The ship was just entering the Thames river with the early dawn for light. This ship was returning from the world conference on the other end of the world. On it, Emperor Trekon stood at the railing on the bow, watching his empire slowly unfold before him on the banks of the river. While he was admiring his lands, his family came up next to him. As they neared London, it was his wife who noticed a change in the city. "Trekon, there isn't as much factory smoke. This is unusual." "I'm sure it's nothing." The ship docked and the family departed without much fanfare. They made their way to the palace, under the obvious eye of the citizens of London, as if all waiting for something to happen. The royal family made no comment but hastened their step through the streets. Once in the royal palace, they began to relax. The gaurds informed Trekon that he had an audience waiting in the throne room. A few minutes later, Trekon walked into the throne room in the likness of an emperor, wearing the regal garbs and crown. In there, he found a crowd of soldiers, with a few scattered well dressed men. Along the walls were ordinary citizens who had come to hear the emperor speak, as they had nothing else to do on this given day. However, this time there were far more than usual. some sat on the floor as there weren't enough seats. Trekon spoke, "Welcome to my palace, what is it you seek?" A man in the back of the crowd called, "Your crown!" Trekon's gaurds stepped closer to him. "Is this what all of you have come for, or just this unruly man who hide in your midst?" A few nodded their answer, others shouted out their discontent. The soldiers in the room said nothing, but began to move closer to Trekon. "What is this? You wish to be rebels in your home country? You won't get far, I'll be sure of it." Some other man stepped forward, "We are not rebels. This is a small representation of the rest of us. By 'us', I mean all your subjects. It is you who have become rebels." Trekon spotted the man who was speaking, and recognised him as Duke William's son. "You have all committed treason. Gaurds! Arrest them all." The gaurds stepped up to Trekon, and lifted him out of his throne. Against his protests and shouts for loyal gaurds, the soldiers and gaurdsmen carried him to the Tower of London, there they locked him in a cell. Robert, Duke William's son, went in search of Trekon's family. When he found them, they were surrounded by the palace's most loyal gaurdsmen. He told his own men to wait, and spoke to the family. "Emperor Trekon has done his country a great disservice. We are restoring the old traditions and laws that this country strived under. With full compliance, you, your children, and Trekon will be set free, to live out your days far from London. You may consider this generous, given that we could just have you executed. As for your gaurdsmen, no harm shall come to them. Should they wish, they may take thier families with them and follow you to your exile in the countryside." The gaurds tensed, waiting for the Emperess' response. "I suppose this is the better and wiser choice, but I take it without satisfaction." The gaurds stayed close to the family as they calmly walked to the Tower of London to join Trekon. "A wise choice, my lady. You have just made this turnover bloodless." ---------------------------------------- Two weeks later, Duke William returned from the world conference. As expected, all the work was done but his part. He sent the previous royal family on their way to exile, and reorganised the government. The official language was reverted to Old English, which surprisingly many people already knew. The government was turned into what the duke had aimed for very easily, as all his plans and ideas were exactly what the population had wished for for so long. Duke William took the crown, calling himself Cyning, or king in Old English, and renamed the country the Cynerîce of Angelcynn. When all had settled down, he sent letters to all the kings, queens, emperors, emperesses, and other heads of state. Calling for an alliance, as Trekon had. This alliance would be named and created when the countries joined together at a conference to set the terms. |
