Posted Image Porcu's leader in reliable and up-to-the-minute news, both national and international Intense Exchanges Within Senate New Anti-Federalist leadership taking fight to Nixon, Federalists Posted Image Stockholm: Facing his most serious international challenge thus far in the form of a total war against the World Military Dominion Prime Minister Nixon was surprised to find that sitting across from him was a new face. Rather than looking into the face of Kurt Amsel, the Anti-Federalists most ardent critic of Nixon, the Prime Minister now had to prepare himself to face tough questions from a much younger politician. Henri Gauthey, according to the PBC, is the newest leader of the Anti-Federalists due to "a need to begin making the Prime Minister accountable to his decisions". Questions to the Prime Minister is a tradition within the Senate and Swiss-Roman politics and has recently become something of a pastime in the eyes of foreign dignitaries who are invited to the sessions if their visits coincide with the weekly occurrence. In his 21st year as Prime Minister Nixon has become a master of oral debate and frequently overpowers and skillfully out maneuvers challengers from the opposing parties. Recently, the Centrists have remained content with Nixon's policy decisions and so have not questioned the Prime Minister excessively. But for ol' time's sake and in the spirit of the intense rivalry between the Federalists and Anti-Federalists it seems as though even during time's of war both parties seem fixated on the prospect of how best to unseat their hated rivals across the aisle. The heaviest debate raged on between both sides regarding Nixon's proposal to have the Senate create "camps" whereas those citizens deemed to be working in the interests of the Dominion against the Republic could be held for the duration of the war. Henri Gauthey drew a healthy amount of support from the other Senators when he compared himself to those Nixon would deem "against" the Republic. "Is this engagement...This one right here...Enough for me to be sent away and locked up! Those people...Our republic has always been a leader of free speech rights among other liberties and civil rights and I shall not ever hand over the power to decide who one may lock away to one man! You sir, shall never have that pleasure!" Foreign dignitaries are frequently caught off guard by the animation by which the Senators conduct themselves during the session and intense, heated, and animated debate has become the hallmark of the Porcuian political system. The re-organization by the Anti-Federalists though will no doubt bring about new promises to their supporters but for what it's worth it seems that they are finally getting to Nixon as his approval rating dipped below 80% for the first time in eight years. OOC: This and subsequent news is meant to coincide with the passage of 10 years in the stalemate in the Dominion War...I would have created separate threads for the elections but that didn't make much sense to me mainly due to the fact that the results would have been predetermined and voting would have been irrelevant General Election Upcoming! STOCKHOLM- The fog of war looms thick over Europe and no nation has escaped its grasp. Porcu, long the bastion of liberal democracy and progressivism for not only Europe but the entire world, has fought its way into a stalemate within the World Military Dominion alongside her European allies. Times have proven tough and while the economy has taken a little longer transitioning from a peacetime to wartime economy it seems that our brave soldiers are now getting all the funds they need to fight effectively against the greatest threat to freedom and liberty the world has seen yet. As weeks and years have passed since the beginning of the Dominion War in Europe the processes that have sustained Porcu's democratic process for over a thousand years have once again come to the point where law states the people of Porcu must vote to see whom shall be their president. If opinion polls are to be trusted these days then it would appear that current President Richard Nixon should be relatively comfortable with a sizable 34% lead over either of the other party's candidates. During yesterday's session of the Senate the Centrist Party reluctantly put forward their own candidate for the presidency though most party members and supporters overwhelmingly support Nixon and a general primary voting season had not occurred. Defending the party's ability to put forth a candidate without having gained the votes of the populace first was Senator Marcus Crassus, which many may have forgotten was a former Major and also the candidate for the Centrist Party 25 years ago when Nixon first ran for the office he has held ever since. Crassus has usually been a strong supporter of the President, with most differences occurring in the realm of activism on the international stage in terms of promoting democracy abroad. "Should the [Centrist] Party decide that the stakes in this upcoming election be high enough to merit deciding a candidate for the Office of the President among the higher echelons of the party and without the consent of its voting membership then it is fully within their rights to do so. I, myself, reluctantly accept the party's nomination but do see that this current stalemate with the World Military Dominion provides a perfect opportunity to heavily scrutinize our military and our nation's actions." The Anti-Federalists on the other hand did hold a primary contest, albeit a very short one, and Valeria Horatilla a very popular, internationally recognized actress was nominated. When asked why she decided to pursue the nomination for the Anti-Federalists she stated "...I share a common duty with every citizen of Porcu and that is to participate in our wonderful democracy. Other people around the world are not nearly as fortunate and certainly it is our duty as well to help those in need throughout the world but it really starts here at home first." Interestingly enough, though by expert opinion it would seem that Ms. Horatilla heavily lost each of the various debates against her nomination counterparts and should have suffered in the results accordingly, it is remarkable to note that Ms. Horatilla truly connected with the TV audience. The only explanation that comes to mind is that she represents a new and fresh age to Swiss-Roman politics (according to those questioned). Nixon Still Polling Strong With Two Days Left Posted Image SEILAND - The stalemate in the war against the Dominion has provided Nixon the opportunity to extensively travel around Porcu once again, meeting with everyday individuals with whom he can converse and question. Stopping during the halftime intermission of a football match between AC Stockholm and Arnheim Nixon addressed the crowd and told them that the war, despite quieting down in recent years, is still a long ways away from being won and that every person in the arena needed to make concentrated efforts towards the war. Nixon has campaigned much less extensively than his Centrist and Anti-Federalist counterparts whom have driven and flown all around Porcu in an effort to bolster as much support as possible, however if anyone is thinking of unseating Nixon this election they face a steep and difficult road, no doubt shown by the fact that Nixon leads in all polls by at least 21 points. Despite this swath of popular support from most Swiss-Romans Nixon's support among those in the media has steadily decreased, albeit slowly. Among others, this paper has also noticed that most of Nixon's tenure has involved various international disputes and several costly wars. Certainly there is much to be proud of the way our armed forces personnel have demonstrated themselves in the battlefield and beyond. Inadvertent civilian causalities have been shockingly low compared to other the other armed forces during the same conflicts. However, it may just be possible that Nixon is using these wars to solidify his position as Porcu's unquestioned leader. Such arguments have been brought up during the latest sections of Questions to the Prime Minister by the more communist leaning members of the Anti-Federalist party, who interestingly enough have actually proposed creating a socialist/communist party, completely separate from the other three main parties. This has not gained much traction from the main party leaders in any of the parties but it is perfectly within those member's rights to create a new party if they felt compelled to do so though it is still to be seen exactly how much popular support such a party would grab. |

NIXON STORMS TO YET ANOTHER VICTORY FOR PORCU'S TOP JOB Posted Image STOCKHOLM - Another election has come and gone and yet again Nixon finds he is more than welcome to tighten his command over the capital and the Senate. Popular support for the Prime Minster has sky rocketed recently, no doubt in small part due to the fact that Nixon seized on as many opportunities to travel around Porcu and gaze upon the destruction that occasional Dominion long-range artillery has befallen various cities and towns. Vowing to continue the strong war effort against the Dominion and against “yet unseen enemies of the Republic” Nixon’s inauguration ceremony in the Senate was purely traditional and one might say needlessly shortened, for the entire procedure only lasted thirty minutes. However, from that point on it was only business within the Senate as Nixon again proposed for further increases in funding for wartime research as news of recent successes have made their way back from the laboratory and the battlefield. For example, Porcuian scientists have actually been able to transform Tesla technology into an applicable wartime weapon, suitably able to inflict harm upon armoured units and infantry alike. Apart from the lower than expected voter turnout Nixon solidly collected over 74% of the popular vote, while Ms. Horatilla gained 21% of the votes and Senator Crassus the remaining 5%. It was another strong showcase for the Federalists who also gained back some seats in the Senate that they had lost to the Centrists five years earlier. Since Nixon was elected Prime Minister those many years ago the Federalists have only lost a complete majority within the Senate once. Another notable development is the increase in the number of public officials who have decided to consider themselves “Independent”, no party affiliation whatsoever although many hold multiple beliefs of the three main parties. This surge of Independents has critically hurt the Centrist party, whose main platform calls for the combination of the best the Federalists and Anti-Federalists have to offer as well as more efficient progressive policies. For sometime there has been talk amongst senior party officials within the Centrist party about possibly dissolving the party as major sources of funding have been lost to Nixon and the Federalist Party mostly, but also the Anti-Federalists. Centrist Party members have a routine meeting in Stockholm a week from tomorrow and will decide whether the time has come to rethink the way the party is run or whether is would be best to completely dissolve the Party. |

JUSTICE MINISTER RESIGNS Posted Image STOCKHOLM - Another senior member of the current administration has resigned today over word that Prime Minister Nixon has blatantly disregarded the rule of law. Though not willing to dispel more information Minister of Justice Nikolas Kollias simply announced his decision at this morning's meeting of the Senate where Nixon was visibly upset. Minister Kollias is the second Minister of Nixon to resign over such claims of lawlessness, though the Prime Minister is defiant in front of such claims. When questioned further on the matter Minister Kollias stated that the Prime Minister had ordered illegal wire-tapping of citizens indiscriminately and that such actions had been going on for years. "That man has lost his mind..." Kollias was recorded as saying in a low voice as he stormed away from the flood of reporters who had caught him outside the Senate building where he had given his resignation speech. Other members of Nixon's staff have either not commented or have defended the Prime Minister stating that Minister Kollias had simply lost his focus in his job. "It's an overreaction, pure and simple." one of the Prime Minister's spokespersons Ange Petit said. "Minister Kollias was felt to have lost the drive and determination that the Prime Minister feels is necessary to run his position smoothly and efficiently. It was requested that he resign by the administration." Details are horribly lacking and while neither side's story seems to be complete or adequate it has become a personal mission for some journalists to uncover the truth behind Minister Kollias's statements. If what the Minister says is correct, barring no more discoveries of mismanagement by the administration, then Prime Minister Nixon has successfully fooled the entire nation for years. By almost any standard the Porcuian judicial system is one of the world's best with powers rarely held in comparison to other courts. For example, the Swiss-Roman Supreme Court in The Hague is the only judicial court in the world which has actively overruled decisions and actions of its nation's military. As recently as seven years ago all forms of torture, including any type of "physical pressure" or "psychological torture", including loud music, have been expressly banned in all cases. The Swiss-Roman Supreme Court has also ordered the military to free suspected anarchists and terrorists if clear, logical evidence was not in their possession, i.e. the military could not simply detain forever those they felt were a threat to the Republic. These decisions were heavily criticized by Prime Minister Nixon but he naturally had no other alternative than to follow the court's decision. However, now there may be evidence that Nixon secretly sought to bypass the court. As reports continue to come in and more details begin to settle and fit into the larger picture the word on the street is mixed. "I really dunno what to make of all of this. I mean, it'd be horrible if it was true but...I dunno...I've voted for the Prime Minister before and he's really never done anything to make us mad at him so why start now, ya know?" "What do I think about Nixon listening in to our conversations and the like? Well, I...I don't like it one bit! You can ask anyone that knows me and they'll tell you like I am right now that I've always been against this war and any war that Nixon has waged! It's downright criminal what he's doing and I hope that the court is strong enough to take him down 'cause it sure as hell seems like the Senate isn't going to do anything about it!" "I can understand the need for increased security measures, I mean we are at war right now, but I just don't understand why he simply can't ask for permission..." The response by the general public is mixed however it seems that Nixon still holds a majority of the populations support, despite recent testimonies from former staff members that Nixon increasingly looked to expand his executive power beyond that which the Constitution allows him to. The verification of such reports still needs to be confirmed but if true a whole new light would be cast on the Prime Minister, one which would not be as happy and approving. SCANDAL GROWS WITH TESTIMONY OF PRIME MINSTER'S FORMER AID Posted Image THE HAGUE - During yesterday's court hearing where a former top aid to Prime Minister Nixon was questioned by the Supreme Court the extend to which Prime Minister Nixon had dodged the court's former decisions and pursued less than civilized actions was revealed. Naturally pending further questioning and verification of the information divulged during the court's hearing the information will be dealt with in an isolated matter. However, until that information is verified more questions are raised rather than answered. One pressing question revolves around why so many people within the administration seemed to know about the actions taken by Prime Minister Nixon and his senior staff but did not report those actions sooner than now. Leandros Maganas, Nixon's top aid during his second term as Prime Minister, spoke without any hesitation against his former friend and superior during the five and a half hour long session. Questioned extensively by the Judges, Mr. Maganas was asked to shed any details about the Prime Minister's personality as well as give any details he could about the various actions taken by Nixon's administration recently. "I must say that while the Prime Minister certainly has a way with the general public, a certain charisma and charm about him, he is inexplicably insecure and pessimistic about human nature. For example, I had served for the better part of three years as an aid to the Prime Minister from 1995 to 1998 before I learned that most of my actions, even those at my home, were being recorded, both by video and audio. The Prime Minister also has a nature in which he records all of his conversations and listens to them later on and searches for any inconsistencies either within what he said or whomever he talked to said. Because of this, as you can imagine, there are thousands of hours of recorded conversations and many of those hours I would guess would be harmful to the Prime Minister." "Harmful in what sense, Mr. Maganas?" "In the sense that though I cannot actually prove anything I am of strong belief that the Prime Minister has slowly over time become less accountable of his actions and because this he has gotten of the belief that his actions, no matter how wrong, are without consequence. Many of his former staff, like myself, those which were lucky enough to figure out exactly what was going on, were forced not to disclose any information if we wised to avoid any problems later on. We were assured any job in the public or private sector if we wished to continue working or we were told we would be given SR₤250,000. This figure is unconfirmed as far as I'm concerned as I did not take the money, rather wishing to work in the public sector..." Mr. Maganas's testimony no doubt has caused much concern for Nixon and his administration and the full extent of the damage has yet to be seen though it is thought that the end of Nixon's political career may have already begun... NIXON REMAINS DEFIANT, APPROVAL RATING PLUMMETS TO 36% Posted Image STOCKHOLM - In the face of the Supreme Court's indictment of Nixon's recent actions the Prime Minister has publicly denounced those who state that his actions threaten the very Republican ideals he states he is fighting for. Even in the Senate, where Prime Minister Nixon has generally enjoyed overwhelming support, the call for his resignation has gotten louder and more definite these last few days. Former candidate for the position of Prime Minister Marcus Crassus has been one of the strongest leaders of the effort to remove Nixon from office, either through legal action or a popular recall vote. Despite Nixon's efforts to sway the general public back to his favor his approval rating has suffered immensely from the accusations of the Court. Worse still for the Prime Minister is the fact that it is not the accusations themselves that sting the average citizen. It is the lack of openness, accountability, and trust on behalf of the administration. Many people believe that they have been used and deceived and for that reason alone most cannot bring themselves to trust their Prime Minister any more. Posted Image Nixon held a press conference earlier today and was quick to try and deflect any of the blame and negativity. Stating that his intentions have "always been to provide the people with a high level of security and freedom" the Prime Minister did his best to avoid potentially fatal encounters with members of the media. This, however, proved too difficult for the Head of State and after a question was asked by Ross Cates of the New Republican Nixon became visibly upset. "You know it's people like you who have made my life so difficult" the Prime Minister responded coldly. "I...have done everything in my power to try and make this nation better so that our children and grandchildren may grow up in a peaceful world, with abundant opportunity for success. Naturally, there would be some things that I wish I could do over again but my record stands for itself and there is no need for me to cater to you." Posted Image Immediately following the Prime Minister's press conference dozens of protests flared up around the country with many protesters chanting and carrying banners aloft saying: "No amnesty for Nixon," "No more tricks for Dick" and "Throw the bum out." A woman who was generous to stop for a moment and speak with us said that while she pitied Nixon she felt it was necessary that he leave the office. "I do believe him when he says he acted as he felt was best for the nation but sometimes it is unwise to leave so much up to one man...Now, in regard to the Court's request I really think that Nixon should hand over those tapes...Even if they are damaging to him I feel it would do his image good if he followed along and stopped resisting." It is those very tapes that are the key to any possible legal action taken against the Prime Minister and though again defiant at first Nixon quickly turned around and said that as soon as all the tapes were properly gathered they would be delivered to the Court. Apart from conversations with foreign dignitaries, fellow Senators, aids, and ministers there are also thought to be extensive self-conversations or reflections that the Prime Minister would record throughout the day. Coupled with the Prime Minister's memoirs the Court should be able to come to completely understand the Prime Minister from a psychological point of view. As the public anxiously awaits for the Court's final conclusion the noose around Nixon's neck slowly tightens with each passing day... Edited by Porcu, Jan 11 2009, 10:52 PM.

NIXON RESIGNS STOCKHOLM - With unusual emotional outbursts and seemingly genuine regret Prime Minister Richard Nixon announced today that rather than face the possibility of further investigation by the Senate and Supreme Court he will take the route of resignation. At noon tomorrow Vice-Minister Athanasios Eftaxias will effectively take over the office of the Prime Minister and the process of healing for the nation can begin. Nixon made no attempts to paint himself in anything but a realistic light. Taking the opportunity to reflect upon the last few months and everything that has transpired since the beginning of the rumors of Nixon's possibly illegal action the Prime Minister recalled all the joyful and sad experiences of the office he held for so long. Stating that the only thing he regretted was ceasing to fully place his trust in the Porcuian people, Nixon managed only a few words before emotion came over him. Having to pause once at the beginning of his speech Nixon quickly regained himself and continued, making sure to thank all the staff members of Kneuterdijk Palace or Paleis Kneuterdijk in The Hague, the political epicenter of Stockholm as well as housing the Supreme Court, for their long and dedicated service. Several thanks also went out to members of the media, mostly hardened journalists who Nixon had become accustomed to after years in the daily press conferences at Paleis Kneuterdijk. Posted Image Looking back at the years he spent in the grand residential area for the Prime Minister, which was a former palace for the Royal Family, Nixon simply stated that he was sure that history would exonerate him in the future and that people would come to realize that his decisions only added to the level of security. "Many people don't really understand the decisions I made. If you look at the actual actions I took and the orders I gave you will see that...that they are not illegal in any way, shape, or form. Every decision I made during my entire time as Prime Minister I made for the benefit of the people of this wonderful country. We are living in difficult and tough times and though I have come to understand how average Porcuians see the current situation I plead them to witness the effects of the decisions made by the Senate and I over the course of my tenure as Prime Minister." While the official number for the TV viewership is still being determined many feel that Nixon's resignation speech and subsequent press conference could have garnered a record number of viewers, even recording higher numbers than the Seria A football championship three years ago or Nixon's second election victory speech. Considering all of what the Prime Minister stated earlier this morning it is not the fact that his actions may not be illegal, which is still pending based on a decision from the Court, it is the fact that he lost focus and trust within the voting public. This newspaper, for one, has stood by Nixon's side through the thick and the thin. Recall the difficult choice Prime Minister Nixon made in regards to the self-determination of the former protectorates, a choice that many thought was not appropriate at the time but become thankful later on, especially when the Dominion embarked on their world conquest. The former protectorates of Swiss-Roman Polynesia, West-Afrika, and Brasilias are bastions of freedom in their respective areas of the world and continue to be a few of Porcu's largest trade partners. While Richard Nixon chose the best course of action earlier this morning it will be unfortunate if his legacy suddenly becomes one dominated by this single event... MINISTRY OF DEFENSE RELEASES INFORMATION REGARDING VREDE Posted Image STOCKHOLM - In the wake of the continuing stalemate on the European continent between Dominion forces and Coalition forces the Ministry of Defense, headed by Luco Giovanetti who has served as Nixon's Defense Minister for Nixon's entire time as Prime Minister, has released more information regarding the satellite launch that occurred earlier today. Before today's press conference with Minister Luco Giovanetti, according to reports from the Associated Press the satellite launch was meant to do two things: release a small repair robot which will make small repairs to the Vituperation, the space-based missile launch platform, and to release part of a new superweapon. These are just guesses as the leaks of information from the Ministry of Defense could not be confirmed from a third party before the actual satellite launch and press conference today. This being said, Minister Giovanetti's answers were very revealing as to exactly how public funds were being used to win the war against the Dominion. "I would first off like to remind members of the press that Porcu and in fact the whole civilized world is in a bitter fight against the World Military Dominion and that meetings such as this will be rare and kept to a minimum. The only reason this press conference was called was because time-sensitive information was leaking out to you guys and rather than allow you guys to go where ever with this I'd like to make sure the facts are known." "A rocket was in fact launched earlier today from a previously discreet location, which no doubt is now known to the Dominion. While most above-ground launch platforms have been destroyed by the Dominion these were one of our underground launch facilities and I will leave you with that on that particular matter. The rocket contains a droid to repair components of the D-437 and one part of Porcu's new superweapon of which details will not be given...Trust me, this press conference is a gift and should never have happened." More than the information given by the Defense Minister it was his demeanor and attitude towards the journalists gathered in the conference room that was the main topic of conversation afterward. Porcu is a very unique nation in the sense that general openness has been the standard and tradition even during times of war and it comes as no surprise that Minister Giovanetti's reaction was received coldly. Serious questions were avoided by the Minister including specifics about the newest weapon the Swiss-Roman Security Force has developed. The newly launched space weapon looks remarkably like a telecommunications satellite, however, it has a much larger reflector dish which also seems to be made out of a different material. The purpose of this satellite is unknown and from the timely response given by the Ministry of Defense earlier today it appears that its purpose will stay unknown until it is used, if ever... ANOTHER PEACEFUL PROTEST TURNS UGLY Posted Image The Hague - What started out as another peaceful protest against the ongoing stalemate and occasionally hot war against the Dominion and her forces on the continent of Europe turned sour yesterday as someone from the crowd threw two Molotov cocktails at the first group of Senators exiting from the Senate building late yesterday afternoon. Riot police immediately began firing into the crowd with rubber rounds and rushing with batons and shields in hand. Though the first Molotov was wide the second landed directly amongst the Senators, setting fire to three Senators. The Prime Minister was not among those injured though he was part of the first group that exited. Tensions between peace groups and the government have heated up recently with 14 individuals suffering serious injuries and other 2 dieing from police during last week's protest march in the Northern city of Umea which took a turn for the worse when several individuals disregarded police orders pertaining to "proper protest protocol." Among those injured and eventually arrested and detained was former lawyer Willmarr Gärtner, best known for his battle against the water supply giant Baltic International. "This government cannot resort to force as a 'first-option'! The last time the people of Porcu cast their votes, yes Nixon won, but it was for domestic change and reform; not for the continued failed plan to slowly whittle away at the Dominion while innocent Swiss-Romans continue to lose their homes, their investments, and jobs. This...war...could have been avoided but now we've dug ourselves into a hole that grows bigger and deeper by the day. It's time to put a stop to it!" Despite Nixon's personal approval rating of 54%, the Senate's approval rating sits at 21%; interesting considering that the Prime Minister is only the "first among equals" as a Senator himself. During the past four Senate meetings and weekly 'Questions to the Prime Minister' the biggest concern for Nixon is the War against the Dominion, while the Anti-Federalists and Centrists continue to pursue other issues while there still is a stalemate on the European Continent. Despite the increase in the amount of jobs due to the extra workforce for the war effort it has not translated well into economic stimulus for the nation, as key infrastructure still lays in ruins across parts of the country from the devastating artillery bombardments of the Dominion. Homes, regular businesses, as well as government and military buildings have been destroyed, rebuilt, and promptly re-destroyed, so one might land in the same tank as Nixon who says that the only way out of the mess is to fight our way out. Hopefully that does not mean Porcuian lives taken by fellow countrymen on Swiss-Roman soil... |

DEFENSE SPENDING INCREASES BY 4.6% FROM LAST YEAR Posted Image THE HAGUE - The Ministry of Defense just yesterday released a new, detailed account of its expenditures for the new fiscal year and the most stark statement is the relatively high increase in funding for the Swiss-Roman Security Force(SRSF) relative its historical average. Long standing Defense Minister Luco Govannetti stated that an increase in funding can be mainly attributed to the fact that more than 467,000 men and women have volunteered to the SRSF in the last year alone. "With such a substantial increase in the number of individuals now working to defend our country it is only natural that the Security Force receive adequate funding for things from basic training to advanced computer systems management. In such uncertain times it is truly in the best interest of this nation that every citizen is well protected from those that wish us harm..." Minister Govannetti said in a recent interview with the PBC's Antonio Barra. Despite a cease in fighting on the European Continent the tension between Dominion and European Coalition forces has only increased. In response to a televised message by Gassel Prime Minister Nixon has continued to encourage those with an ability to stand up and fight for justice and freedom to do so. Because of the increase in tension many sporting events and leagues are planning on closing, just a few years after they began playing again when many leagues were forced to lock down because of the initial outbreak of war on mainland Europe. With this in mind it is expected that a record number of viewers will tune in to watch the historic final series of the Elitserien, Porcu’s highest ice hockey league, between HC Valdemarsvik and Villard-de-Lans. Villard-de-Lans makes its first Elitserien finals appearance in over 40 years while Valdemarsvik has won the Cup four times in the last ten years. A highly charged football tournament is also expected to draw viewers as well as record crowds as the tournament holds both underdogs and established winners, including the previous Serie A champion AFC Ajax. PRESSURE UPON MAIN PARTIES LEADS TO SPLIT Posted Image THE HAGUE - During one of the most heated sessions of the Senate in recent memory the grand Federalist and Anti-Federalist parties have essentially gone to oblivion with the political landscape now partitioned even further. From the ashes of the Federalist and Anti-Federalist camps have arisen six new parties divided into “Federalist” and “Anti-Federalist” spheres influences, so to speak. The Centrist party, remarkably, has avoided any internal fracturing. With descent mounting among Senators about the internal structuring of the two gigantic factions voices clamored for better representation of the issues of their constituents. Senator Maxine Talbot interrupted Minister Bakker during a presentation of recent international developments to demand that the workers in the manufacturing center of Neues Amsterdam be allowed to form unions and further demanded better pay and working hours for those upon whom the war effort depends on. Minister Bakker continued with his briefing, much to the displeasure of the southern Senator. Then during “Questions to the Prime Minister” Senator Talbot once again stood and repeated her former demands. After receiving a quick hush from Senator Leandros Stratis, the Anti-Federalist party leader, Tablot reacted by stating that she would “no longer be party of the Anti-Federalist machinery” before stating that as of that moment she would found the Communist Party, Rifondazione. Adulation and uproar rose from the other Senators as chaos quickly ensued and did not subside for sometime. As with anything in the Senate, all new parties must be voted on to allow their existence and Talbot got her party with substantial Federalist support, no doubt overjoyed at the prospect of a weaker Anti-Federalist party. Minutes later, Senator Page Leroy stood and brought to a vote the creation of the Partito Nazionale Fascista, a far-right wing party. That too past the Senate this time with Anti-Federalist support. Much of the day was spent on re-organizing Senators and voting on new party measures. By the end of the day’s session the Partito Democratico (PD) and Partito Nazionale Fascista (PNF) had formed from the Federalist party while the Mouvement Liberale (ML), Rifondazione della Partito Comunista (Rifondazione), and Paix et Amour (PA) had emerged from the wreckage of the Anti-Federalist Party. The Centrists managed to stay intact and relatively sane during the entire process. FASCISTS AND CENTRE-RIGHT FORM NEWEST COALITION, COMMUNISTS GAIN WHILE CENTRE-LEFT DROPS Posted Image THE HAGUE - In a result that surprised not only the Prime Minister but also the nation as a whole the young Fascist Party (PNF) gained an incredible 14 seats in Parliament during the midterm Parliamentary elections and pushed their total to 26, putting them in a position to create and lead a coalition of their own. The PNF, which is no more than two years separate from their foundation, have managed to seduce the PD and several Independent MPs and thus have been able to form their first coalition. The new majority coalition in Parliament has promised to support the Prime Minister in his efforts to get the Porcuian economy back on track as well as to push for an overhaul of the nation's infrastructure. "The Prime Minister enjoys our complete confidence and support" Vittorio Matzini said earlier today after the day's session of Parliament. "I look forward to working alongside my coalition members to enact the legislation that this country really needs. It is time to make Porcu great again." The Fascist Party leader has wished to move as quickly as possible to push through favorable legislation, including one bill aimed at providing a national pool of funds for those members of the military who are maimed or made disable through active service. Clear efforts are also being made by PD members, who wish to temporarily lower the income tax rate of all citizens in order to better fight the recession. The PC, Partito Comunista (Communist Party), has been the most vocal against the current ruling coalition of Parliament, raising claims that the PNF wishes to restore the monarchy to its original place and to radically expand the armed forces. While certain PNF members have been overheard mentioning the former the latter is completely unfounded as the PNF was one of the first parties to demand change be made to the Security Force of the Republic's structure, doctrine, and combat equipment. With the Prime Minister's blessing the PNF instituted several major changes within the armed forces, leading to a complete replacement of Porcu's main battle tanks which now utilize a highly sophisticated and reliable composite armor that has allowed the tanks being manufactured to be lighter and faster than comparable foreign models while also providing a great deal of protection. While information is slow to get through the nets of the SFR there has been much praise from commanders about the changes made to equipment. Many believe that recent successes against Dominion forces can be mainly attributed to the SFR's newest armour, though comparatively light the M61/105, for example, has enough firepower to evenly do battle with many other tanks. NEW REPORT SHOWS GROWING NUMBER OF ATHEISTS, AGNOSTICS Posted Image Lillehammer - In a small coastal town of Northern Porcu a small but influential group of Catholic bishops gathered for their yearly meeting, a meeting which, in the past, has yielded such decisions as one to further Porcu from Genesis City. This group of 87 bishops, formally organized as the Porcuian Conference of Catholic Bishops, usually gathers for two days discussing various topics ranging from current theological arguments to the role of Christianity in society. This year, however, the small group's usually enjoyable and comfortable retreat has turned into an anxious and troubling ordeal. Three days prior to the Conference's annual meeting a report was published from the University of Valdemarsvik, one of the oldest and most respected public institutions in the world, by Nicklaus Voterstar, a graduate student of sociology. In the report, Mr. Voterstar gathered data from the last 34 years dealing with a question of Porcuians' personal religious preference and curiously wondered why and what effect, if any, such a decline would pose to the structure and general operation of society. Despite its innocence, for dozens of other reports discussing the same subject, more or less, have been written in the past few years, this particular report has received quite a bit of media attention - and the attention of the bishops as well. Mr. Voterstar notices a consistent decline in "traditional religious convictions", those individuals professing a Colognian or Genesian Catholic faith, from the year that the newspaper The Republic began asking the question annually almost 34 years ago. What seems to have cast this particular research paper into the light is its impeccable timing. Since Catholic Europe openly aligned itself with the forces of the World Military Dominion during the horrible world war there has been quite a drop of individuals maintaining their religious ties to the Mediterranean nation. From 35% profession rate of Genesian Catholicism just three years ago the percentage has plummeted to 14%. A similar trend is noticeable for the Colognian Catholic faith. And while Protestantism, a formerly and entirely foreign religion, managed to momentarily establish itself on our Scandinavian shores after Nixon's meeting with Ted Littleton of the Confederate States of America it too has not been able to escape the general trend, despite its ministers' and followers' most aggressive conversion efforts. Under this new report, and with considerable news time, the Porcuian Conference of Catholic Bishops made sure to assert itself. Though the bishops did send out a response "showing a new spirit and connection with the living Christ and between all his children" it still must be seen exactly what the bishops decided to implement inside their churches. Such a stir within the religious community quickly received the attention of the Partito Comunista and Partito Nazionale Fascista. In Parliament the two party leaders formed a most unholy alliance in attacking organized religion and attempting to raise Mr. Voterstar to the level of a national hero. "The Beast has finally revealed himself!" PNF leader Benito Mussolini said. "There can no longer be any doubt as to the horrible influence the Genesian Church has had on Porcu over the centuries but one must only look to the rotten corpse of the Dominion to find the smelly rages of Catholic Europe and her Church..." PC leader Maxine Talbot wrapped up her speech in Parliament thus, "...It should go without saying that there is a reason that Porcuians are turning their backs to the horrid influence of organized religion. Though it was not something Comrade Voterstar mentioned in his report I can say from discussions I, myself, have had with fellow party members as well as with citizens of the proletarian class that freedom is what one receives from purging themselves of religion. Freedom! The despicable actions of Catholic Europe in siding with the very forces who sought to destroy our own freedom, our own liberty, indeed, our own way of life only highlights this last point. I congratulate and am willing to receive at anytime Comrade Voterstar for his fine efforts at enlightening us all." The Prime Minister had no comments over the issue though he himself has previously expressed that he is a follower of the Colognian Church. And while Prime Minister Nixon is the true head of state and government it seems that abroad more attention has been given to the current leader of the ruling coalition in Parliament, the Right Honorable Benito Mussolini. MUSSOLINI SACKED BY MILITARY TRIBUNAL, PARLIAMENT ELECTS NEW INTERIM PRIME MINISTER Posted Image THE HAGUE – Though still recovering from the events that transpired over the last couple of days the people of Stockholm, particularly those who were affected by the commotion in The Hague, and indeed the whole of Porcu now have learned the true nature of Duce Benito Mussolini. The reasons for the sacking of the first Duce of Porcu are expressed rather succinctly in a written statement given to Parliament by the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW), the High Command of the Armed Forces. In the statement, Chief of the Army Field Marshal Hans Kesselring explains that the High Command had been receiving for weeks accounts of Mussolini’s inability to lead. “…These accounts were duly received mainly from the army, but also from the navy and airforce. After a closed door meeting of the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Airforce where those reports and accounts were carefully overviewed it was decided unanimously that Mr. Benito Mussolini was unfit to continue his role as Interim Prime Minister, carrying the responsibility of working with OKW with a clear and sound mind…” No members of the press were allowed inside during the course of the rather short tribunal and were only notified of the decision of OKW when Parliament officially voted out Mussolini and replaced him with the dogmatic Henning Carlsson. It still has yet to be seen what sort of relationship the new Duce of Porcu and the commanders of the military share… |

DECLARATION FROM OBERKOMMANDO DER WEHRMACHT ALLOWS FOR RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF POLITICAL PARTIES Posted Image Stockholm - After weeks of peaceful protest and rising discontent, word has spread that military leaders will allow the reformation of political parties within Porcu, with a scheduled national election in a few months time. Thousands of people poured into the streets in The Hague and Stockholm to celebrate the landmark event. The Porcuian Wehrmacht, lead by Field Marshal Walter von Regensburg, Admiral Nicolaas Koenraad, and Air Marshal Harold Meijvogel, has lead Porcu for a full seven years after the fall of the Dominion, focusing its efforts to reconstruction and trade. "I am overjoyed to hear today's statement.", said Felix Maes, recognized leader of the "unofficial" re-established Labour Party. "Porcu has taken an enormous step forward in righting its history...Soon Porcuians will no longer have to cower at the mention of their past but may hold their head up high at the thought of a new beginning." For months, meetings have occurred in cities around Porcu with a clear intention of establishing a new republic by ordinary citizens, many of them young. While the Labour Party will represent the Left, a solid party of the Right has still not been formed or clearly idealized. Early indications seem to say that the former Partito Democratico is to be resurrected and carry the banner but many rumors exist disputing this claim. However, what is known is that the sole child of Richard Nixon, the six time Prime Minister of Porcu, has chosen to lead whatever party is created for the Right. A spitting image of his father, Richard M. Nixon (the Younger) has already gained much support from nearly daily discussions he has with citizens across Porcu. Edited by Porcu, Aug 14 2009, 07:56 PM.

OOC: Many of us use real life people and politicians as leaders. Porcu borrowed Nixon. Another example would be The CNNP using Barrack Obama as president of Morrocon, despite him being an African country. |

PARTY CONGRESSES CONCLUDED, NATIONAL ELECTIONS SCHEDULED FIVE WEEKS FROM TOMORROW Posted Image Posted Image Stockholm - At the end of today's open and public congresses lay the beginnings of the Second Republic. Public discourse regarding the re-establishment of political parties in Porcu has been going on for months but official recognition of such activity by the military government has only come in recent days. As expected, Felix Maes has been elected to lead the newly formed Labour Party, the large bloc of the Left, and Richard M. Nixon (the Younger) has been elected to lead the newly formed National Assembly, the large bloc of the Right. Though national elections are scheduled in a few weeks time, Porcu is already abuzz with political fervor. Thousands of pieces of political merchandise have already been printed and sold, mostly because the party names, leaders, and logos were already a given fact going into the party congresses. Porcu has had a strong third party for much of its republican history and though no official third party has yet been establish it is likely that the Centrist Party will reemerge sometime in the near future. Early predictions suggest that even if the Centrist Party is reorganized and re-established it will have little impact in the coming election. |

NIXON THE YOUNGER VICTORIOUS, LABOUR HOLDS NARROW MAJORITY IN SENATE Posted Image Posted Image Stockholm - At least in regards to the race for the office of Prime Minister, the final result was never in doubt. Richard M. Nixon, Nixon the Younger, stormed to an easy election victory yesterday evening, comfortably watching the vote tally throughout the night; Nixon was declared the winner a mere three hours after the first votes were tallied. This expression of the democratic spirit is especially meaningful to the members of Porcu's youngest generation who have grown up completely under the rule of the Fascists and military junta, though feelings towards the later are much, much better. Yearning for a chance to live like their grandparents and great-grandparents, Porcu's youth are clearly determined to take the opportunities to exert their freedoms and liberties. Though Nixon the Younger ran as a member of the National Assembly the make up of the Senate leans Left, 54 out of 100 seats are held by the Labour Party. This "defeat" may not impact the new Prime Minister's term or agenda, which is small to begin with, as both parties are eager and motivated to provide true and continue progress for the nation. Much like his father, Nixon the Younger seems to have a zeal and mind for international politics and diplomacy. In an interview Nixon gave the morning following his election victory the Prime Minister made it very clear exactly what he envisioned the future in international diplomacy to hold for Porcu: "...In this post-Dominion world we are beginning to see a natural division into different camps. One camp houses the Roman-Byzantine Empire and the other the French Republic. While to some nations this division may be problematic to Porcu this is not the case. It is certainly true that we now have more in common with the French than we do with the Romans but relations between Porcu and Alexandria, or rather Constantinople, have generally been cordial and receptive, at least from our perspective. I am not one who will automatically discard another nation, not matter how powerful or weak, simply because of its relationship to these two camps..." Throughout the interview Nixon spoke at length about other nations the Republic would also seek closer ties with. Ulgania and the Confederate States were mentioned repeatedly and the Prime Minister stated in several instances that "all nations are friends of the Republic" because "we've hit the reset button". One of the first orders of business for the Senate, however, will be the drafting of a new constitution while Nixon flies to Paris. |
