Damn it! I was gonna make my patent-patent-pending Brookies today. They're definitely not brownies. They're cookies made with milk.

Cookies always come up better with a dash of milk (like shortbread and unlike biscuits - the distinctions are subtle). But add just a little bit more milk than normal for cookies (and much less than you would for cakes) and you get this delicious gooey, not-quite-a-brownie, not-quite-a-cookie thing.

They rock.

Instead I spent my time peeling potatoes and cutting (yuck, bleh) brussel (ick) sprouts (gross). Mum cooked a good leg of lamb though. Tasty meat. Little sister made very... edible... well quite edible... well... uh... "I'm not dead yet" microwaved sweetcorn... I just opened the tin for her.

Ah I jest, little sis is a good cook. She wasn't feeling 5x5 today.

All in all, it's been a very shiny Christmas so far.

Mum got me: a Star Gate calender for 2009 (rocking), a Peter F. Hamilton novel (eh, he tells a good story but I could do without reading about "combat programs" stored in "memory clusters" accessed by "neural nanonics" to "datavise" a plan), a new jumper, some mints and brightly coloured light up stress ball thing.

Got the best present in the world ever from the woman (no that's not slang NH, I might make a video of me playing with it). And a stocking full of other silly presents. Get my main present tomorrow.

Sis is giving me my present tomorrow - it cost £1. Dad gave me £100 a couple of days ago (needed it for my vandalised car).

Spent Christmas Eve with the woman. Got up early, came home, set up clues around the house to lead my sister to her present - she loved it.

Watched some really crappy TV. Big Christmas party tomorrow. Got to eat until I was full... then had desert.

I LOVE Christmas!

This has been a quiet Christmas so far. Last night, we went to church - an Evangelical Lutheran Church that was very odd: no mention of the Trinity, and during communion there was no confession of sins and no absolution offered, so I was confused. I need to talk to the Minister and find out how they get away calling themselves Lutheran!

We got home and opened gifts. Aside from the 50" Plasma TV (which is great) I got socks, a cool pair of boots and a very big, warm robe. No ball-in-a-cup but I went to Meijers Christmas Eve day and they had all these games on sale, plus an additional 20% off, so I picked up "Battleship", "Mousetrap" and good ole "Monopoly"!

Christmas morning was a big breakfast - pancakes, bacon, eggs, buiscuits and gravy, and now we've just been sitting around the house playing games! "Mousetrap" seems to be the favorite! Tonight, a ham, double-baked potatos, corn and good ole eggnog (with a cheap California brandy, of course!) Saturday, we drive over to the shores of Lake Michigan to do lunch with my brother and his family, who are driving over from Chicago. Should be nice providing we don't have another foot of snow!

Andrew Geoghegan - eat your brocolli! It will let you grow up big and strong.

Oh, rum cookies! We have plenty of rum cookies!

Mousetrap rocks.

And I like broccoli. Prefer it raw, love it roasted, will eat it boiled.

But brussel sprouts are disgusting. Sprouts and mushrooms are the only common vegetables that I don't eat.

Oh you silly boy! Brussel Sprouts are wonderful little cabages - best if you grow and pick them yourself and cook them right away - same damn family as broccoli. You must get the frozen, bitter ones. Buy the whole damn stalk, pick them off, wash off the cabbage worm shit, boil and enjoy!
