarcastic or whimsical. We need a President to assult the excesses of Congress, and if Pres. Obama does not stand up to Harry Ried and Nancy Pelosi immediately THEY will be running the country and creating policy, not the President. I pray very sincerely that Pres. Obama ca be the strong and decisive president we need right now. I also pray that everyone realizes we have gone 7 1/2 years without being attacked on our own soil by terrorists, due soley to the dilligence and vision of our former president. If nothing else, he deserves high marks for that. I do not feel as safe with Obama, because those that want to do us harm are still out there, wanting to blow us to Kingdom come.

I liked his speech, but once again, it was empty rhetoric without substance. I will cheer his successes from here on, but when he missteps I will cry to the angels and curse his name.

Oh, I believe the people can elect anyone they want, and deserve who they get. If they truly want someone for 16 years, fine with me. As long as it is done four years at a time.

I don't think a President should be in office for more than 8 years. Geo. Washington set a sensible precedent, and the president is supposed to be the Cincinnatus-in-Chief - an amateur, not a professional. But there should not be any amendments against it either. To start, Amendment 22 is a legacy of FDR and just the fact it's associated with Delano is reason enough for its repeal. More importantly America's recent infestation of written laws is against the common law tradition and harmful to morality.

They broadcasted it in my law school. I didn't watch it; I went to class intstead.

I did however see a speaker later who was discussing what may happen with the CIA during the Obama administration.

Haha that contains so much truth. I was in a very similar gathering today. All of this makes me want to watch the classic film "The Wave".

Most foresight when it comes to politics, including that of the rest of you all, is pathetic at best. I will not judge Obama (just as I didn't judge Bush) until AFTER the fact, as hindsight is a much better judge of action. But then, most of you seem more intent on doom-and-gloom scenarios simply because he doesn't support your views rather than actually waiting to see what happens. Even from "fact" or "evidence" of what he says (and that goes for any new president, or even one returning to office) he will do during a campaign is meaningless, as that changes to the circumstances and to negotiation with the government. I have no worry about Obama handling Reid/Pelosi. He will be able to wield the power of the public against them if need be, at least for the first term.

Meh. Perhaps I'll stop posting in this thread. Such overwhelming pessimism has become anathema to me as of late.
